buckonz
Due to some renovations, I placed all of my "toys" into storage at someone else's house for safe keeping. It included an AR and shogun in one rifle case and 6 pistols in another. I have since taken possession again yesterday and was putting them away and I noticed quite a bit if rust on my near new STI DVC Limited! All of the other pistols were absolutely fine - except for the DVC. Rust was found: - on the rear sight - on the rear slide serrations - in the DVC Limited engraving Sent from my HTC One M9 using Tapatalk
PatJones
Rub it out with a little bit of 0000 steel wool and some gun oil. There will likely still be a small stain, but you will get the active rust off.
Foxj66
Call STI may be a warranty issue on the finish
PatJones
Shouldn't be a warrenty issue. The stainless used in firearms is rust resistant, but it can rust. It has a low enough chrome content that magnets do stick. Remove the active rust and apply oil before storage.

hjweiss
My DVC Limited remains pristine....so far. My understanding is that the the DVC models are carbon steel with a hard chrome finish....not stainless steel. Correct me if I'm wrong.
buckonz
Correct - should be a hard chrome finish. Sent from my HTC One M9 using Tapatalk
Foxj66
It is hard chrome and i believe STI covers the finish for a bit if its defective not wear
jon49erfan
I dont think rust inside the engraving would be considered wear.
Nightops
Are you sure it is rust and not just dirt/fowling/oil/schmutz that can be wiped or brushed away? I could see the rear sight getting some surface rust, but on the slide it seems odd.
scooterj
The oils in some people's sweat is very acidic and will cause hard chrome to rust. Have a friend that hasn't found a finish that he can't rust.

Have them try NP3. Had to get my 2011 mags done in NP3 to prevent rusting. My skin oils are so acidic that I tarnish tungsten carbine.
CHARLES D
Just got my 2011 back from Robar for NP3 finish. Gun was hard chromed and began to rust. Sent it back to have re-hard chromed. The rust came back. I do live close to the beach. Hoping them NP3 solves the problem.

Eliboudreaux
yes they can get catch rust specially if the hardchromed area has dings, most common on a salty environment, like you live near or close to the ocean, salty air.
buckonz
Update - issue has been registered with STI via the local agent. Sending my DVC to the agent so he can see for himself. Sent from my HTC One M9 using Tapatalk
