ToneSurfer
So I came across another set of headstamps which are now brass plated steel - "Freedom Munitions", and "FM" are now 'on the list', along with Sellier and Bellot. Seems like Freedom came out with a new ammo line in December, American Steel or something. Didn't discover it until today, after I wet tumbled some range pickups. All the Freedom stuff came out splotchy and dark bronze, almost brown. Seems the pins are able to rub the plating right off it. I stuck em to a magnet, yup, steel cased. So now along with the .380 and .40 driving me mad, I've got this to sort through now.
RickT
Just buy a decent-size magnet, spread the cases out a bit and run the magnet over the cases.
GrumpyOne
Not all S&B are steel cased.
Sarge
Not all S&B are steel cased. But they are primer crunchers for sure! As mentioned a magnet should be part of your reloading tool kit
tires2burn
I've had primer problems with 38 S&B. I tried swaging but it puckered the head.
Vassago
Not all S&B 9mm are primer crunchers, the ones marked as 9MM luger are for sure. The cases marked 9x19 are perfect and about all I am using at the moment.
Hi-Power Jack
Not all S&B 9mm are primer crunchers, the ones marked as 9MM luger are for sure. The cases marked 9x19 are perfect and about all I am using at the moment. Thanks for the info - I never noticed that, and have been ditching ALL S&B cases for years now. I'll start looking for 9 x 19's.
snakeye
Wow I had never heard that before about S&B brass ...have loaded hundreds and never have had any issues
Beastly
I use a large magnet from harbor freight over all my 9mm brass.
v1911
Crushing primer can also depend on your brand of primers. I can load CCI primers in crimped military surplus with ease. Winchester and Tula will buckle under the same test.
ruleyoutoo1911
I just set the S&B stuff to the side then hit them all with the primer reamer once. It's good brass so I hate to scrap it. That being said, I usually use it for practice or local matches where I don't mind if I lose a few.
