  1. Sooty usually happens to me when under charged. Low pressure = Too long. Your on the right track.
  2. Try it at 1.250 and watch for pressure. I looked it up Ramshot ZIP OUT OF STOCK 0.451" 1.205" 5.5 908 17,600 PSI 6.5 1,013 20,700 PSI the WC seems to like short to cycle.
  3. I would check the load data for the velocity you want and go from there. Usually with a new powder (for me) I will start in the middle. If you are going to chrono these start at the bottom and work your way up in half grain loads.
  4. Check the OAL and crimp on a factory round and go from there. If the factory round chambers for you its your loading thats wrong. Are you sizing/ Is the crimp the same as the factory/ Plunk it in your barrel like 45ravon recommends. All barrels are chambered differently.
  5. Try loading to 1.250 OAL. They might be to short.
  6. If you call RCBS and give them the info on your die they will probably send you what you need for nothing. RCBS is a stand up company.
  7. If you have a chrono start at 5 loads of 4gr & drop to 3.8 gr and then 3.6. One of them should work for you. Have fun and watch for squibs.
  8. Guaranteed it will be smoother. After they are sized with the one-shot put them on a towel and spray with some alcohol and roll them around to wipe dry. This gets them ready for seating with no lube on them.
  9. I always spray my bullets with Hornady One shot before sizing. It goes a lot easier.
  10. A $20 LEE sizing die might help you out.
  11. Maybe you should try a crimp remover and not a reamer or a drill bit by hand to countersink the primer pocket. If nothing seems to work tear it down and clean, clean, clean. If that doesn't work send it to Dillon.
  12. When you feel a primer not wanting to seat, don't seat it, remove the case and use your case deburring tool to bevel the pocket. Reinsert it to the primer station and see if it seats easier.
  13. If your using mixed brass in 45 some have small primer pockets ( blazer ) or maybe they have been previously crimped.
  14. Thanks for all your comments.
  15. Yea, I've heard about that. I guess you can get a firing pin with a return spring. I never cycle live rounds but I have done a lot of dummy rounds trying out my stripper clips.
  16. Thanks 6 & 51, I just didn't want the .310 rattling down the barrel like a .355 in a .357. I guess the best way is to do a chrono and accuracy shoot and see how it goes. I found some Hornady SST 150gr in .312. I''ll load up some .310's and then some .312's and go for it. The .310 are flat base and the SST are BT. I should be able to come up with a comparable load.
  17. So your saying that if the bore slugs out to .312 use a .310 bullet. Is that right?
  18. I got a sweet SKS and load all my ammo. I slugged the barrel and its .312. My AR 10 is .308 and my AK is .309. The bullets I have are .308, .310. What can I use for the SKS?
  19. This is why you start out with a single stage. Once you get confident in all the operations, you move up. Quality control is the most important part of reloading. Progressive presses can run a lot of rounds fast, but also a lot of rounds that are wrong. Starting out slow is safer. I started out with a lee turret press and moved to a 550. Got a double charge and lost a sweet S&W 65-4. Then went to a 650 and got new challenges. The faster they run the easier for mistakes to happen. Mr. Scuba is right on the money.
  20. Most indoor ranges don't like the smoke lead lubricated bullets put out. Plated are the easiest but casting your own and then powder coating is more fun. The final result is about the same.
  21. I have 3 different 380 ACP's and one of them would give me fits on cycling. The chamber was the problem. I had to load .015 shorter so the bullet wouldn't get stuck in the lands.
  22. Go to you you tube and you will see and find what will work best for you. All you basically need to do is take the flair out to make the case straight.
  23. The pins I use are .047x.269. Never had any problems with this size. Two won't fit in the flash hole and one drops through.
