JP Enterprises' Rocky Mountain 3-Gun - August 13-16, 2015

Recommended Posts

We are excited to announce the 2015 dates for JP Enterprises’ Rocky Mountain 3-Gun!

August 13-16, 2015 at the NRA Whittington Center in Raton, New Mexico. :goof:

We asked, we got lots of input, but most people wanted to shoot just 3 stages a day for 3 days. So, the plan is to shoot 3 stages a day August 13-15…that’s Thursday through Saturday. We will still be doing one on, one off, as transportation time between stages can be so long out at Whittington.

We still plan to have a BBQ/Junior Benefit on Friday, 14 August.

Shoot-Offs and prize table will be in the morning on Sunday!

I know that some of you really need to get on the road Saturday night or Sunday morning. We will do our best to make it convenient to have someone else pick up your prizes for you. This includes staff as well.

Stay tuned for information on our new Team Competition. All registered teams (4 members in 4 different divisions) will shoot a Team Stage, kind of in the style of the old SOF Team Stages, and the top teams will have a team-on-team shoot-off for cash prizes!

 Special Thanks to JP Enterprises for joining us as match sponsor once again!

Please check out the fabulous rifles and rifles parts and accessories at: http://www.jprifles.com/

JP is very supportive of 3-Gun in general and Rocky Mountain in particular, so remember to support them as well!

I was up working on stage 3. Early in the match the Sierra squad comes through. Wynn Anderson steps up to the line and says "I'm gonna be slower'n piss, but lets see if I can go one for one on these rifle targets." I chuckled and said, "Bring it old man. Show us what you got." Well, Wynn Anderson not only shot one for one on all my rifle steel, but he didn't fire a single extra shot anywhere in the stage and shot the stage clean. He even went one for one on the last three pistol steel, choosing to shoot them at about 40yds!

On day 5 of the match, I had the JP squad come through. This was a huge squad with the JP factory guys, the Wongs, Vicky, Kelly and a few others. John Paul asks me, "Has anyone shot the stage clean?" "Yep, Wynn Anderson 3 days ago." John Paul says, "Challenge accepted." John Paul shot early in the squad and steps up to the line with a stubby little SBR. I asked him where his 308 was. You see , John Paul usually shows up with his LRP-07 running some go sick'em 110gr load, packed with dynamite. He puts on quite the pyrotechnics show with the 6ft fire ball that pushes out of his barrel. We generally keep fire extinguishers on hand to make sure he doesn't burn the place down. On inquiry John Paul tells me that he's shooting his SBR service rifle (same one he sells to police departments) just to show that his shorty rifles can go toe to toe at 500yds. John Paul shot the rifle targets one for one and that became the challenge for the squad. I think there were 4 guys on that squad who went one for one on rifle steel. So anyone thinking of going sideways in front of officers running JP SBR's, you better think twice because those stubby gats and reach out just fine.

In the end Wynn Anderson was my only competitor to shoot the entire stage one for one and clean. Good job Wynn! And good job JP for making such terrific rifles.

Oops... should have put this on the 2014 match thread. Oh well.

Cheese and crackers! That is not what I said. We were rained out on the first day and shot stage 4 on the next day and then came back to finish up on 3. What I said was: "I hope I don't miss." I shot like an shaky old man on 4 and got lucky on 3.

I am old, slow and miss a lot. I just got lucky on this one.

Wynn, old and slow still works. Having a good time with friends, old and new is why we shoot.

Any International shooters (from OUTSIDE the USA) that are trying to get plans together...I have posted the International Shooter's application at: http://rm3gworld.webs.com/

John Paul reminded me that back in 2003 as JP RM3G continued on the SOF traditions, that it was a World match. So we will call it that again, as it was on the plaques back in the "Miller brother" days. (No, there were no dinosaurs then...maybe a couple of cavemen... :roflol: )

We welcome International shooters, but all shooters will have to figure out their own guns and ammo!

Again, the dates are August 13-16. With shooters shooting 3 stages a day August 13-15 and shoot-offs and prize table on Sunday, August 16. We plan to have everyone on their way by 1300. Because of distances, it will be one on/one off just like this year.

Applications for return shooters and General applications will be up in December. I will post here as well as on both of our websites and our new Facebook page!

I think they're 3" on a side. I know they look smaller.

Let me check to make sure.

Rocky Mountain Targets makes them for us. They're not listed on the website right now, but I'll get back to you!

We really like them because they don't get hung up or turn, and can be shot pretty close because of the angle.

Rocky Mountain makes a cool stand for them as well that makes them not fall as easy with a couple of pellets, but fall really easily with a decent hit.
