chowellacsbd
Always wanted a Baer in 45, but never had the patience to wait 1-2 years to get my hands on one. Had been watching Cove Creek Outfitters for one, but they didn't have any P2s. Heard about Oak Hill Guns from a gentleman here and thought id check them out. They had two in stock and I ended up going with the Premier 2. The other was a Boss with 1.5 guarantee and was a bit over my budget. Ended up getting the P2 for about 1720 shipped! Already ran about 600 rounds through her and only one ftf... 230 gr Factory ammo nonetheless. Running 185 berrys flat points with 5.6 gr of IMR PB at 1.135 oal and shoots amazingly flat and SOFT. Very fast follow up shots. The gun is still tight and am definitely looking forward to breaking it in further. jaredr
congrats. i've always thought the premier II's were the best value for a high-end hand built 1911.
chowellacsbd
Thanks guys! The thing is so tight. Feels very solid and extremely well made. Any magwell recommendations? I was thinking a Smith and Alexander... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

honda01
Actually an Ed Brown Maxi-well. It has a bigger mouth than the S&A. They are about the same price from Brownells. Baer uses Ed Browns for their magwells.
chowellacsbd
Only reason I was leaning towards the S&A was it being a one piece, not two...if that even makes a difference though. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

steviesterno
good luck and enjoy! I have 10s of thousands of rounds through mine, and I still need a tool to take it apart.
tbarker13
Mine loosened up pretty nicely around 1,500-2k rounds. Now it's just smooth. And very accurate.
al503
Awesome. I've wanted a PII in 9mm, wide ambi, rear serrations only and 20 LPI front strap checkering for singlestack. Not sure I want to wait for 10-14 months, though.

This is where I got mine: http://oakhillguns.com/pistol/les-baer-custom.html They had one in stock, so I ordered it...had it at my FFL in two days, possession in 10. Some of their pistols dont show pricing, but just google "oakhillguns gunsamerica" and you'll find their current pricing. No tax either!

tbarker13
Bought both of my Les Baers (a Thunder Ranch Special now sold, and my current Ultimate Tactical Carry) from Crazy John at 1911 Heaven. The guy generally has some of the best prices on Les Baers, being one of the company's top distributors. Can't remember the exact price, but it was around $1,700. Maybe a little less. Really wanted a UTC without front cocking serrations. And that's one of the models that 1911 Heaven tends to stock, or have on order. He doesn't advertise prices on his web site. You have to call him. And the dude loves to chat.

twodownzero
Can't go wrong with a Les Baer . I would beg to differ. I know of no manufacturer who makes a larger proportion of jammomatics than Les Baer. I have never seen one make it through a match without a jam. cuzinvinny
There must be something wrong with my Premier II, it's been flawless since I bought it 6 years ago. Near as I can figure it's well over 150 matches without so much as a slight hickup. Not one FTF, not one FTE. Not to mention countless practice sessions. And it loves those 200 grain SWC's that choke most every other 1911.

My own personal experience is that they are incredibly reliable. And I'd say that the overwhelming opinion of other owners is that they are quite good. It's rare that I hear anyone voice the opinion you just tossed out. (Though I seem to remember a similar comment elsewhere that is essentially word-for-word what you just wrote. So I'm guessing this is a repeat.) I don't generally shoot mine in compeitition - though I did recently shoot it in a match. Not a single jam. chowellacsbd
Heading to the NRA range in Virginia tonight for a private range session with some office friends. All ammo is comped and plan to run about 1-2k through the Baer. I'll give a report back as to any jams...if any Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
