  1. I use my Wilson 47d (45 acp) mags in my .40. I can easily throw my Barney round in there for 9 total at the start.
  2. Those that are shooing major seem to have gravitated to .40. Otherwise a few have changed to 9mm.
  3. 9mm open to burn Ammo seems the best choice.
  4. Try some 200gr XTP bullets. I've used 5.0 grains for IDPA matches, very nice shooting. OAL 1.245. Should have no trouble making major PF.
  5. Local Sportsman's warehouse has VV for $38 a pound, when you can find it.
  6. Actually an Ed Brown Maxi-well. It has a bigger mouth than the S&A. They are about the same price from Brownells. Baer uses Ed Browns for their magwells.
  7. @noylj: I run N310 almost exclusive in my match ammo for 1911s. 4.5 over a 200 LSWC. It has been pretty stable for me, no pressure spikes that I can think of.
  8. And you will want a ramped/supported barrel to help deal with the higher pressures.
  9. You will need a whole new top end.
  10. STI doesn't have the strongest of finishes that I have had or seen. Safariland has a swead (sp?) lined holster. Problem is, unless you have a sheepskin lined holster, all of them are going to cause wear of some sort. If you are looking to refinish the gun at some point, there are some very hard/durable finishes out there. Hard Hat treatment is one, Ion Bond another. IF you are looking to compete, you are going to get wear no matter what.
  11. Umm, this argument over the best 1911 could/should be settled at the Single Stack Nationals. Same platform at the same match. What do you say Kimbertarget or Mr. Car loan guy?
  12. This is right along the lines of the AR15 mall ninja guy that worked at Mall America. Good stuff, pass the popcorn.
  13. Metalforms in 10mm, the 8 rounders with the metal followers. I load long at 1.18-1.20 and have never had a problem.
  14. I have two TRS from Baer. If you can find a Custom Carry, it's the same as a TRS without the roll mark.
  15. I have two TRS from Baer. If you can find a Custom Carry, it's the same as a TRS without the roll mark.
  16. I've noticed that n320 has less flash when shit it low-light conditions than the others mentioned.
  17. I've had to go to an .80 size on my Novak's. A bigger green was needed, but still was easier to pick up than the red.
  18. I agree with ah1356, This year's SSN was pretty much set up for 8 rounds..even the steel stage was pretty much 8 round neutral. I shot it with major, those that shot minor in my squad really didn't have much of an advantage as far as round count.
  19. Folks: Mike and I have had these conversations with regards to my own son. At the age of nine, he was shooting Steel matches with his Buckmark .22. In the last few years, Iowa changed its law in such that my son cannot shoot a pistol until 14. Reflecting on that, it was good in a way because it gives my son more time to mature as well as get a more formalized course (hunter's safety) out of the way. We all have that paternal pride, we want to spend time with them in sports that we all enjoy. On the serious side, Mike is right, a simple distraction or lack in judgement/experience by the child can have very serious consequences. If the hand strength is not there, would they force a bad postion to work out of a jam? I don't think anyone here would say that their kid is that good and they would never have an AD or ND.
  20. I ordered the 4-pk tuned mags with my CRP 9mm Edge. Those that ordered the tuned mags got priority over the standard ones. Very happy with the gun as it is running flawless. As previously noted..DP kept me informed every step of the way. They had an issue with the gun and they sent it to STI for warrantee repair prior to doing their work.
  21. Time wise and costs, you can't go wrong with an STI worked over by Dawsons or Brazos. You can probably get those in kit form as well.
  22. Dawson said that they use their own reloads for testing. The bullet is a 125 gr JHP, with a 1100-1200 FPS....no other details are given for legal reasons. I've been using Frontier 124 FMJ over 4.0 gr of Titegroup. 18 shots over a chrono averaged out to 1040 FPS, very nice load. Brass piles up about 1-2 feet away. With a 2Alpha 124gr TC, over 4.0 gr of Titegroup, 18 shot average was 1173.
  23. Does anyone know what load Dawson Precision uses to test the STI's they work on?
