ctay
9.6gr HS6, 115 MG JHP, CCI SRP, Starline 38SC brass. Would you consider any of these primers flat? What else should I look at in terms of pressure signs? (BTW the purple is from Dykem)
Sarge
Those primers look fine. They are barely deformed if at all. The first thing I look at are primers. You will know a flat one when you see it.
ctay
ok - thanks! This was up at 181 PF which seems pretty dang hot. Gun shoots softer up there though..
Youngeyes
These are what flat primers look like. Yours are fine. http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/h329/21Carrier/IMG_1991.jpg
jdphotoguy
Good timing on this as I'll soon be working up loads for 9MM Major and it's nice to see what I should be looking out for.

And I have picked up some 9mm that were so flat they looked like they were one solid unit.
Ronnie j
They look pierced to me, I'd bet if they were pistol primers they'd be flat as hell . Looks like a few are flowing into the firing pin hole

GrumpyOne
They are fine. If they were pierced, the edges would be flat, and the surface would be cratered.

ctay
Good link - thank you! Yeah, the Dykem does throw off the picture - sorry. On the plus it does make it easier to find my brass...
felt
While we are on the topic, how are you applying the dykem?
Sarge
Probably a marker. They make magic marker type pens as well as spray and regular ink type liquid.
ctay
I put the rounds in a 223 box and spray the heads with dykem. The 223 box leaves just the head exposed so it doesn't get on the sides of the round. I bought the 223 box at Sportsmans warehouse for $2... Aircooled6racer
Hello: Looks great to me. You could try a shorter firing pin since it has good strikes and no primer flow. Thanks, Eric
