  1. I was just reviewing the January 2018 Rule book and I noticed that in Appendix D4 (Heavy Metal Tactical Division) there seems to be a contradiction. Item 3 (Minimum caliber / Cartridge), under Handgun, it lists .429 / 44 Special. But in item 6 (Minimum Caliber for Major), again under Handgun, it lists .40 / 10mm. I'm guessing one might just be a typo but which is correct?
  2. I know a couple of people who do this. Seem to work well.
  3. I'm curious about trying Carry Optics Division. Where can I find the criteria for that division; ie: is there another annex in the rule book? If so, I can't find it.
  4. This will be my first Area 2 / Desert Classic! I'm very much looking forward to it.
  5. Flying out tomorrow morning. Haven't shot an IDPA major match since 2009 Georgia State. Really looking forward to this one!
  6. I concur. Kathy has been doing a wonderful job.
  7. The Royal Canadian Dragoons are the senior cavalry/armoured regiment in the Canadian Army. http://www.dragoons.ca/ I'm an 'extra-regimentally employed' member currently working as a staff officer (in the rank of Captain) at a Canadian Forces Recruiting Centre.
  8. I notice on the Phoenix Rod and Gun Club's website that they plan on holding the 2013 Arizona State Championships: http://www.phoenixrodandgun.org/Calendars/2013/Apr_2013.htm But there's nothing on the IDPA Major Matches page: http://www.idpa.com/major_match.asp. Anyone have any info/update?

  10. Here's my S&W Model 66 snubbie:
  11. Thursday is pay day so I'll be sending in my registration then. Massimo Novati - C Class - Calgary, Alberta, Canada http://ca.maps.yahoo.com/#q1=Calgary%2C+AB&q2=Barry%2C+IL%2C+United+States&lat=45.421749&lon=-75.691162&zoom=5&mvt=m&trf=0
  12. Any update as to when registration will open?
  13. Totally uncalled for comment but not a surprise considering the source. And since you brought it it up, nor are many shooters in Alberta; and getting fewer. It seems Bob's (and by extension you, as one of his lap dogs) legacy will be the killing of the largest and most active IDPA club in Canada.
  14. RAZZ: The Spartan is the model with the cast frame (Phillipines). The Trojan and the Sentry are almost the same - same internals. http://www.stiguns.com/guns/Sentry/Sentry.php http://www.stiguns.com/guns/Trojan5.0/Trojan50.php Nope. RAZZ is correct. Trojan (and, as you point out, Spartan) frames are cast and the Sentry (as well as the USPSA Single Stack, one of which I acquired last summer) frames are forged.
  15. I sent in a wait list application back in November (I applied for Thursday as my shoot day). I received two e-mails today, one with a confirmation letter and the other with the password to use on the USPSA 'self squadding' page (I'm now on squad four). Now to book my flights/hotel/car!
  16. I have not been able to see one of these in person. I'd imagine it handles just like a trojan, just upgraded parts? Is the recoilmaster an issue like everyone says with limited guns? One BIG difference is that the USPSA Single Stack has a forged frame wheras the Trojan's frame is cast....... As for the Recoilmaster, I have only shot my SS in a dozen or so club matches (Florida Open wwill be my first major with the gun) and so far haven't experienced any trouble. Time will tell, I guess......
  17. Hmmmmm. More than 200 posts to this thread and not one comment about magnetic mag pouches being disallowed in Production and Single Stack divisions. I guess unloaded table starts with all ammo on the table aren't as popular in USPSA as they are in IPSC matches. (that has been my experience, at least)
  18. I recommend you get an STI USPSA Single Stack (I bought one in .40 S&W last summer). Much better gun than a Trojan and competition ready right out of the box. MSRP of $1796.00.
  19. I bought an STI 'USPSA Single Stack' in .40 S&W last year and it has been perfectly reliable. I run Tripp Cobra .40 S&W mags and don't load long (MG 200 gr CMJs @ 1.095"). I've only used it in about a dozen club level matches so far but I'm looking forward to putting it through its paces at the 2012 Florida Open in Feb and the 2012 Single Stack Nationals in May.
  20. Yup. Sent my registration and deposit for the wait list last week!
  21. Here's another idea: instead of PF (which is 'momentum' (mass x velocity), afterall), why not go to a system based on muzzle energy (half mass x velocity squared) which is more applicable to self defense ammo. Let's say 300 Ft-lbs for SSP/ESP and 350 Ft-lbs for CDP and maybe 250 Ft-lbs for SSR. So to make 300 Ft-lbs a 9mm 125 grain bullet would need to go 1040 Ft/Sec, a .40 S&W 165 grain bullet would need 905 Ft/Sec. For 350 Ft-Lbs, a .45 ACP 230 grain bullet would need just under 830 Ft/sec. and a .40 S&W 180 grain bullet would need just over 935 Ft/sec. I'm flexible on the min ME figures; I'm just putting out some examples (I used this to calculate the MEs - http://www.airhog.com/convert.htm ). Thoughts?
  22. Here's an idea: make non-threat hits 'double reverse points' based. A hit in the down zero = 5 seconds, a hit in the down one = 3 seconds, and a hit in the down three = one second. (winging a good guy shouldn't be as bad drilling him COM) Make those cumulative if you like....
  23. Yeah... all you have to do is reside there for 180 days of the previous 12 months I think. Get creative with the vacation schedule :D 183 Days actually. Rule 6.5.1 http://www.ipsc.org/pdf/RulesHandgun.pdf
