Using 223 shellplate for 38 super?

Hello: I was wondering if I can use my 223 Rem shellplate to load 38 Super or 38 Super Comp with? It seems like it should work since it fits in the shellplate. I will be doing this on my 550 maybe my 1050. Please let me know if anyone is doing this. Thanks, Eric

I tried it and it didn't work. I tore the rims off a few cases and gave it up. It takes a #3 shellplate on the 550.

On a 650 the 223 shell plate is what you are supposed to use with 38 Super Comp and the 9mm shell plate is for the 38 Super.

I use the 223 shell plate for 38sc

Plain super is the 9mm plate

Hello: The reason I ask is that I have 223 shell plates for the 550 and 1050. I only have a 9mm shellplate for the 1050. So I could load 38 super on the 1050 with the 9mm plate and all I would need is the dies and toolplate. Or I could buy a 550 9mm conversion and dies. I guess the cheapest way would be the 550 route because of the cost of the 1050 shellplate. I appreciate the info except for "Whatmeworry" Thanks, Eric

For my 550, the 223 plate works with Starline 38supercomp, but not Lapua supercomp. The 9mm plate on the other hand, has served me well with all 38 super and supercomp cases I've ran across.
