  1. These work for me and my 1100: Federal #7.5 1 1/8 oz 1200 fps target loads. Remington Low Recoil 1oz slugs Federal Low Recoil Flite Control 9 pellet 00 Buckshot
  2. Every time I hear of bending a barrel I think of a story someone told about flintlock rifle builder Hershel House of nearby Woodbury, KY. Someone brought a gun to Hershel complaining about the barrel being bent. Hershel looks down the barrel, sticks it in the fork of a tree and starts tugging on it. The owner gets excited and yells at Hershel, "You’re going to bend it!" Hershel responds "#%@&... its already bent, I’m unbending it".
  3. Brownells lists one in the factory parts section.
  4. Hey Squad 8 buddy, sounds like you've made it home already. Did you hear the temperature by mid-day today was down to 79 (after the thunder storm)
  5. The match is just now finishing up. Outstanding match, a big THANK YOU to all that help make it happen. I had a blast!
  6. It'll soon be time for me to load up and hit the road, See yall at the hotel tonight and on the range Saturday.
  7. Ok I will give this a shot Gary wants to try to go hot 15 min. early if everyone is ready and no shooters meeting So 10 to 12 per squad, 5 to 6 min. per shooter, providing no reshoots or range failers, plus 5 min. walk through per stage, 1 hour lunch or less depending on if your squad wants to get on with it, and RO's have eaten, 1 hour posted waite on scores, I know I sure I left something out BUT I will let you do the math to get a ball park time. MY GUESS, DARK 30 Yeah...Dark:30 was my initial estimate too Anyone spending Saturday night at the Lewisport match hotel?
  8. Over the years I've used Scott's indicator method, an edge finder in the mill, a depth mic held against the slide and my eyeballs to look for center. All will get you close - but in the end you've gotta shoot it and go from there.
  9. Heat sucks too...it just sucks less than rain. Yeah....I'm a fair weather kinda guy...give me 62 and sunny everyday and I'll be happy
  10. Anyone in the know want to guesstimate at what time the match, awards, etc. will be complete on Saturday night? Lotsa variables to deal with I know ...I'm just trying to decide if I want spend another night in Lewisport or drive home after the match.
  11. Gene Hill is a completely different type of writer, but if you like bird dogs, duck blinds, autumn leaves, and all things related I expect you'll find the connection.
  12. Patrick F. McManus! I started reading his monthly columns in the 1970's starting with the original “The Teachings of Rancid Crabtree”, saved every issue of F&S and OL (that are probably still in my mother's attic) and have every compilation book in print. My “ Cousin Eddie” was an Uncle, only 1 year my senior, who seemed to talk me into being the test pilot of our many adventures, not the least of which was our attempt to turn a filing cabinet into a canoe. He and Gene Hill are my favorite authors from that time and I still enjoy their work today.
  13. The reason for the extended chokes at least for me is they are far faster to change out than the internal ones that you need a wrench for. I have shot slugs through chokes up to improved modified with no problems. Pat Slugs through Modified choke tubes (and more open constrictions) are not a problem with flush tubes. There is some valid reasoning in using extended tubes with steel shot, mainly with some of the aftermarket Thinwall tubes. The steel shot column is less fluid and harder to compact that either lead shot or slugs. I agree that the reason most gunners use the extended tubes is because they are easier to change out and (if marked on the outside) its easier to see which constriction you have in the barrel
  14. All is not lost. Take a piece of the last bit you broke, grind the tip flat and make punch to tap out the broken piece inside the gas part. The results make not look pretty as you may end up with a bur on either side of the gas port (yeah, including inside the barrel) but those can be polished out. Now whether its too late to get out and test fire the gun is up to you, the time zone, and whether any neighbors or the wife are listening
  15. I will have a 46" Voodoo Tactical case in later this week. Thanks to everyone that offered input.
  16. I want a good quality padded 2 gun soft case to haul my AR and shotgun (plus assorted stuff ya got have) from the house to the truck to the range. Gotta be able to hold a 45" gun to contain my shotgun The Voodoo Tactical Molle case caught my eye. Anyone with an opinion? Any better choice is a similar case? Any BE supporting vendors selling these things? Something like this is what I have in mind in mind:
  17. Try some of the 100 round boxes of Federal #7.5 shot from Wal~Mart. Those are the 1200 fps / 3 DE loads. (Better yet would be Remington Nitro or Winchester AA Target loads with 1 /18oz of shot at 1200 fps). The Winchester Universal and promo type loads have had issues for sometime now with cycling and extraction.
  18. timawa, Tell us about the shells you are using now, and what you were using previously. Brand and type, shot charge weight, velocity or DE. How many round have been fired since cleaning and lubing the gun? BTW, going from a 28" to 22" barrel length will have little, if any, effect on the velocity of a shotshell.
  19. I also like the Nordic because you can disassemble it from both ends, that helps in putting everything back together (with that long mag tube spring) when you remove the extension and forearm for cleaning the 1100 gas assembly. (AFAIK the Choate is sealed on the muzzle end, the ones I've owned are that way).
  20. Whether or not lengthening the forcing cone has a noticeable effect on patterning or felt recoil in “your” gun may have a lot to do whether the cone even needs lengthening in the first place. 10-15 years ago just about every factory barrel had the short, abrupt forcing cone; a hold over from the days of cardboard wad technology that needed the quick transition from chamber to bore diameter to seal the gas (cardboard wads do not expand to the bore diameter and seal like a modern plastic one piece wad/shot cup). These days more and more barrels are coming from the factory with a longer forcing cone, not just the overbored target guns, but even some of the common hunting and HD guns. Look into your barrel from the breach end. If the transition from chamber to bore looks about 1/2” long or less your barrel has the abrupt forcing cone. If you can see the forcing cone appears to be 1.5” or longer you should not expect much, if any improvement from having the forcing cone lengthened.
  21. Stopped by the Lewisport hotel today (after shooting the club match) and booked my room for the Friday night. They still have a few vacancies.
  22. What about Browning themselves...
