  1. I've got a 28” 1100 than I'm going to take over for my (occasional) multi gun match. I'm strictly a limited / tactical class kind of guy. The first idea was to get the +3 tube and cut back /re-thread the barrel to match (similar to the Remington TAC 4). Then I start wondering if the gun may run better with +5 tube so the spring is a little less compacted when I put 8 in the tube (and leave the barrel length as is) Opinions?
  2. From Remington: Most Model 1100 Magnum shotguns with the exception of pre-1977 Model 1100 20-gauge shotguns can be fitted with 2 3/4-inch field barrels for use with light field and target loads.
  3. That guy does all my gun work...the problem is I just can't keep my wife away from him
  4. The thread on the outside of the 12 ga barrel is M22x.75 I have threaded a couple of the Saiga 12 for standard screw in chokes tubes. We went with the Tru-Choke tube to be able to keep the barrel's OD threaded section as thick as possible in the expectation of other items getting screwed onto the barrel. Remington choke tubes would work..... but the minor diameter of that threaded section is getting mighty thin and might cause a problem on some guns. Of course if you are cutting that section off the barrel its a non issue.
  5. Seminole Gun Works took care of me , thanks for the info.
  6. Got access to a disc sander with a table on it? You can lay the grip on the table and roll the grip's top radius around the spinning disc to nicely reproduce the profile.
  7. Does anyone know of a gunsmith in the US that can install 12ga Invector Plus choke tubes? I need to acquire some info on making a repair on a Winchester Super X2 barrel with a damaged choke section (this barrel came from the factory with the Invector Plus chokes) Colonial Arms (of Alabama) once had the tooling but is no longer an option.

  9. Build it and they will come ( From the Aug 29, 2008 Bowling Green (KY) Daily News: ) _______________________________________________________________________________________ By JENNA MINK, The Daily News A 1,600-acre resort in Park City will become a shooting sports, golf and meeting destination, according to plans presented by prospective owners Thursday at a public meeting. More than 60 people attended the meeting at the Park City Lion’s Club to hear renovation plans for the Park Mammoth Resort. The Fortress Group, a Bowling Green-based business development corporation, has yet to close on the purchase, but representatives unveiled the company’s plans. “We want to do things to help this community,” president and co-founder Nick Noble said. The resort will be renovated to accommodate guests who wish to train and participate in rifle and pistol shooting, archery and paintball. The potential owners also said they will keep the resort’s golf course, despite rumors that they plan to sell it. “When we started this journey, managing, operating and owning a golf course (is something) we did not anticipate at all,” Noble said. “It needs some work.” Noble said they hope to attract guests from across the nation, and eventually offer military and law enforcement training, 4-H programs, high school sports training in archery and corporate leadership training. “This will probably be one of the main places for Kentucky State Police to come and do their training,” Noble said. Noble said the group also plans to host shooting competitions, which can attract up to 2,000 competitors. Noble said the group plans to build new features, including berms for shooting competitions, and trap and skeet hills. Developers also plan to build an amphitheater for entertainment, and they will renovate the lodge and restaurant. They also plan to open a coffee and deli shop, expand the restaurant’s menu, offer catering and outdoor dining and keep the eatery open year-round. “We want heads in beds and forks in mouths,” said Jerry Humble, partner and chief strategy officer for the Fortress Group. The potential owners also want to offer Mammoth Cave and holiday packages and attract weddings, family reunions and corporate meetings to create off-season business. “That place is a ghost town” during the off-season, Noble said. The renovated resort will bring jobs to the area, but developers were not sure how many. Noble said the group was working with the state with hopes of landing an incentive package. “Anything that promotes growth in this region is good for everybody,” said Amy Cardwell, sports sales director for the Bowling Green Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. Noble declined to disclose how much the Fortress Group is paying for the resort and its renovations. He said he plans to close the deal in about 60 days, and the renovations will be completed over several years. “All of this isn’t going to happen overnight,” he said.
  10. Rockcastle Shooting Center? ? ? Tell me more about this place....Park City is 1.25 hours from me but today is the first I've heard of it.
  11. The barrel wall thickness is the major factor in determining if you can install tubes and which type you use. Measure the OD of the barrels (at the muzzle) with a micrometer or caliper. On a 12 ga (assuming the bore is nominal .725" -.730") : An OD of .805" minimum will allow Thin-Wall Tru-Tubes to be installed. An OD of .825" or larger will accept Tru-Choke tubes. If your OD is .845" or larger you can add Win-Chokes or Rem-Choke tubes to the mix.
  12. Chris, I shot on your squad and had a blast...I agree it was a top notch match. I am already looking forward to the next one. Steve Rose
  13. I’m thinking about adding the tooling for 12 ga. “Thinwall” Tru-choke choke tubes to my tool line (already have Rem, Win, and Tru tube tooling). I’d like to hear from anyone using these choke tubes. Compared to the other choke tubes these can’t be very thick, How do they hold up? Ever had a tube swell and stick in the barrel?
  14. Anyone have the factory dimensions of the Kimber 1911 (fixed) rear sight slide cut? Got a customer wanting a TFO sight on a SA 1911. This particular sight he is dead set on is only available in the Kimber shape. I’ve measured a couple of sights and slides to draw up my interpretation. If we don’t turn up a published drawing I’ll post what I’ve got (after I go install this sight) Thanks,
  15. In years past Brownells has given out a 10% discount code at the Shot Show. They were always quite open about allowing you to share it with others. So…if anyone has it… how about passing it on to the folks here?
  16. Do you need the spring compressor to take the piston apart - or only to put it all back together ?
  17. Anyone used something like this to take apart the gas piston? GAS PISTON TOOL Are there any tricks to disassembling this piston apart for a 100% thorough cleaning? Do you even need to take it part? (No I don't - but another fellow thinks he does - and I agreed to buy or make this tool for him )

    I Want A .410 O/u

Thanks for all the input folks. I had talked with Briley some time ago and could get a set of .410 tubes for either my 12 or 28, but I think I want a new gun. Don't need it, just want it. Sometime when you ask a question you already know the answer. This is one of those times. Bruce, you hit the nail on the head. Been there, done that too. Now do I want the older DU model, or a new 687.....Decisions, decisions

    I Want A .410 O/u

I’ve decided that I am due a .410 O/U for the occasional round of skeet and raising the aggravation level on the Sporting Clay course. Normally I’m am dedicated Beretta shooter (687 in 12ga and 686 in 28 ga) but darn it, for the price of the .410 Beretta I’ve spied (aint it cute!) I could buy 2 of the CZ Woodcock models or even 2 of Rizzini’s LX692G. And the truth is I’ll do good to shoot the .410 maybe 500 to 800 rounds per year. I know the Beretta is a quality gun. Any opinions from those who use the CZ or Rizzini ?
  20. I shot this match last year after a 10 year hiatus from 3 gun (kids, jobs, etc, you know the deal) and had a blast getting back in the swing of it. Anyway I took the "tactical" to heart and showed up with an 18" 870...I felt kinda like the first girl to show up at the topless beach Yeah, I'll take the Benelli semi this year
  21. Jeff Walle at Specialty Arms in Lavergne is well thought of around your area. In addition to being a master gunsmith he is an USPSA/IPSC shooter with a few TN state championships under his belt, he's a nice guy too!
