  1. A metal Davy Crockett, complete with thermos...yeh, that dates me, don't it, I remember one summer my mom packed it for me each day so I could go and eat lunch with a carpenter crew who were working on a house next door. We sat in the shade of the cinderblock walls of the basement...a real kick for me, apparently, and the workmen must have got a kick out of it because I showed up every day for at least a few weeks. Strange how I still remember all the details from this about 50 summers ago but can't remember stuff that happened last month Curtis
  2. Those were hi-caps originally manufactured/sold during the Clinton-era AWB, and only available...at that time...to LE/GOVT because of it. Curtis Edited to clarify
  3. My reading of the regs is that an OEM part, like the Glock extended mag release found on the G34, would be legal for installation on the G17, for example. But I'm still puzzling through Mr. Amidon's take on the Vanek trigger, though...Previously, the Vanek trigger with external visible mods, trimmed safety, moved pivot point, ect., was out but the drop-in that didn't have these eternal mods was legal. That made sense to me. Seems that the 2008 rules as he interprets them make the Vanek illegal...and he has some support from the modification rules in D4, I guess. But the wording in D4 still strikes me as the worst of all possible worlds...too vague to be specific, too specific to be vague...and that IMO is problematic. Personally, I don't think when Charlie or anyone else adds a tiny adjustment/tuning screw to an Glock internal trigger housing, we create a cataclysmic seismic shift in the Production division. If the powers that be want a box-stock division, make it box stock. Instead the ruling seems to say internal adjustment screw---or aftermarket connector...basically a leaf spring after all---are out, but under D4 we're free to go to town with a new slide or barrel or springs or guide rod, etc., etc., etc. Where's the logic behind this. Seems lacking in common sense from here in the cheap seats. YMMV. But I'm just a dumb C class Production shooter, happy with my Vanek Production trigger. Curtis Edited to clarify one point.
  4. Here's another vote for AA...the once-reloaded brass is just fine and a little cheaper than new brass version. I used many, many thousands of 147 grain rounds before beginning reloading and based my reload formula to capture what I liked about Atlanta Arms. Fine stuff, reasonably priced, always great service. Curtis
  5. I've regularly seen better accuracy than 3 inches out of my Glocks when I'm doing my part. As others have noted, better sights are essential, and trigger improvements such as a Vanek drop-in or at least a LWD 3.5# connector make a difference. Curtis
  6. I think it would be Veeta-VOUR-ee. Curtis
  7. I like M Pro 7 cleaner and the polymer safe version of Gunscrubber for my Glocks. Curtis
  8. Tetra is what you're thinking of, I'll bet. When I went to my workbench, I realize I had the wrong product. I meant TW25B by mil-comm, FWIW. Curtis
  9. Tetra is what you're thinking of, I'll bet. I've used Tetra in the past for the connector area. Now for that area, I grease it well with Slide Glide (standard) and a tad of a synthetic like Mobil One whenever disassembled. IIRC this is what Charlie Vanek uses on his superb Glock triggers. Between complete disassemblies I brush a small amount of Slide Glide (the lightest weight) into that area of the trigger bar-connector interface: I use the light because it has a little more oily mixture that seems to migrate down a little into the interface. As far as the rest of the pistol, I just follow the Glock reqs for oil placement. Glocks aren't picky: I used Breakfree CLP, FP10, Slide Glide, etc. Now I'm using SLIP2000 CLP. Curtis
  10. ...not to mention that a young dude like you will really get your money's worth...your fiscal return will probably beat my IRA by a longshot Curtis
  11. Just to be different...I'm a Production shooter so my Blade-Tech DOH and mags on in back of my hip bone on their respective sides...I set up mine to overlap 3 or 4 inches inches in the front. I find it convenient and don't mind the bulk in that spot when you have three layers of belt. Curtis Edited: because I hate typos!
  12. The only thing I'd check is that the springs are snapped into the followers correctly. When looking at the springs, it's pretty obvious which end attaches to the follower. But it is possible to fail to get the follower seated completely in the spring. But if that checks out, I'd change a couple springs to see if the problem goes away for those mags. Sounds like we have very similar setups. I have 17 hi-caps reserved for matches, all with the original springs. All have been taken apart a least once and all are still running fine. When finally I change 'em out, I'll stick with stock Glock springs. On the other hand, I have six used 10-rounders that I use twice a week and change the springs out every year or so. I've also had to mix and match followers of different styles to get them to run at 98%. The only time I've ever had the particular type of problem you mentioned, the follower wasn't attached properly, IIRC. Good luck and keep us posted. Curtis
  13. Nice looking trigger. Would be illegal for Production, so only of passing interest to me. I've always been happy with my Vanek triggers so I'd be likely to give Charlie's product a first shot if I had I wild hair for a Limited or Open Glock....which I truly don't. YMMV. Curtis

One thing to check is to make sure you have the spring installed in the correct orientation. The open end of the spring hook should be face up where it goes into the black plastic trigger housing, and the open end down where it goes through the tab on the trigger bar. Curtis
  15. Can't go wrong with the Burkett DVDs. Once you have a little experience under your belt, the "Three GM: Shooting Techniques of the Grand Masters" DVD has some useful info. Curtis
  16. Accuracy difference...slim to none in my experience. Longer sight distance helps on the G34, but I'd bet the G17 may draw and point a little quicker. May run each in alternate steel matches sometime just to see. Curtis
  17. People had to be there and shoot those stages to know exactly how much of an accomplishment these seven words represent. Scott, you're my hero Way to go, big fella! Curtis
  18. Thanks!!! Jack Were you able to see the scores . When I pulled this site up , all I saw available were match scores from 2007 and back? Mark Link has 2008 scores as of today when I checked. You may have to dump your browser cache. Curtis
  19. I use nearly the same load and setup as you...but with a 13# spring and stainless rod. I use 17 rd 9mm mags with an orange baseplate to indicate my 11-round-loaded "make ready" mags. I only use downloaded 17 rounders for matches. I use 6 10 rd. mags (that I bought a couple of years back from Pharoah Bender) for practice. I ended up mixing and matching different generations of followers and changing the springs out annually to ensure they run at near 100 percent reliability. Curtis
  20. I don't necessarily agree, though I'm a lowly C class shooter. Never had any more reliability issues with Vanek Production triggers over tens of thousands rounds than stock Glock triggers. Actually that's not true: I have had one problem with a stock trigger in one of my Glocks...though it might have caused by hard CCI primers and a little crud in the striker channel. I tried another Glock custom trigger at first and did have problems...but nothing but reliability from both my Vaneks and a crisp, reliable break. YMMV. Curtis
  21. Spot a grizzly and a wolf in the wild...and spend as much time as possible looking for 'em. Curtis
  22. Love this show along with all the other Sunday night adult cartoon fodder...You're right, this one was absolutely over-the-top, laughing out loud funny Curtis
  23. I use a 13# spring with my G34 and loads in your range of PF (147 gr). Like how the gun feels, but as you found out, with any change it takes some adjustments to timing...the key is that with the adjustments you shoot better than you did before. I prefer the feel of my gun with the lighter springs and have been shooting that way for a while. YMMV. Flex's suggestion on the timing drills is a good one, especially if you have your doubts. Curtis
  24. I'll be there. Dug out the ammo from the rubble of my home and it's good to go. Gun and gear are fine so I'm ready for a rematch of the "Battle of Mid-C Production Shooters".Live 1.25 hours from the range so I'll commute from the house. If I can get my password I'll squad up with BayouSlide. Any other middle C Production shooters want in on the fun? Hank, I'll drop an e-mail to Doc and request that he squad us together if possible. Curtis
  25. Great location for me...just a few hours north...but my step-daughter expects me to be at her wedding that is going to be held at our house the same Saturday. Since she was nice enough to schedule her October wedding to avoid the Gator Classic I guess I owe her one Wouldn't mind if it ended up in Louisiana again sometime down the road. Curtis
