  1. This is making me want to dust off the ole 17 in the back of the safe. First gun I ever bought and shot a handful of matches with it. Hasn’t seen much light in while. Really tossed up the idea of turning it into a cheap open gun for grins and giggles.
  2. He was definitely taken by surprise, that’s for sure. For me, he was a friend before my instructor as he was my boss on and off for years. I thought it would be weird having him be my instructor but it wasn’t at all. The amount of effort he gave everyone in the class was untouchable. He really gave us all the tools needed to succeed without giving us the answers. 100% worth it
  3. My whole goal when my family moved was to have a room to myself for reloading and dry fire. Long story short, the kids have a sweet play room once the shed is done I hope to reorganize the garage and get a back up gun that’ll live in a small safe in there
  4. That’s a good way of looking at it I suppose. I figured they used the dry fire gun as a back up as well but never did understand the reason as to why there’s a specific dry fire gun. I know some people are scared of certain parts break on certain platforms but I feel like there’s mitigating factors for all that. Like snap caps.
  5. with this bit of information, I'd like to ask a follow up question to this. Why is it that with some high-end limited guns or open guns some people will state things like "back up gun with low amounts of dryfire"? I've noticed this a lot lately when looking for a new toy and didn't understand as to why. Do they have some sort of secret that we don't know about? Maybe a 2011 thing? idk. Full disclosure, I don't even have a backup gun yet lol. But I'm working towards getting one and didn't know how to attack it. Probably looking too deep into a simple situation.
  6. @Laughing_jackalwell i greatly appreciate your input. Got a small Liter jug on the way. I don't think I'll be loading nearly as much as I'd like to. damn primers!
  7. If you’re looking for paper target stands. I made ten for about $10/each out of 1x4’s with half a dozen spare sticks for when they get shot out. I cut two 18” pieces and sandwiched a 15” piece in the middle. Then added two 22” (I think)pieces as legs. Got the idea from someone else and they didn’t have legs and it worked fine with a spike in the middle. So you could potentially make them for less if you don’t add them.
  8. I felt this in every way. Shot my first match 10 years ago. Took a break until this past February starting 9.5 years ago lol. its absolutely possible to make B in the 2023 year. Just have to find the right people to learn from and put forth the effort. If you can find a class near by, take it. I took my first in October and it’s helped me tremendously. have fun!
  9. @Laughing_jackalim glad you mentioned your use of brass juice. My wife got me a FART for Christmas and have been hearing good news about brass juice. Looking forward to giving it a try soon once I’m all set up.
  10. guess I'll have to go buy some clay pigeons and take the wife out for a little range day. Sadly, there's a lot I really need to break out and shoot. Dammit Carry Optics taking over my life
  11. oooof. well there goes that idea. I couldnt remember and didnt have mine on me.
  12. Thank you!!! to go back to the OPs question though, I have never unbolted the paddle before. I wonder if one that fits your style more be made and replaced? Got a 3d printer or printer buddy?
  13. I’d defiantly say there are better options. I think that’s obvious to most. But I honestly don’t think it’s a terrible one either. Would depend on the person. Not everyone, or even many for that matter, is like Nils but goes to show that a division can be won without the super nice, heavy 2011 while shooting minor. think it’s a great way to get into open if it’s what you got and enjoy tinkering.
  14. That’s interesting to know. Is it an option to get the larger one or are the new batches just bigger over all and replaced the old one?
  15. I am apart of the Recon and Sniper Foundation. Sounds similar in promoting the sport along with other healthy sports while providing assistance to those in need. Take a look and see how their program fits your desires.
  16. Merry Christmas everyone. Stay safe and stay warm. Hope your stocking were full of ammo

I wish my brain worked like that. I’d even up with a spare slide in the safe all sad and alone. So I’d buy a grip… then a FCU and poof. The really king way of having both lol

Was the masking tape easy to come off? It’s something I’d like to give a shot but really haven’t started moving forward with it. I wonder if my wife’s cricket thing could do some sort of design if I really wanted one. Granted, I would probably just screw it up trying to be to detailed lol
  19. Is it bad that you said this and I had to question which one I bought? That’s got to be a sign it’s been sitting for too long lol
  20. Well I appreciate everyone’s input. I’ve been trying to rack my brain into remembering if I skipped over this in the past or if I’ve been adding more recently for some reason. Looks like I’ll be giving the slide a good scrub down and reassembly and see how that works. I was using a can of hopps that I had but ran out. Maybe that’s my issue. That left a real thin film on everything that dried up and I used less lube than I do now.
  21. I found a topic a while back but can’t seem to find it again. Maybe I’m an idiot but I feel as if I have always put a drop or two of lube on the striker assembly when cleaning my X5. Are you not supposed to? Recently I had two light strikes on one day followed by one another day. So I changed my ammo out and had another light strike. Never had an issue before. Long question short, am I doing this to myself possibly by lubing the striker assembly? The gun only has maybe 5,000 rounds through it. thanks y’all!!!
  22. I wonder if I could bolt some angle iron to the back side of it and another to the wall. That way i could drill a few holes and use some pins to hold it in place. That way it can be easily rolled out.
  23. That’s a good point. I even considered removing the wheels all together.
  24. Question for the pros here. I’d say almost everyone has a nice wooden bench for their reloader. What’s your thoughts on a sturdy tool box? Something like a Milwaukee with wooden topper? Not a cheaper wobbly one. yes the cost would be 5-10 time more than a wood bench but I’m thinking more for the kiddos. I’d like to be able to lock up some of the more expensive or hazardous items if possible. I was thinking I could place a few 4x4s and shims under it, between the wheels to take up any slack the casters may have to make it sturdier. If it makes any difference, the press is a 550. Any input would be great. Thank you.
