  1. You said frugal, yet your front sight cost about 2/3rds as much as the handguard. I like the look of it.
  2. I was kind of disappointed they never got the M2 running. They tried to fake it well with editing though. No dice for me. They aren't that hard to keep running. Perhaps they didn't get the receiver SQUARE during assembly. Oh, and they PAINTED IT? WTF? They only have one school trained gunsmith and they tied him up doing 'monkey-smithing' on 5 ARs? Weird. Everyone else just gives real gunsmiths a bad image. That may be a bit harsh but as I watch I have to wonder how many people think ALL gunsmiths look/work like that. The work shop looks like a Sear catalog spit up. Everything is shiney and new, including the benches and walls. I give them credit for putting on a good shop appearance. There is a lot of Dremel work going on in that shop. I can't complain about that, mine needs new bearings. Just like OCC, the "customers" appear to have something to gain by appearing on the show (MOH winner gets a pass). I've watched every episode and I will probably continue to watch the rest.
  3. Sub second draws, check. Fast enough splits to hit a sub two, check. Move on. Work on transitions. Or, move back to 10 and then 15 and work to keep all A's still sub two seconds.
  4. I have some ammo that does this too. Paky Surplus. It's crap and I would throw it away if I could. I thought it was my rifle since I installed a light hammer spring. Nope, did it in my other standard rifle too.
  5. HEY ME TOO! Awesome. Corey is holding a classifier match next month though.
  6. Diddo on scrap practice. Big time on that one. The top of the slide is not parallel with the bottom of the slide. There is about 1* slope to the top, towards the front. If you just put the slide on parallels and try to flat top it, you'll find that out really quick. Always zero your work (level) before cutting even simple slots. The Kuhnhausen 1911 books are great sources for info too.
  7. Yep. You can find new M&P's for around $439
  8. Double up your hearing protection during practice. Set up practice stages (with steel) and shoot them on the clock to replicate a match. Duel with a shooting buddy for lowest time. I like using a plate rack in practice because it is very enticing to watch the steel instead of the sight. When you miss, you were watching steel. Calling the shot is not easy to learn, but is a must to shoot fast and confidently. T.Tomasi showed a good drill on Shooting USA once. Should be able to find it online.
  9. If you overtighten it, the follower will stick. I have the same issue. I've tried a locking compound, electrical tape etc.
  10. Hell I just hope to get a slot. Did Benning really sell out in .3 second? Free Makers? Pro it is. I too, have to buy one of those tubey things with knobs on it. I have two cabins reserved just in case.
  11. For 2011's Bobby does a really cool grip application. Steel Epoxy, then works it just like stippling. Best thing going for aluminum grips if you don't like tape. I'm running real skate tape on an M&P. Bought from a true skate shop, not hardware store. It's flexible and very very sticky (adhesive). It's very aggressive. I can nearly hang the gun off my shirt by the grip (like velcro). It's my exfoliation technique to cure rough hands.
  12. Hence, why it's called Trooper. Trooper only makes sense during matches that are longer than one day anyway.
  13. If you're a Pro at Phil's Pro-Am you're a Pro at this one. And if you shoot Am at Phil's Pro-Am, you're shooting Am at this one? My comment wasn't for me, but I wouldn't want to be the 'silky shirt' wearer that wins the Am match. I like shooting order of finish prize table matches. I like match pressure, makes it more fun. Even if my order of finish garners me some fancy new boot laces.
  14. and if the prematch partying happens like it sounds like it will, some shooters very well may need those training wheels.
  15. So basically what you're saying then is if the winner of the AM match uses competitive equipment he will be deemed a 'hiding out sandbagger'?
  16. They are gaining ground in my area too. I'm sure S&W's profit margin is not as high as Glock but they are doing well to keep the price very competitive with Glocks.
  17. Is there any distinction in classification? Or is this a true heads up match, for both AM and PRO?
  18. Actually, I think the slide is lighter than the XD. That would definitely be a correct statement about XD's. With a lighter FPB safety spring, lighter striker spring (Apex -4 for example), the M&P seems to do quite well with much lighter recoil springs. I just like the way it feels. I honestly forget I'm NOT shooting a 2011 or 1911. I worked over Fomeisters FS M&P. Same recipe, 11lb, Apex springs, my cut on the sear, 2.0lb trigger and it runs. I'm sure his will need some extractor work soon, but for now I like to watch peoples reaction when the dry fire it.
  19. I thought Tactical only was pretty good for the AM side. I wouldn't mind seeing it split to Optics and Irons, but for simplicity sake I think Tactical only is fair enough. If someone is willing to shell out $125 for a large 3 gun match they shouldn't mind peeking at the gear rules and conforming whatever they may have to fit. It's still "nearly" run-whatcha-brung..just take the second optic off rifle and leave the comped pistol at home. If someone only has a pump shotgun, pop the $30 for a mag extension and run it. We still have 7 months to prep gear and practice. Due to the difference in entry fee, I don't think an AM getting 'bumped' to Pro-open is going to happen, unless they are willing to shell out another $125 to stay in the game.
  20. ...and the winner of the AM division gets bumped to Pro the following year right?
  21. If the slide stop lever has a spring to lower it (Glock, M&P etc), then the gun will do this by bumping the grip in a forward motion. 1911's (and designs) don't a have a spring to lower the slide stop lever, the slide physically lowers it when pulled rear ward.
  22. You'll need very very good quality bits and a solid vise. Between the surface finish and hardness of the slide it will dull bits rapidly. Note my avatar. It can be done, but it's almost worth it to send it out (freedom gunworks etc).
  23. I'm down. I'll let Corey have fun with the .30 this year. I drank the squirrel spiked kool-aid.
