  1. match this weekend showed me a new problem to overcome, I dropped a mike on five of ten stages, and what made me realize there was something wrong is that they were all the last shot of a target array as I was leaving the shooting position I was still shooting but not hitting the target work to do now is set up the target arrays and insist on nailing the last shot before moving on to the next ones
  2. if you hit the stand does the plate sometimes fall?
  3. check that nothin is binding trigger bow, I don't know on an STI if the trigger bow is in contact with the mags in the frame but on my Para I have to watch mag dimensions, sometimes they old trigger back from reset
  4. I don't like having to add more to the rule book but we did have a stage last month where the firearm start position was unloaded on the table with mags in your pouches, when I was ROing I asked the shooter to draw and place the unloaded firearm on the table which was not LAMR but something that I was making up on the spot, would "Make Ready" help this situation?
  5. usually primer grey on all poppers and plates, drys fast
  6. I had a mag yesterday that was causing the trigger to stick back and was hard to seat, checked dimensions with and without ammo and I could hardly see a difference between it and the good ones except that when I looked at the mag from the front I could see that the follower on this problem mag was sticking up higher than the others, I squeezed it gently in my bench vise until this follower was not sticking up any further than the rest. Checked out fit and operation and the problem seems to be solved. Is there are better way to adjust the taper on the mags?
  7. the video of the guy shooting off the edge of the cliff is very interesting, we could never get away with that!
  8. went to a 0.090 post front sight from a .125 FO, I like seeing the beside the post, seeing the "ghosting" effect re: page 184 of my bible (Practical Shooting)
  9. we had some stages setup at the match on Sunday that had the start position 5- 10 yds away from where the first target arrays could be shot and I noticed a difference in the way the GM's and M class shooters were able to get moving compared to the rest, there seemd to be an explosion of movement. I know we aren't all trying to be GM shooters but I can see where some guys will be trying to get fast split times on shot-shot but will give up big chunks of time just getting going to the targets.
  10. I just saw that the IPSC Ontario website has a nice tribute to the Judge Terry O'Hara
  11. we've been working with one stage of this style at each match and I was very happy with this one basically trying to get a freestly stage with multiple target views through a couple of ports we had been trying to do it with vision barriers and lots of ports but this time I simplified with only a couple of walls and worked with my fault lines to create an arc that would get rid of the lateral movement, the result was 45 shooters and 45 ways it was shot good to see Pat out at the match
  12. Canadian Nationals videos
  13. These stages have some of the best eye candy. They actually built a tank with a turret. Quebec Provincials
  14. ditto most have a patch gun and provide their own patches
  15. as far as the camouflage, what can I do as match director? just ask the guy not to wear it next time, in this case he also had the "I am a bomb tech...see me running" t-shirt
  16. as match director, it is easier for me to get help with a direct request to each person than a broadcast to everybody, I have guys that don't shoot at all but come out just to help, myself I haven't shot a match since last August but I RO at matches and MD at our club the way I figure it is that everybody does the best they can and when a judgement is made about helpers sometimes they don't know the whole story, I have guys who help set up all day the day before the match just so they can concentrate on shooting the day of the match, other people don't see the contribution they made.
  17. 6 stages with 50 competitors through on Sunday, got to tear down just before big downpour but way too muggy all day Stage 1 - wall stage with ports and multiple target views, no problems seem to have that figured out, some complaints about targets at 25 yd being too far away Stage 2 - card stage - walkthough said flip over 2 cards and those are the no-shoot targets, found out after that at least one competitor had seen a mark on 2 of the cards and figured out how to game it, lesson learned - all props have to be unalterable and same for everybody Stage 3 - 7 pepper poppers, 1 flip up paper, 1 swinging paper - lesson on this one to ensure calibration of poppers can be done during the match if there is a question and steel frames have to be nailed down Stage 4 - run and gun no problem Stage 5 - 6 plates and 1 paper at 30 yds - couldn't believe shooters ankle deep in brass trying to hit plates at 30 yds, is this too far to shoot? Stage 6 - door in the wall - no problems overall good match but I think next time I will spread out steel into all stages, RO's will get extra attention to making sure stages are being run consistently, this was my 7 match as match director and just when I think I got it, new challenges come up, I guess that is why I like the sport because it is so dynamic
  18. not really, they are password protected on the IPSC Canada website
  19. we had a match on Sunday with one stage that had 30 yd classic targets with penalty targets blocking 50% of the target, as course designer I do get comments that people think I am trying to make it too hard with a stage like that but I also had other stages where the targets were 5 yd away and shooters also missed them
  20. great site steve i would like to see what the videos look like via headcam
  21. I had one break in my Para and sent it back to Cominolli and he replaced it gratis, he also sent me the recommended buffs since then, no prob.
