  1. IN JP's defense the rifle you shot probably weighed a considerable bit more: larger wall thickness of the milled receivers, Magpul PRS stock, and the (IMO) overly heavy Larue barrel diameter. all this extra, compared to what i'm guessing the JP rifle weighs, free weight adds up to damping perceived felt recoil. I'm willing to bet the JP rifle transitioned faster and stopped easier on longer range targets.
  2. Dont hold your breath. I played with a 16" PredatAR at a match last month and it didnt feel much lighter than my 16" Stealth, set up damn near the same (stock and optic), and a site heavier than the 18" or 20" gun I normally shoot. Which is why my previous thread about turning down a Larue barrel was posted (and done today as a matter of fact). Fact is, Larue are GREAT rifles and hellaciously accurate, but starting with the thicker receivers and adding the large diameter barrels might make it a fine instrument for long sustained accurate fire, its still heavy for this GAME we're speaking of. So yeah, Larue over Noveske hands down, if for no other reason than how good Mark and company are to us (something it pays to remember, thank you very much Mark). And for the GAME we are referencing in this thread, JP over Larue.
  3. Been thinking for a while now that I'd like a 7mm WSM. I've got some parts on hand I've accumulated over the past years and I'd like to put them to use. * Manners T2A stock, cut for Rem 700 SA as well as for a Badger bottom metal detachable mag * Badger bottom metal detach mag system * Rem 700 SA complete receiver for the .243/.260/.308 bolt face My question is, can I end up with what I want, functionally, with what I have to start with. My rifle builder tells me he can open up the bolt face and install a new extractor to work with the dimensions of the 7mm. I'm undecided about this one. Other main question is are there mags available that work with the 7mm WSM and feed into the Badger bottom metal kit?
  4. Stlhead has it right, best answer so far. (I own both and use them in this exact configuration now)
  5. eric speaks truth. and jim does damn fine work.

  7. You've just wet sanded an A1 butt stock in your kitchen sink...
  8. aggunner: edit out some of the over the hood part...?
  9. bought a Browning auto 22 in .22 short, to replace one my dad had stolen, needed a little work to get it 100% functional (it is a 1946 model, IIRC, old gallery gun) and then nice satin reblue and refinish the stocks. Three and a half years later... I got to give it to my dad for fathers day. Look on his face made the wait to give it worthwhile, but three and a half years, dude...
  10. tested it last thursday, 60 rounds in it, 60 rounds out of it in rapid fashion. shot it in a match saturday, used it in 3 stages and its so far 100%.
  11. Deceptive, as he didnt actually. he just consistantly shot well through all 4 stages, usually besting us by 20 to 30 sec after raw + penalties. I did see him go to war on several individual targets, and then take the next further one out in a single shot. note to self: dial in correct elevation next time. I'd held off on going to this match the past few months for several different reasons, one of which was past reports of how the stages were set up. Today, I'm glad to report that I didn't really find the kind of action that I'd heard about in previous matches, everything just pretty straight forward, and run and scored pleasantly. Not a whole lot of ways to game stages, just get up there and deliver. No hoser anything really, and IIRC only one rifle target under 100 yards, everything else from 100+ to damn near 500, and a lot of it. Just as much of a rifle match as Rocky Mountain, just condensed down some (and about 6500 feet lower, thank God). This is not in any way one of your typical matches set up in bays with batches of targets in contact distance. No sir, its fairly real shooting out in the countryside, on top of hills and from around trees, running up and down hills and valleys and negotiating terrain while managing your weapons. Some fairly aerobic running distances, some odd rifle positions to get into and out of, but I didn't mind really. I more got out of it a sense of what I needed to come back home and work on, which is what club matches should be about in my opinion. I plan on coming back.
  12. I see you having two options: #1 cost of repair to the tube (whatever method you choose) and then shooting a gun that you a) have the fuel cost to drive to a match, entry fee to shoot the match, c) cost of ammo for the match, that just might d) crap out on you at that match and ruin your day... or... #2 cost of a new Nordic tube. I vote #2.
  13. got mine in from Brownells today, test later this week.
  14. JP. Period. There are others out there that are also of quality, but NONE who do more for US, THE SHOOTERS, than JP.
  15. I wanna know if any of y'all have re-profiled a Larue AR barrel. I've got a 16" Stealth and ... It's a bit chunky under the hand guards. Shoots great, but it doesn't handle as quick or nimble as one of my rifles with a 0.750" barrel. I dont wanna screw up a great shooter, so y'all chime in if I SHOULDN'T pull it apart and re-profile this little gem.
  16. MG nats 2009 someone helped themselves to ALL of our remaining .223 out of Jim Lamberts vehicle, and we still had to shoot the last day. frantic trips around town finding ammo and not being able to re zero the next day. oh well... In this case neither I nor any of the company I was with thought it was fellow shooters, the range was open to visitors all weekend long and I saw plenty of non shooters (very obvious) roaming around. Trace, if there is anything notable about the custom M&P, make it known. Just might get spotted somewhere...
  17. Shoot it. If I got beat by someone running an AK, I wouldn't be worried about his brake, I'd be more worried about ME. Shoot it, and don't say a damn thing about the size to anyone. I can't exactly see anyone breaking out a set of calipers to gauge it unless you were at MG nats.
  18. barrel length dont mean squat for open, youre not dealing with a sight radius. Optics dont care about sight radius. magazine length is what you should be concerned with in open, like 10+1. and yeah, its ok to have your mag tube extend out past your muzzle. plenty of guys do that. in fact there was a shooter in my squad at RM3G who had, i believe, a 15 round tube on his gun, possibly a 24" barrel.
  19. :roflol: +1 Show more 3 GUN SHOOTING and less filler/interviews with the top 8. Think of all the things we bitch about on Top Shot: too much drama and not enough shooting. If I want to see that junk I'll tune into something like Big Brother.
  20. No negatives. We sell them (retail) and havn't had any, read: ZERO, come back since their inception. Made from good quality parts, assembled correctly, and if properly maintained should last you the shooter a lifetime. and if you dont buy it, I will at that price.
