Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. We are planning a match for this weekend. The registration will be updated shortly.
  2. FS, The "Precision" division at the North Texas Multi-gun monthly matches is actually a 4 Gun division. Our intention is to not have a sniper match, but provide an opportunity to play with another gun. In our Precision divisions you will use the normal three guns used in Tac Ops with the addition of the precision rifle. The plan is to shoot either additional targets or in lieu of the carbine, depending on the stage description. Targets will be AR500 steel beyond 100 yds. Max range will be as far as we think we can get away with, but we will keep the max distance under 600yds for now. My guess they will generally be from 200-400 yds. Also expect smaller targets than the normal 3 gun targets. These new classes are a work in progress. We will keep the minimum round counts for the precision rifle low (~5 per stage). I don't expect to have more than a couple stages requiring the PR. This all of course can change with time, etc. If the weather permits we be able shoot next weekend. As for your original question your 25-06 should be fine. Maurice
  3. I've gone as high as 49.0g of Varget (WLR primers & LC Brass) with the 135 SMK but that was a little hot. Definitely don't start there. That was in my 16" armalite that you are familiar with. OAL was 2.795 in. 46.0 grains should be fine if you are using regular rifle primers. However, if you are using magnum primers (Like the CCI 7.62 primers), you could start seeing pressure signs around 46.0 grains. Maurice
  4. Sounds like an eye relief issue. It may not be set properly on your rifle for you. To verify if the scope is mounted correctly, I have my students first set their optic on minimum power. While standing, mount the rifle to their shoulder without moving their head. You should be able to see clearly through the optic without any "blacking out" of the optic. If you do lose some of your optic the scope must be moved forward or backward to correct this. Once it passes that test then repeat at maximum power. Again the glass should be clear. The eye relief range will be lower at higher magnification. Also some optics have smaller eye relief ranges thus making them susceptible to "blackout" when the shooter is in alternate shooting positions, like prone. Hope this helps.
  5. Another reason for the high percentage of baby boomers in SASS is that they grew up watching Roy Rogers and the like on TV. They were their childhood heroes. We shot SASS for a long time prior to 3 Gun. There are a lot similarities between the sports. You have to master 3 guns, transitions, stage planning and shotgun loading on the clock can destroy a stage. And they both are a lot of fun. And the "Saloon Girls" ain't bad either.... Maurice
  6. Let's see what we can do. We will at least get you home in time to watch the Texans win their first title!!
  7. You are more than welcome to come out the day before the match and clear as much pathway as your heart's desire!!! We will even provide tools to clear mesquite!!!
  8. Glad everyone had a great time! The next 3 gun match will be on February 5th which will put us back on our 1st Sunday of the month schedule. We are planning on having an open range day this Saturday for those who would like to shoot on the 1000 yard rifle range. Details are on our website for those who are interested. Mo
  9. Got back this evening from the range. Slings will not be required for the Jan 8th match. The range has dried up enough so we can use the Canyon again but the pistol gulley is still wet. So we decided to put two stages in the Canyon: one 23 rd shotgun run and the other a combined pistol/ rifle run. And yes we mean run. So you will want to bring plenty of shotshell caddies. Oh and bring at least six slugs. Maurice
  10. We don't have a round count but may have at the most 3 slug targets.
  11. Due to FB3G and New Years we have rescheduled our monthly matches for the 2nd Sunday in December and January. Weather permitting of course. Mo
  12. Just a couple reminders about the 3 gun match at 3MR this weekend: It is NASCAR weekend in Fort Worth so the traffic on I35W and surrounding roads could get a little congested. Also, Daylight Savings Time ends so don't forget to change your clocks. We have 5 stages planned for Sunday. Pending the weather forecast we plan on shooting the pistol run and expanding the canyon stage. We will also try out a new location with some unique features. Signups start around 8am and the safety briefing is at 9am. Follow link below for more info. Hope to see ya there, Maurice Match Info
