  1. Big props here. just stuck a case, jumped on the forum, did a search, and found this thread and in particular this bit of advice. which worked like a charm. Thanks a million.
  2. one surefire 60rd 3 30 rd pmags one Firebird pmag coupler one 20rd pmag total and done. usually run the 60 with a spare 30 in a back pocket. 20rd stays in the bag so i always have one if i need to shoot off a bench. the Firebird pmag coupler slips on faster that you can pull a Dawson +1 basepad from a S_I mag, so you're always GTG, with a minimum of extra crap in your bag.
  3. are y'all seeing something i'm not? cuz i'm seeing a guy shoot a fairly good group from prone supported, then a decent group prone off the mag and the same thing from prone + elbows, and then a crappy stringing really high group (i use group loosely here) when he's torqueing the barrel UP. i'm not really seeing anything we don't already know here. i shoot tighter groups when i'm bagged up vs. free hand, and we all use FF handguards and dont rest the barrel on objects because of the POI shift. DUH!
  4. http://www.deltapdesign.com/accessories-store/m14-muzzle-adapter Pat Kelley, you know, Mr Heavy Metal, Mr M1A, recommended this to me and it works like a charm. with a timed Rolling Thunder comp (no crush or peel washers) its pure sweetness. BTW, thanks Pat.
  5. Why dont you tell us what you DO have as far as equipment, props, and volunteers? decide on what kind of scoring and rules system you are going to use. I'm getting this same thing going here locally, and I use a slightly modified version of Denise's rules. Also, used excel to print me some dedicated score sheets with clearly defined scoring, cuts down on drama at the match. Advice: keep your first one simple and see what works and what dont. you've been to bigger matches and you've seen what kind of stages you like shooting... but that dont mean you can pull em off right out off the bat. I kinda failed first time i did this because i didnt anticipate all the variables.
  6. didnt really matter to me, but i watched a shooter on my squad change his tube length depending on the stage at last years RM3G. screw it, open is open. you want to strap a javelin on the front of a 26" 1100... go for it. makes for great pictures.
  7. back then i always said a true 1x on the bottom end, and thats what i used for a long time. this last year i've been running a 1.5x on the low end, and up till about 3 weeks ago i'd have said i was wrong about the 1x comment. then i realized i'd been shooting mainly matches with not so close targets vs any hoser stuff. didn't do as well as i know i can on a pile of hoser stuff, really saw my speed taper off. now i'm gonna go back to my original thought that, FOR ME, true 1x is preferable on the low end.
  8. i've gotten "blaster worm" twice this year. last time was me doing a search for hornady superformance info. why someone would create worms/virus just to cause havoc is beyond me.
  9. well i'm gonna run some of the factory loads through an 18" Firebird this weekend and over the chrono, i'll post results here later.
  10. ok, with what Tod said in mind, I just pulled a bullet on a 75g .223 superformance match. measures out to 26.8g, which honestly is more than i expected. hmmm. I see me doing a ladder test this weekend. starting LOW.
  11. got a pound of Superformance, looking to cook up some .223 but I'd like to hear from y'all that have tried it. barring that, I ordered a box of 75g so I can pull a bullet weigh the charge for a reference and starting point. not really interested in the 55g, just trying to get 69's and 75-77's moving a little faster, see what happens. thanks guys
  12. not so much as a list, I keep my truck stocked up with damn near everything I want/need for up to and including major matches. case of 9mm, .40, 3 cases of shot shells from bird, high horse power 6's, slug and buck, case of .223, case of .308, sunblock, chapstick, advil, rain jackets, extra shoes and socks, ear plugs, clear and shaded glasses, light snacks (granola bars, tuna, water), some MRE's, spotting scope, targets, sand bags, hammer, pasters, batteries, 5 gal gas, ... probably more i'm forgetting. and plenty of DVD's to watch if/when stages get reeeeaaallly backed up. range bag keeps small parts and repair items for all three guns in a secure latching lure box, lube, cleaning kit and rods, pens, tools (multi plier, 6 in 1 screwdriver, metric and standard allen key sets) squib rod, compact binos, 6x rangefinder (new addition, probably lose the binos now) advil, bandaids, mole skin, gauze pads, wet wipes, alcohol pads, hand warmers, gloves, knee and elbow pads, 9rd shotshell arm band, 6rd ahotshell caddie, wilderness AR mag pouch, PPE kit of glasses w/ 3 lenses, 2 sets of molded ear plugs and several packs of disposable ones, swiss army knife, batteries for c-more, Meopta, Burris, AA and 9v. double rifle case keeps my chokes, 20 rd AR mag, boresnake for 12ga and .223, 2 slings, extra bolt and carrier. i know it sounds like a lot, but it condenses nicely, i'm not into carrying a ton of stuff around.
  13. Doug, you dont have a hair on your ass if you dont paint it up like a bayonet.
  14. well, I'll tell you that my 20" DPMS runs the hell out of 110 vmax on 49g of 748, avg 3180fps. with no cycling problems.
  15. TX Multigun/Larue > MG Nats. And not just cuz I live in the Lone Star State either.
  16. Open is OPEN. Run what you brung and leave the excuses at home. Dont strangle it like USPSA does with the shotguns.
  17. I've fallen out of the loop on this one, but where is a good place to look online that y'all have good expierence with that I can see/buy a good quality winter coat, wind/rain resistant in a muted color (OD, sand/khaki, ect)
  18. lost two dogs this year... it just hurts.. and hurts some more. Hope you have some pictures to remember your friend fondly, I thumb thru mine still.
  19. i've shot one, didnt try for groups so i cant comment there, just blasted some off at the 100yd gong, but it did what it was supposed to do. i'm not gonna even try for heavy irons with it, i'd think it was heavy optics only. ran 100% with bulk 147's that day. solid feel to it, kinda thinking adding one to the stable.
