  1. O.k. Called them and was told "I'm sorry sir, we are getting out of rifle scope accessories." I'm going to take it with me tomorrow and hit a few of the local shops, see if I can fall into some luck!
  2. Got the Leupold 1.5x5, but I'm having a bit of trouble finding a lens cap for the front. Anyone using one that they can give me a model number off of? My shop carries Butler Creek, but I don't mind getting one somewhere else if need be... thanks
  3. Guys, I've never shot a 3-gun match before, and I'm just dying to bring it to my club. I'd really appreciate it if some of ya'll would chime in and give me some design ideas and tips about how to build the stages needed, whether they be shotgun or rifle (I'm fairly decent at building a pistol stage) or a combonation of both. I've read about building a hot box so a shooter can stow a hot weapon, and I'm willing to build one or more. Thinking of having an aux RO to watch over said weapon, too. The bays I have to work with are: 1) main bay is 40yd wide x 40yd deep (most of the time we set up two stages here, a big one and a speed shoot) 2) rapid bay is about 15yd wide x 45 yd deep (good for shoot-on-the-run downrange scenario) 3) aux pistol bay is 15yd wide x 20yd deep. 4)I can also use of one end of our 100yd rifle bay, but cannot use steel there per club rules. All shots would probably have to be fired from the fixed firing line, no moving downrange. *We have one other pistol bay, but we leave it open for any other club members to use during matches. The three skeet and 5-stand fields are out of the question, as well as the 200 and 300 yard rifle fields and the cowboy action range.* With club permission I can shoot rifle or shotgun on the aforementioned pistol bays. I've got about 10 4x8 walls approx 6 feet tall on stands, some with ports, 6 4'x4' walls, 80-90 target stands, 15 poppers, 8 of which are rated for rifle fire, Texas star, 20-25 plates on stands, clamshell, beartrap, dissappearing target, swinger, 15 solid end barrels, 2 open end barrels, 2 Bianchi type barricades, about 100 ft of the 3' tall orange safety fencing, several shooters boxes, probably some other stuff I'm forgetting, I'm willing to build/fabricate what you might suggest I need, and most of all a huge desire to shoot 3-gun! Soooo... How about helping a brother out! p.s. I'll be gone for the next week, working out of state, so don't think I'm ignoring you by not responding soon!
  4. So a few of you have stated that you use Beta C mags... are ya'll referring to the big double coil 100-rounders? If so, then that's something I would have never figured to be used, owing that to the weight involved and the overall bulk of the thing. I've heard of them splitting/cracking along the midline when dropped. I'm assuming they do get dropped if a shooter does a mag change...? Heard mention of the 40 and 45 round mags also, but they sounded almost as finiky as 170mm open mags. Truth? ACE stock--I guess I just like it, also like the idea of it quieting down the "sproooiing!!!" noise. Of course it already has a standard stock now, maybe I'll leave it that way for a while and spend the money on the JP fit trigger. Already have the Bushy match trigger, but since so many suggest the other one, must be for a good reason. I had thought about milling some extra vents in the handguard, but was kinda hesitant to mention is. Figured I'd get heckled for pimping my gun. Glad someone agreed. I'll research these CProducts mags. From what I've seen on their site they are cheaper than dirt (start at about $10.50). Is there a preferance on the springs, either chrome-silicone or ss? Great help so far guys, thanks.
  5. Since I got such great answers to may last question, I'm gonna give it another try. Other than getting Benny Hill to build your AR, which I haven't ruled out, what other equipment or add on accessories actually work and are useful for the AR in 3-gun? What I'm talking about is stuff like extended mag releases, oversize safetys, ect. What kind of grip works? Which forearm? JP drop in trigger, Chip McCormick, ect? Changing followers and springs in mags? Arredondo mag bottoms, mag cinch, mag funnel? From what I've been able to pick up here, redi-mags aren't very popular although they have a few devoted followers. How are ya'll carrying spare mags, whether it be on the rifle or on your belt, and if so what kind or carrier/pouch? Looking for some hindsight from those that have been there and tried that, and who have found out what works and what is a waste of $$$. I'm starting with a Bushmaster Varmitter 24", and so far I plan to cut it at 18" and add a Bennie Cooley or F2 comp, Leupold VXIII 1.5x5 illum circle dot on a Bushmaster rail extension to get the eye relief I want (from past expierence), keep the freefloat handguard that is already on it but add either the JP tac sight or the aux sight from Flatland Forge, an ACE stock and Magpull MIAD grip (I know I like it, already have one on another AR). That's the plan for now, but any of you feel free to change my mind for me. Before some forum nazi's say "just send it to Benny", I work part time doing repair in a gun shop w/ a master smith, and I would get some personal satisfaction of doing the work that I am able to myself (parts changing, and he will help me install the comp). I do know my limitations, and like I said when and if I get to that point of seriousness it will be in a padded case on it's way to Benny's shop.
  6. Remember that I'm not real familiar with this particular game yet, so what exactly are you referring to? My guess is that the shooter is using the BAC, and that the closed cover on the front eliminates the magnification so all you are left with is a (for a right eye dominant shooter) dot/donut/chevron/triangle from the right eye input superimposed over the actual target input from the left eye. Am I even close to being right?
  7. Wow. Guess that answers that question. Now I can get some sleep Yes, I was referring to limited/tactical division, although I did not clarify. Couldn't you read my mind? Now that all that is settled I can really get to work on my new AR, just as soon as I get back from assigment in New Orleans... Maybe I ought to take an AR with me...
  8. Hoping to not repeat my past mistake in THINKING I knew what made a good 3-gun rifle, I have been spending alot of time pouring over the forum here, doing searches, ect. I think I've narrowed down what I want in a rifle, but keep having a nagging question about a scope. Here's the dilemma: There appear to be two basic camps here. Camp A likes the EOTech for everything, as long shots can be made and hosing is easy. Camp B likes a 1x4 for long shots and maybe a set of aux sights on the forearm for hosing. My question is what is to stop a competitor from mounting a set-up such as an Aimpoint CompM2 and then utilizing the Aimpoint 3XMag on quick detach mounts in conjunction for stages requiring precision distance shots? Disclaimer: this is not a set-up I am planning on using, just inquiring minds want to know. 'Ya know?
  9. Good post. Thanks for expanding my AR knowledge.
  10. Great info guys. I'll be implementing some of these tips very soon. THANKS!!
  11. Folks, I've been using my CZ Standard IPSC .40 S&W lately in local USPSA matches, and having a ball with it, except for one tiny problem: I'm having trouble ejecting partially used mags. The top round gets pushed slightly foreward of the feed lips and drags on the front of the grip frame. I can still yank them out with little effort, but this takes time from my reloads, or adds to it however you want to look at it. So, any suggestions on how to overcome this problem? If it matters, I'm using the same loads in this gun as both of my Para limited guns, and OAL is 1.165", and every other .40 I have (SIG, STI, Para, Vektor, ect.) digests them with no problems at all.
