Finally read the FAQs (3/11)

  1. I’m curious about other’s experience with plated bullets leading up barrels/comps as well. I have seen plating flake off if bullets are over-crimped or run at very high velocity. Ran a camera down my barrel and it looked like I struck gold with all the flakes
  2. I’ll have to track it. I’m using RMR 380 95gr FMJ for my steel loads, but that does have the exposed lead base. For USPSA I’m using his 115gr JHP. Was chipping at the comp last week a little (with my respirator on) despite using anti-spatter. Most of my recent shooting has been with the FMJ.
  3. Agreed, and it’s not a fair comparison.
  4. Sorry, I stand corrected. Not enough coffee yet Open generally wins our local USPSA matches. Though they also do well ar SCSA. You are correct that the RFRO/PCC the top of our local SCSA matches. That said, RFRO is a competitive division, Kenshiro Nagata is in the area and when he’s shows all is lost…
  5. Right! I didn’t even know they gave out trophies? Most people just get excited for the raffle items and goody bags at the Level II’s. Open always seems to win overall in our matches, unless Kenny is there, then nobody has a chance in hell:-). I can’t even confirm his hits on plates because it sounds like one long ding. We all just filter on our divisions in practice score after the match to see how we fared in our respective divisions and various stages, to see if we’ve improved or confirm we beat our buddies:-). My buddy’s 13 year old sons’s been threatening to beat me at several matches and I’ll celebrate when he does!
  6. Taccom made a toothed jig for this. Not sure how well it works. My buddy also uses a 12 gauge brass brush/rod chucked to a drill that he says works well. I think you have to do it every time your done shooting with a shrouded barrel or your lost. Even with anti spatter and soaking overnight in Kroil or Solvent, most of us are chipping it off with metal pics, punches, etc. JP makes an ultralight shrouded barrel with a door to the crown that works well, but it’s pricey. I gave up on the shrouded barrel, in RFRO I use the Briley and for PCC 14.5 pinned JP. The 10’ Brekke with the 6” comp/cage is a nice solution too. Light, easy to clean and well priced. He’s a great guy too.
  7. I agree with this. I started steel challenge three years ago. I came over from 30 years of Sporting Clays and Skeet, with my 10 year old because he wanted to shoot fast:-). RDRO/PCC was easiest for both of us to transition from shotgun. Hoops actually dialed us into to our RFRO setup…thank you! Different divisions appeal to different individuals. I still love RFRO/PCC the most at my age and eyesight. I dabble in USPSA, but after a fall at a match (no DQ) I still enjoy SCSA better. Many of the younger shooters at our club think SCSA is boring, but they shoot steel to get trigger time with their favorite USPSA guns. CO and now LO dominate in my area. Cost is a big factor limiting young people from shooting open. Why not open LO up to attract shooters. I also agree with adding more stages and/or brining back old ones to keep things interesting. My club also cannot run the wide stages like OL. I’m from the Midwest and now in CA, and the regs are moronic here for shooting sports. We need to promote all shooting sports and create ease of entry to attract new shooters and retain old ones, or our hobby will fade away. Californias are moving into a neighborhood near you and they’re gonna try and take your freedom away too, if they haven’t already.
  8. I wonder that as well. Mine is a JP factory 14.5 pinned, as required in my socialist state. Brekke seems to think so, with the comp in front of his barrel extension, but maybe that’s because it’s a 10-12” barrel? I got rid of it on my 22. My AMD timer picks up the shots without a brake, so no more cleaning that one
  9. Does the dremel engraving tool work better than running a brass bit in the standard dremel rotary tool?
  10. Which did you think worked better, anti-spatter or one shot case lube?
  11. I got so sick of it, I took the comp off my 22. Just set my AMG timer sensitivity to 8 and good to go.
  12. Palmetto state has CCI mini mags for $8.99/100 right now.
  13. Thanks. Do you apply it at the range too, or just between shooting sessions?
