  1. I just can’t find any info on apex’s spring weight. Going from their competition spring to the carry spring, according to Apex’s website increases the da pull by about 1 lb. This might indicate that there is more then 1 lbs difference in spring weight and there is also another issue: I have to change springs about once per year. due to use they wear out. If I want to purchase a new spring from cgw or Wolff, which one would I get if I can’t tie the apex to a certain spring weight. Yes, you are right going to the Apex carry spring will fix the problem but 1. adds more weight than needed 2. doesn’t tell me which springs to buy other than Apex’s own. ready to build a spring tester.
  2. Apex competition hammer spring. Which is just on the edge of igniting Tula repeatedly. With the original hammer 11.5 was causing issues after a while and 13 worked perfectly. I am trying to understand what is the next step up from the apex competition spring. I think adding 1 lb or even 1/2lb would fix the “issue”.
  3. My shadow 1 with the Apex kit ignites Federal factory ammo and Fiocchi without issues, Tula steel, on the other hand works fine in SA but not always in DA. One out of five has a light primer strike but every one went off on the second pull. I guess I am just a hair off of igniting all ammunition. DA pull weight is 5 lb 6 oz SA 3 lb 12 oz anyone know what the competition hammer spring weight in the Apex kit is?
  4. I am interested as well. I added the kit to one of my shadows and have exactly this question as well. Additionally the instructions or bette4 bag for the reduced FPS says tapered end towards the rear of slide which seems strange to me as the tapered end reduces the ID of the spring and if placed towards the rear would increase the spring tension. I will find out this Friday anyway when I go to the range and shoot a few old Tula steel cased rounds.
  5. Your other option is a race holster.
  6. That is the best quote of the day!

    S2 Hammer Spring

One of my guns runs reliably with a 13lb all the time, extended fp and light fp spring. One of my guns runs reliably with a 11.5lbs Spring. I could not get the first gun to run reliably with a 11.5lb spring so I switched both to 13lb for consistency.
  8. Any news on the SRO compatibly?

Are you referring to Tanfoglio or CZ regarding the wobble? My Limited Tanfo has some play but all of my SP01s have no wobble at all.

I disagree on the roll pin. I use an extended firing pin for shooting with a low power spring but with the cool fire training barrel I use a standard firing pin with a strong/standard spring. I change springs and firing pins therefore twice a week and it is a 30s job for the non roll pin shadow. Taking the pin out twice a week for a “non-shadow” is too much of a pain for me even with the upgraded pin and a roll pin punch. Same for the solid trigger pin which is worth the $13 to save me the aggravation of needing 3 hands to change the TRS.
  11. Same here, TF +10 works fine for me and fits 28.
  12. Field strip and quick clean after every match. Extractor removal and clean once per year. I also use a dedicated slide stop for larger matches. Detail strip once per year including new hammer spring. Mag clean when I can feel or hear the sand.

I like the shadows better and for me the difference in price between a so01 and a sp01 shadow (standard version not czc or cgw) is worth the price. I would pay the difference just for the easier maintenance. The difference between a s2 and a Tangfolio stock2 is harder to answer. The shadow 2 has more support and “followers” in the US but for me it boils down to grip. While the shadow 2 needs less “work” out of the box the Tanfo large frame just fits me better and points better. That said I shoot my CZ the most because the upper I have works for CO and production it has interchangeable plates and accepts the SRO. It also works in IDPA ssp, esp and co.
  14. Getting old AND not wanting to reload. CO is a lazy/poor man’s open toy without the reloading, mag tuning/cleaning... also for a lot less money.
  15. I love my kadet upper. The only drawback is that I have to use a heavy main/hammer spring because my standard 11.5 and 13lb springs will not reliably ignite a 22lr; I had to go to 18lbs which increased the DA pull. I like using the same platform in CO, production and steel challenge. The kadet is also a lot cheaper to shoot, especially right now.

What he said ^^^ 13 or 11.5 lbs main spring. On of my sp01 shadows runs fine with the 11.5 the other needed a 13 to ignite Wolff steel ammo.
  17. Shouldn’t have said anything, just broke my first TRS and launched the replacement across the room into a very safe location, never to be found again. Forgot to mention I also use a solid trigger pin.
  18. I agree with what was said about the xtreme, ask me how I know. Don’t forget to look at the Defiant Stock Master (IFG).
  19. My favorites are 1. 16 rd spo1 for production with rubber base pad 2. Mac gar 17 with extensions for co 3. 18 rd are my least favorite, the all needed +15 springs, they rattle and the tube is longer 1 and 2 are personal preference I think 3 is the clear winner of my least favorite award. my last sp01 came with 18rd mags my first with 16.
  20. I am using a grease for food processing machines SFL-1. I have yet to break a slide stop. Maybe it doesn’t matter as much which grease and it is more about using grease? I have 2 sp01 shadows and about 25000 9mm rounds between them. I still use a marked slide stop especially for bigger matches just to be sure. Additionally to the 25k 9mm Nato rounds I also shot at least 100k 22lr on the kadet pin w/o issue. Have not broken a TRS either and I use the same lower for 22 and dry fire. TRS gets covered in grease also. More than 200k trigger pulls on the TRS no failure.
  21. To polish the inside of the hammer spring I used a qtip cut in half. It will disintegrate but it fits well. On the hammer strut I took off the sharp corners and made it more rounded. Polishing and rounding the hammer strut as well as polishing the spring ends and the trigger bar made the da pull smoother and it was free
  22. I have 75 shadow with the CZC hammer, 85 combat trigger and the short reset Kit and I also have a stock sp01 shadow. It is not the exact comparison you are looking for but while the CZC internals and work make the gun better I only notice the short reset as a difference while shooting a match. Yes, it has less SA creep and a slightly better, smoother DA pull which is noticeable at home but not so much shooting a match. The short reset on the other hand does help some depending on your trigger pull technique. smoothing the hammer strut and polishing the spring top, bottom and inside will help and is free.

    Max capacity 140mm

TF on the gauge, hopefully with pic attached this time

I use 17 Mac-Gar mags with Taran and Taylor extensions. the TF can be loaded with 22 rounds and the Taran except 23 rounds, both with Grams followers. The TF fits the gauge easily, the Taran is a tight fit. Both work no issues, except the don’t lock the slide back on the last round. I had no luck using the 18 rd mags.
  25. The SP01 Shadow and the Shadow 2 are very good value for the money. A little bit of polishing and a 13lb hammer spring or even a 11.5 and the gun will not hold you back. If the additional $1000 are wort it, is a question only you can answer. My sp01s cost me between 850 and 1150 and the additional money spend will not make me shoot better and it will not make me feel better either. That said, I spent more money than I needed on a Tanfoglio limited and it makes me smile every time I pick it up. So it is more a “feeling “ question than a “performance “ question as long as the gun fits you perfectly and points easily for you. You will know when you pick up the gun which fits you, doesn’t mean you can’t shoot the others. If you didn’t know right away when you picked up the shadow 2 than stick with your sp01.
