  1. I’ve done some testing on the practice range with this. I have a really light load that still makes minor, 147g with 2.8g titegroup, there’s basically no recoil, like a 22. And I was consistently a bit faster with it compared to 115, or 124g loads. Recover faster from each shot so faster follow ups. Its a great load but basically worthless now since i shoot open. Don’t really like to use it training with my carry guns as the recoil of my defensive loads (124g hst) is way harsher, and I like to mimic that.
  2. Ya, ya the standard gen 2 mag followers lock it back.
  3. I haven’t had any problems with either my mbx, or the gen 2 Sti mags. I have 2 170 mbx mags, one holds 29, the other 30, both reloadable. Then I have 3 sti gen 2 140s, 2 with Dawson +1s and grams 11 coil, they hold 22, then 1 that I just build and tested today. It has a grams 11mm base pad, 13 coil spring and I get 24 reloadable, and it ran flawless today, as do my other 2 with Dawson’s. I’m torn, because I really like the Dawson design, and the look of them, but I was disappointed they only hold 22, and the grams hold 24, but I don’t like the base plate design as much. But I guess function/reliability is what matters, grams holding 2 more and functioning flawlessly, I’m probably gonna pick up another one or two. Prices are pretty close once you add the goods to the sti mags, 59 for the tube, 32 for the base pad and 18 for grams guts comes out to 109 for Dawson’s and 114 for grams, and the mbx 140s ars 130. I guess if you’re buying 5 you save 100 bucks going the sti route which is a decent amount of money. I think i like the sti myself.
  4. How many rounds do you get? I really like the ease of the dawsons, and the look of them. if they still made +2s, or something comparable to grams I’d be all over it. I did a lot of reading before buying and I read the old Dawson +2s were 6.5mm, so still quite a bit smaller then grams 11mms. I was a little disappointed that my 140s with Dawson +1s only hold 22. They’re easily reloadable and it’s plenty of rounds for a reload. Stock they held 21, with Dawson baseplates they held 22, and then with grams guts I can jam the 23rd in there but it’s very hard and not even close to being reloadable. But it made them easy to reload with 22. I read most got 23 with that combo.
  5. Ya, I took some measurements, and they seem to be close to 150mm. I was only expecting 23, so 24 reloadable is great.
  6. Yes, for open. I don’t have a gauge, but it looks like the 140 with the Dawson 1+ looks like it would be legal. It only adds like 4mm.
  7. Well I did some experimenting with my sti gen 2 140s and the best combo is grams 11mm base pad 13 coil spring 24rds reloadable, and not even very hard. As the springs wear in a bit it’ll probably get even easier. 23rds right now is super easy. Then I got some Dawson +1s. They told me the +1+ wouldn’t work for 9mm, so with this +1s and grams 11 coil spring I get 22 reloadable. I can stuff 23 in there, but just barely and it’s not even close to reloadable. I reslly like how easy it is to take off the Dawson’s, and I really like the look of them too. But the grams give a lot more capacity. And they’re not to hard to take apart. In this future Id buy more grams.
  8. That’s a pretty good deal. If it’s anything like my sps pantera, it’ll be a great gun. I almost regret not buying that instead of my trubor. I love the look of my sps, not to mention it runs like a top. Not that my trubor doesn’t.
  9. Ohh so it’s not a para clone, I figured since the Mac 3011 was, this would be also. This is makes it even more interesting. I wonder what the price will be. I really wish they would have choose the vista star, the one that looks like a Limcat. But this is cool too.
  10. This is the first I’ve heard. Is that a para frame gun? I wonder what the price will be. I bet it will be quite a bit cheaper then the sps vista, since the Mac 3011 is under 1k, this will probably be under 1500 vs the vista at 1800. SPS has some really cool guns that eagle doesn’t import, like the sps vista 9mm long, the vista star. Someone said they were bringing in the 9mm long years ago and it never happened. I wish they did import more of the sps guns, my sps pantera is a great gun.
  11. I thought the same thing. I figured more powder, more gas. But no, the 124g load was much smoother and the dot tracked better. although that was in my open Glock. I haven’t tried the load in my Trubor yet. It’s totally possibly that it will be different. I thought my Glock was a flat shooter, and after switching to my 2011, the Glock is violent. I’ll have to try it again. But I am very happy with the 124g load in my 2011.
  12. It takes everyone quite a bit more HS-6 to make major then me. 7.5g HS-6 124g Montana fmj 1375 FPS for 170pf With the coated lead i can go down to 7.3g and get roughly the same velocity. i also had a load with 115s, 8g of hs-6, just under 1500 FPS. Felt quite a bit more snappy then my other load.
  13. Jager makes the only one I’m aware of. That’s what I’m running. It ensures reliability with more then just federal primers. But not much more.
  14. With my glocks I’d do a complete tear down every 3k or so and clean and inspect. And I field strip and clean, so barrel, chamber, comp, inside of slide, breech face etc after every range session, plus re lube all the spots. Some times I’d shoot it twice before cleaning but I like to clean my guns so I do it often. And they always run great. But it I just switched to 2011s, and I don’t know how to detail strip them yet. But I still field strip and clean after every range session. I’ll have to learn how to take these things apart at some point.
  15. I pretty much shoot them till they break. Broke a trigger spring at 7k on one. They say change the RSA at 5k, I’ve gone way longer then that. If you go to a light striker spring then it’s probably the one thing that needs to be changed on a schedule, or you’ll start getting light strikes even with federal primers. Johnny Glock suggests every 2-3k, although I’ve gone like 7-8k with, but only with federal primers. But if you’re using a stock Striker spring it will go along fine. Your schedule looks good though. I don’t have any glocks with close to 40k, so I have no idea if the trigger bar and housing need to be replaced at 40k. Probably not a bad idea, good thing about Glock parts is there cheap.
  16. I have a gen 4 g34 also with a Johnny Glock trigger. Mine has a Burris ff3, no iron sights. It’s a great gun, and it’s utterly reliable. I mean boringly. Even set up for open, it just runs and runs. The trigger is about as good as it gets for a Glock, I added an extended firing pin which really helps with the lignt striker springs needed for a really light pull. You can get them down to the mid 3s with a stock striker spring, but to get down to 2lbs you need a lighter striker spring. Im actually going the opposite direction as you. From glocks to 1911/2011s. My new 2011 sps runs like a top. No problems what so ever. The new 9mm open gun I got is pretty good too. a great thing about glocks is you can do literally all the work yourself, there’s nothing I can’t do with a Glock all parts are plug and play. I don’t like that with my 2011s if something breaks I’ll probably have to take it to a smith to get fixed. But maybe in time I’ll learn them as well as glocks.
  17. I shot with a slide mounted for for a while and thought it was great. Then I got a 2011 with a frame mounted cmore and man was it night and day. I shot my gun with the slide mounted dot and it’s just tough, definitely not as fast. You want the dot to stay put, not be moving back and forth on the slide. Basically the Same concept for the sight tracker guns with the front sight on the barrel, it doesn’t really move. I noticed a big difference when going to the frame mount and will do it that will forver now.
  18. This. I was better then the insructor in the class me and my wife took last July. But I was really only there to get accesss to his 1500?yard range. to answer your other question no you don’t. I have for many years with a savage 10 and a vortex viper 6-24. Or look at the RPR, tikka, Remington 700 sps. Any will due.
  19. My savage 10 in 6.5 shoots lights out. Blueprinted action from the factory, 1lb trigger, quarter moa accuracy with handloads, 1/2, with factory. I got mine when they were doing a 150 rebate, so it ended up being like 750 bucks. People pay thousands and thousands of dollars for this type of accuracy. I really like the tikka tac t3 a1, but from here I’d go to a full custom rifle. Tikka is double the price as the savage and I can’t imagine shoots better, but probably shoots close to as good. I topped mine with a vortex viper pst ffp 6-24 that was refurbished for 675, so all together I’m in for less then 1500 bucks and I outshoot all the guys with 7k custom rigs.
  20. I shoot the 123 lapuas in 6.5 creedmoor. It’s just an phenomenal bullet. I push them up to 3100 FPS with 43g of RL17. Shoots 3 inch groups at 800 yards. With the .510 or whatever BC it bucks the wind so well many times I don’t even have to hold for wind at 800 yards. Because even with a 5 mph cross wind which won’t affect the bullet at 100 or 2 or 300, it will push most bullets a few feet at distances like 6-800 yards. A wind you barely feel. But the 123 bucks it like No ones business. And it’s provably the flattest of any bullet. The 140s need like 18-19 come up at 800 yards (furthest my range goes) and the 123 lapuas only take about 14. I know your asking about Grendel, so not nearly the same, but I’m a big fan of the bullet. For the Grendel it’s probably the best bullet since you can’t really shoot the 140s. Many people like the 140s for the 6.5 cm , 260 and 6.5-47 lapua, but I really like the 123s. How fast it gets to the target is one of the most important factors, less time to be effected wind and such. I can push the 140s up to 2850, which is very fast for a 6.5 creedmoor, most only get 2700. But even then I prefer the 123s. And lapuas shoot better then the sierras. It’s strange cause the 123 lapus weigh up to 123.9, and anywhere in between while the sierras only vary between 123-123.3. But still lapua shoots better. ,
  21. I just hit the 1000 rd mark last night and this thing runs like a friggen sewing machine. I don’t think I’ve had a single malfunction at all. I do chamber check all my rounds in the barrel before so anything that doesn’t pass either goes back though the fcd, or if that doesn’t fix it it gets tossed. It runs great with my mbx mags, and my sti mags. The mags that came with the gun had issues, the base plate was hitting the magwell. I chamfered the tops of the baseplates a bit and they also work fine now. Triggers just awesome. Breaks like a glass rod, short reset. I think the reset could be improved a little. A bit more aggressive. The sights are really nice. Fully adjustable. And it’s just a sweet looking gun. One day I’d like to replace the grip with one of the extreme shooters. And maybe a flat face trigger. It it will be interesting to see how long the mim internals last. One person said he had to replace all of them around 5000rds. I do a lot of dry fire, plus live fire. So will see.
  22. I was thinking about this last night, probably should load them up for a while and see if that helps. I think that’s what I’m gonna do. Just pick up some new mbx 155s. I have one mbx 170 and it’s great, and my 140s in 40 cal are also great. Right out of the box it’s ready to go. Then I’ll leave the sti stock and use them for practice and classifiers.
  23. Hmm, that sounds like the combo. I’m surprised I wouldn’t get more with grams 11mm base. But I’ve read people get more with the tti.
  24. That’s exactly what I did and they work fine now. But now I have 2 sti and 2 mbx mags, so these are basically just for dry fire now. Idk why they would send mags that don’t work. But on the other hand tons of other people have bought one of these and not had any problems. So idk.
  25. I think that’s what I’m gonna do. Can’t deicide on the base plate though. Beven said with his 11mm and the 13 coil I’d get 23. But I think with a bigger base plate I could get more. I’m not limited to 140mm, but ya I was so surprised about the 40 mags working. I can’t believe I didn’t notice i was loading an mbx mag, as I don’t have any mbx 140s in 9. But I’m glad It happened or I never would have found this out. Now I only got through 2 mags. So further testing is needed. But I’m gonna try it again on Tuesday when I go to the indoor range.
