  1. Gas jetting out the front of the muzzle generates SOME of the recoil. Recoil is the reaction to all of the "ejecta", i.e. the bullet and the powder gas so recoil is not generated solely by the gas jet. Redirecting the gas jet with a comp will reduce felt recoil somewhat but by no means eliminate it.
  2. I expect masking the slide around the milled pocket, plugging the threaded holes and rattle-caning it with Rustoleum will work fine. This is not a surface subject to wear or abrasion so great coating durability isn't important.
  3. Allient's web site lists .38 Special using Sport Pistol for a variety of bullet weights and types.
  4. I have one of the DPPs with the 7.5 moa triangle on a S&W M&P9 2.0 CORE and am pretty happy with it. It's fast to find the "dot" and precise enough for the PPC league I use it for. That said, apparently I'm in the minority as the triangle version has disappeared from Leupold's web site.
  5. Not exactly what you are using but I just weighed a number of Blue 125 gr RNs. The average weight was 125.8 gr with a range of 124.9 to 126.2. Out of the couple of dozen I weighed, only one was below 125.0 gr.
  6. Of course. I didn't expect the "upgrade kit" would be just a few simple pieces but, as you noted, perhaps just a revised upper receiver. Cheaper than an entire new gun.
  7. Yeah, why sell a relatively inexpensive upgrade when you can sell a complete new rifle.
  8. I wonder if there will be a retrofit kit to upgrade existing GMR-15 and perhaps GMR-13 rifles.
  9. If the offending gun is marking the brass it got more than a short leade. I'd contact S&W and have the barrel corrected or replaced. they should fix it under warranty.
  10. I'm also a lefty and, while I'm not sure what the design of the JP. GMR-15's extractor is, I have never had gas problems using mine. Perhaps, more fundamentally, is there any reason you can't go back to the old, narrow extractor bolt and eliminate the problem at its source? Does the new bolt solve any problem that justifies the new one it produced?
  11. I guess you've never shot Steel Challenge with a rimfire rifle. I have a TandemKross "Game Changer" comp on my 10/22 for exactly the same reason, I want the gun louder so the timer picks up the shots.
  12. Unless you can find lead-free primers I don't thing shooting wax bullets in your garage is a good idea. Indoor ranges typically have a lot of forced ventilation and you don't live there. Lead dust accumulation in your garage isn't a good thing.
  13. Sorry, triple post. Too impatient.
  14. I'm a lefty and didn't find my JP to be any problem because of that. At the very least they provide an ambidextrous safety and you can remove either side's lever to accommodate your preference. A remarkable number of high cost PCCs only provide a right-handed safety. I did change the charging handle for a Radian ambidextrous one but, again, ambidextrous charging handles are very rare as OEM.
  15. Ever hear the comment "buy once, cry once"? If you want a JP bite the bullet (how's that for an appropriate cliche?) and get one. You will never regret owning one but will always wonder what you missed if you don't. My first PCC was a Ruger PC Carbine. I really like it, still have it, and never regretted the purchase but a bit later I bought a JP GMR15 and the difference is dramatic. Yeah, the JP seems expensive and, compared to a $500 PCC it is, but compared to a $3500 Wilson or Ed Brown 1911, it's a gift.
  16. Despite the name, the internals of the "Competition Model" are identical to the other more standard guns. They all benefit from the VQ kit.
  17. Time for an update. Following everyone's advice, I changed the primer cam, primer index arm, the index arm spring, the detent ball, the detent ball spring and the locator tab and spring and the wave washer. Since I have the Dillon replacement parts kit for my 650 I thought while I was in there I I'd change everything. Now the machine seems to be working properly so one of those changes fixed it. I called Dillon and they are sending replacements for the parts I used so in another 12 years I'll be able to do this again. Thanks to all who helped and commented.
  18. Really? I have a Ruger PC Carbine and find it quite simple and straightforward to strip and clean. The takedown feature makes cleaning the barrel super easy and stripping the receiver only requires one allen key and a punch and you could use the allen key as a punch if you want to.
  19. Your so kind! However, the problem persists even with no primers in the press so I'm afraid I'm going to have to disappoint you.
  20. I cleaned everything spotlessly so that didn't do it. The disk does rotate well, it just gets hung up every so often. Which spring?
  21. Yeah, that's tomorrow's project. I was hoping there was a simple answer but new parts are probably going to be needed.
  22. I have an XL650 purchased in early 2008 that has loaded over 20,000 rounds of 9mm and .38 Special, all small pistol primers obviously. It has recently started giving me primer feed problems. The Rotary Primer Disk will occasionally not index quite all the way to the next position and the primer seating punch then hits the edge of the hole in the disk. This happens about one cycle out of 10 or 20, not all the time. It also happens with no primers in the tube as well as when actually reloading. When this began, I disassembled the entire primer feed assembly and cleaned everything and that didn't fix the problem. I also changed the primer cam for a new one and that didn't do it either. I turned the disk over in case one or more of the holes was worn on top and that didn't help. I tried marking the holes where the failures occurred but it doesn't seem limited to certain holes and is somewhat random. Any thought or suggestions? I tried calling Dillon CS but the wait times for help are huge and I thought I'd see what ideas the collective wisdom on this forum could offer. Thanks.
  23. I don't think the Romeo Zero is compatible with any "full size" red dot's mounting pattern. It shares a footprint with the Shield RMSc and the Holosun 407K/507K but not much else. It's specifically intended for small pistols like the Sig P365 and Springfield Hellcat where slide space is very limited.
  24. Have you contacted Kidd about this problem? The Kidds are very closely fitted and perhaps yours is TOO closely fitted.
