  1. Years ago, right after Obama's first term election when primers were in very short supply, I bought two 1,000 round cartons of Federal small pistol primers as that was all I could find. I had occasional feeding and crushed primer issues with them in my 650 that I never had with my usual WSPs. I called Federal and their Tech guy asked me to send a few loaded rounds with the problem primers. Once they inspected them he said they had had some sizing problems due to running production absolutely flat-out to keep up. He couldn't send me replacement primers but did send a check to cover the cost of replacements. I don't know how long it took them to get this resolved as I went back to Winchester after that.
  2. The dot in a red dot sight is effectively at "infinity" so you will use your distance vision glasses or the distance vision segment of bi or tri-focals.
  3. The stock trigger isn't bad, certainly better than the M&P 1.0 I used to own, but to me the Apex is indeed still a must-have upgrade. I installed the DCAEK which includes the Apex sear, sear spring and Ultimate Striker Block. I did not install the Apex trigger return spring that comes with the kit as it's supposed to make the trigger pull heavier. Not what I want. I've never installed one of Apex's replacement triggers as the factory hinged trigger doesn't bother me at all.
  4. One trick for making compact PVC pipe stands is not to glue the upright posts to the base or the cross brace at both ends and just rely on a friction fit. They come apart easily for transportation or storage but are plenty secure in use.
  5. The 350 is basically a hot 9mm using a similar bullet diameter and weight. How about a 38 Super Comp or even a 40 S&W or 10mm?
  6. Alliant Sport Pistol, same bullet and somewhere from 4.0 to 4.5 grains. Check out Alliant's web site to confirm these loads. Poly coated bullets are fine in polygonal rifling
  7. I don't know about aftermarket items but S&W lists the same factory part number for the recoil spring assembly (spring, guide rod and retainer clip) for both the 4.25" and 5" guns.
  8. Why would you buy a 1911 spring for an M&P? Wolff sells a variety of recoil springs for the 4.25" M&Ps in all calibers.
  9. I've shot falling steel matches where the rule is if you drop a magazine it's dead. You can't pick it up or use it before the stage is over and you've unloaded. Always better to have one extra.
  10. The CORE that comes with the CT optic also includes all of the mounting base plates needed to fit an RMR, SRO, Deltapoint Pro, Holosun, Vortex, etc., etc optics. You can probably save a bit of money buying the CORE 2.0 without the CT optic if you can find one.
  11. My load too, 4.0 SP, OAL 1.135" but using a Blue coated RN bullet. I measured a PF of 132 from a 5" M&P9 and 148 from a 16" Ruger PC Carbine.
  12. Any chance the retaining screw that holds the SCS assembly together backed out? It's supposed to be retained by thread locker but that may have failed.
  13. I e-mailed them when I saw the 10-12 week delivery time to ask if they charged the card when the order shipped. I was told they charge it immediately when the order is placed. I'm not real happy with that either.
  14. This is not at all the same as trying to reseat a high primer on a loaded round. Just put them back in the bullet seating station of a progressive press or use the seat die in a single stage press and reseat away. Nothing you are doing will go anywhere near the primer.
  15. Do you have a friend in the States that could order them and then send them to you? It's not like they are a controlled item or require any government approval.
  16. OK, the slide came back from Fabricated Arms today and the 407K mounted nicely. Turn around was only one week and the machining is good.
  17. I will. My slide has been completed and should be back to me this week. I'll report on how it came out and how it works soon.
  18. I've tried every maker's variation of the "Vibra Prime" primer tube loader (Hornady, Frankford Arsenal, etc. ) and none of them were reliable. They would constantly jam primers into the exit chute no matter how carefully it was held and deliver an unacceptable number upside down. I contacted the makers, followed their recommendations and nothing helped. Apparently my experience was not unusual as they disappeared from the market pretty quickly.
  19. 1. Any primer you can find these days. I use WSP because I have always used WSP and that's what I have on hand. They work well but you can't be picky now. 2. Sport Pistol. Well suited to coated bullets and 1/2 the cost of N320. 3. Blue coated bullets. I use their 125 gr round nose but the 147 should be equally good. They are accepting orders but the promised delivery times are 10 - 12 weeks.
  20. I received my 407K from Midway about a week ago. I've had my name on their "Notify Me" list for a couple of months and I was at my computer one recent evening when e-mails stating they had both the 407K and 507K in stock arrived. I jumped on it IMMEDIATELY and placed an order for the 407K. The order was accepted and the sight was delivered about a week later. It is really small but the dot is plenty bright and clear. The slide from my Sig P365 is now out to be machined for this sight and I'm eager to put the two together and get the combination to the range. I give Midway credit for maintaining their published price and having free shipping despite the scarcity of these sights. Several dealers charge inflated prices for the ones they can get.
  21. I agree using a different model series number would have been better to avoid confusion. The 6 MOA dot is really a good choice for use on small pocket-size guns that will typically be used at short ranges and sometimes in a rush. The footprint isn't really unique, it's compatible with the Sig Romeo 0 and Shield RMSC. It's too small to use the current common footprints like the RMR, Vortex/Fastfire, Deltapoint Pro, etc.
  22. The GP-100 is basically an L-frame and fits the same holsters I have for my 686. Ask DAA about this insert.
  23. I've never seen or heard of one. For some reason almost all "serious" .22lr semi-autos, Ruger, S&W, Browning, etc., come with 10-round magazines and there are no larger factory ones available. Years ago Ramline made aftermarket 12-round and 14-round magazines to fit the Ruger Mk-series guns but they have been out of business for a long time. Good reason for that. I had a couple for a MkII and they were unreliable. TandemKross sells +1 Ruger magazine base pads that increase capacity to 11 and a Google search will turn up an article on how to make a standard Ruger magazine hold 12 rounds by modifying the follower, spring and spring guide. So nothing even close to 20-rounds.
