  1. Yes, it's unfortunate but are you willing to continue to be a beta tester for Meprolight? As noted, having your gun milled for a unique footprint that fits an unproven red dot could easily throw good money after bad. Bite the bullet (pun intended) and have the slide milled for a more universal footprint and replace the Meprolight with something proven. The RMR footprint takes both the Trijicon RMR and SRO and the Holosun 507/407 red dots and all of those are proven sights.
  2. Given its performance so far, I think you should get a different red dot, preferably one with better reliability and a more common footprint. Say Docter/Vortex, RMR/Holosun, DDP, etc. Only then have the slide milled.
  3. Progress report. I removed the Picatinny mount and metal shroud from my 510 and it cut the weight over half from 8.3 to 3.8 oz. Huge improvement. More to come when the Taccom mount gets here.
  4. Thanks and you are right. I removed the battery tray to allow the shroud to slip up the right side and gently pried it over the intensity buttons. Not too much of a struggle. I removed both the Picatinny base and the shroud from my 510 and cut the weight by over half from 235 gms to 108 gms (8.3 to 3.8 oz). It's still not a feather weight but will balance a lot better on my 10/22.
  5. I wish this had been available about 6 or 8 months ago. I have a 5" M&P9 2.0 CORE that has an Apex DCAEK in it with the OEM springs and the trigger pull is about 3 to 3-1/2 pounds. I also have a newer 4" M&P9 Compact OR with the same Apex parts and the trigger pull is about 4 pounds. If the Timney had been available when I bought the Compact, I probably would have tried it but I'm not going to spend $150 to replace the Apex parts which work very well.
  6. I realize this thread has been going on a while but I want to mount a 510 on my 10/22 RFRO Steel Challenge gun. Taccom now makes a good looking mount specifically for this combination that allows removing the heavy OEM Pic mount so that will save a lot of weight. I'm debating also removing the shroud on the sight's body and wondering if there is any difficulty getting it off once the four screws are removed. Does it come off over the battery tray and intensity buttons' small projections without a lot of effort?
  7. No, Glock 26 magazines will not fit flush in a PC Carbine. They won't stick out much but they are not flush. I also have Ruger SR9C 10-round magazines and they aren't flush either. Can't help with the 100-yard accuracy as I've never shot it much beyond 25 yards. I shoot Steel Challenge with it and there are no long range shots.
  8. Thanks for all the feedback guys. I ordered the mount from Taccom so we'll see how it works. Removing the shroud and picatinny base should lighten the 510 enough to keep the 10/22 handling well.
  9. Wow, great info. I had not seen that mount before and it seems to be just what's needed to keep the 510 from overpowering the 10/22. Thank you! I guess that leads to another question, how fragile is the 510 with the shroud removed? I won't be tossing it into a barrel at 3-gun matches or dropping it onto the ground intentionally but will it take standard handling without the shroud?
  10. Has anyone installed a Holosun HS510 on a 10/22 for RFRO Steel Challenge? I have a 510 on a JP GMR-15 which been very good and I really like the wide field of view. I think it's a bit big for the 10/22 and would make it top heavy but has anyone used that combination?
  11. Heart of Texas Armory lists it in both 3 moa and 6 moa dot sizes at $369. They are currently out of stock with a "notify me" button on the web site.
  12. I assume that also means it won't work with your carbon ULW handguard for the PC Carbine, right?
  13. None I l know of. The only aftermarket spring I was able to find was a TandemKross heavier spring, which is not what you want. Apparently from a couple of posts above, light loads do function well with the factory spring, which is nice to know.
  14. Is this really the older PC9 "Police Carbine" or the current PC Carbine? I have a current PC Carbine with a 16" barrel and I use a 125 gr Blue RN coated bullet with 4.0 gr of either Titegroup or Alliant Sport Pistol for a PF of about 145. Unless you are willing to play around with the recoil springs, a PF under 135 or so may give cycling problems.
  15. Did you do this? As noted they can come turned all the way down and pushing the up button several times will make the dot visible. Obviously it's not the battery!
  16. There is a company named MRDial (mrdial.com) that also makes similar Dillon powder bar measuring screw dial. I have one on one of my 650 powder measures and it works well. The adjustment is firm enough that moving it accidentally is not an issue.
  17. You could buy a .308 comp threaded 5/8-24 and have it bored to 9mm. That would be cheaper than rethreading a 1/2-28 9mm comp.

EGW makes very good bases that replace the rear sight and are available to fit numerous red dot "footprints" but each model has a specific footprint. Alchin (https://allchingunparts.com/) makes a very versatile mount that bolts to the receiver using the Weaver/Picatinny bolt spacing and accepts accepts several red dot models. It allows keeping the rear sight. I have it on my MkIV. TandemKross sells their "Shadow Mount" that also accepts several red dot footprints and also allows keeping the rear sight.
  19. I have three small primer pick up tubes dating from the late 1990's, with the hairpin cotter inserted through holes in the metal tube itself, and all have bevels at both ends. I have one newer (2008) pickup tube that came with my 650, with the plastic top with the cotter through it, and both ends are square cut.
  20. A Google search turned up several companies that offer this service. Some names I recognize include Maple Leaf Firearms and CH Precision and DP Custom Works.
  21. +1 on the Simplex locks. Very sturdy, fast, ultra reliable and easy to operate in complete darkness. No batteries to die or fingerprint readers to refuse to cooperate. You can set the button sequence you want and change it at will.
  22. I've often heard that .22lr barrels wear out more from cleaning than shooting. The small powder charges, soft lead or thinly plated bullets and low velocities are very easy on barrels. As AzShooter noted, he replaced the barrel on his Mamba at 85,000 rounds only because it was offered at an attractive price, not because it was needed.
  23. No, they are nearly identical in size and weight. The 507 has a slightly thicker (stronger?) frame surrounding the window.
  24. Not really but that's not what it's made for. The original question was does anyone use ratcheting belts for casual and daily wear and that's what these are for. I suppose you could use one for an underbelt if the outer belt was stabilized with "keepers" or as a gun belt if threaded through belt loops on your pants. Anson does make a reenforced nylon web strap they claim is suitable for concealed carry and that might work.
  25. Yes, I've used a DeltaPoint Pro and Vortex Venom on these guns and the HS507c is by far my preference. The circle dot is very fast to acquire and the dot allows precision aiming when time allows. For practical purposes "suppressor height" and "co-witness" sights are the same thing.
