Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Ok, so I just got back from a 3 hr practice session at the range, shooting my K38 with 148gr Zero HBWC, 2.8 grains of Bullseye. When I emptied my spent brass (about 130 rounds) onto the bench I noticed quite a bit of Bullseye "flakes". How much is too much, they all went bang and held respectable groups, but can't help wondering about the unburned powder, I never noticed this with my .45 brass. Any thoughts??
  2. Thanks! I'll give it a shot and let you know.
  3. I am trying to understand why the spent primer goes flying instead of dropping into the cup.
  4. Hi all, So here I am new to reloading and after reading book after book I'm now respectful of primers. Who am I kidding, I'm scared of 'em... So after reloading a few hundred rounds I found that every once in awhile while decapping a primer it (the spent one) will not drop into the cup, instead, it will fly off somewhere or maybe jam the shellplate. The first time it happened I thought it was a live primer and nearly wet myself when I saw it shoot across the room.. Any ideas, am I alone here? Thanks!
  5. Ugh...didn't mean to, well...get ya going on a Sunday morning. I just wonder why each manual has different specs for the same powder and bullet. But now that we know how to push your buttons..."They" may come back to haunt ya! HA! Thanks Grumpy!
  6. Got it, thanks...That's along what I was thinking. Interestingly enough, my Lee manual shows many loads where Bullesye powder is the same start load as maximum. Then I go to Alliant's website and see a lower start grain value. They just want you to buy 4-5 manuals...
  7. So I'm all setup and ready...picked up powders, primers, and have brass. I picked up some 200 grn LSWC cast from the local shop. Is it okay to use recipe data from reference books without knowing or having the bullet manufacturer? It's .45acp and 200grn LSWC. I have titegroup and bullseye powders... Tks!
  8. So my centerfire league starts soon (then .45), the press is in the mail and the brass is clean...I need to head to the store this weekend to pick up some powder, primers and lead. I'm thinking Remington primers and some various powders like Clays and Bullseye to start and see which i like. Any suggestions on bullets? Brand, LSWC???
  9. Thanks guys...looking forward to it. I've read the ABC's and am 1/2 way through Lee's, I didn't want to buy the press before I read it...figured I'd be to anxious to use it. Now I need to pick up some supplies, got about 1k of brass I just cleaned. AND, my three permits showed up today (well, one is hers)...should be a good weekend!
  10. Well...just placed the order for a 550! Now it's time to get some powder, lead, primers and [try to] hit the X ring!
  11. Thanks everyone...I'm pretty sure that the 317 won't be the purchase I make now, mainly due to the trigger pull issues. Shame, it's a pretty neat little gun. Maybe for another time.
  12. Any suggestions on what to get her along the lines of a small frame .22? I'm sure it will be a once, maybe twice a month plinking - and something that she is comfortable using in case the need ever occurred... thanks.
  13. Anyone have any opinions about this gun?? I'm thinking about it for my wife's first gun, 3" barrel in .22 She has a small hand and couldn't find a semi that felt comfortable I've read good and bad, I know it's all about the individual...It seems quite light 11.9 oz,
