  1. I'll take a look at that article-- thanks! Already glancing at it, it's got some good info. The quote you made above is one of my major issues preventing me from moving forward: I'm getting the distinct impression that these Chinese lasers are listing their outputs as one thing to paper screen their way into the American marketplace, but their real outputs are something completely different in practice. That being the case, I have absolutely no idea what I'm getting into if I go that route, which is worrisome. For instance, what if I have one of these lasers on my competition PCC but happen to splash it over a reflective surface while dry firing in my home? I like to base my decision on hard data, and I'm afraid that I can't trust the data that these laser manufacturers are providing!
  2. 2011BLDR, maybe you could answer something I was curious about--if it's allowed to be divulged!--which is if military laser sights for rifles and pistols such as those we're talking about here follow the same civilian 5mw limitation, or if military "operators" go above that... and if so, by how much? I know that when you're talking about things like medicine dosages there's a daily dosage maximum listed on over-the-counter bottles that is far below what you're allowed to take in a prescribed version of the exact same medicine. For instance, with ibuprofen, an OTC bottle allows a maximum of 1200mg per day, whereas my prescription strength ibuprofen bottle says you can go as high as 2400mg per day... and I've been told by doctors that I can go even higher than that for a limited number of months, which I've done without any side effects. I'm suspecting that there's a similar situation going on here with these laser mw limitations. So... Assuming that the military may be going with a "prescription level" of laswer mw, what might that level of mw be? Thanks, J
  3. Actually, if I could find a really excellent light/laser combo, I'd go along with it even if the laser was a bit dimmer. I'm actually an ambassador for Fenix and have suggested that they give dedicated weapon mounted lights a try but haven't gotten any responses to that suggestion yet.
  4. Just finished the season. Loved it! Hopefully there will be a Season 2. My wife/peanut gallery kept harping on plot holes (some I agreed with, some I didn't) but overall I think it was really excellent.
  5. Hairy78, it looks like you're running the laser on the bottom of your handguard. Any opinions on that mounting position? Does it work well with bullet arc and zero? Any danger of accidentally breaking it on rests/barricades? Thanks, J
  6. Interesting info! It's pretty clear why the government limits to 5mw. One of the concerns is a receiver mounted laser hitting folks' hands/thumbs for prolonged periods of time when we're not paying attention. This video shows the dangers of that with a higher than 5mw unit.
  7. LOL. Well, speaking for myself as a lefty, I stick with straight up and down... but maybe I'm missing out and don't even know it, ha!
  8. Yes, but if TACCOM is doing the pin job then they can clock it correctly to the pin, I would think.
  9. Found a Game Changer on OpticsPlanet!!!! Between my $15 off coupon code and free shipping, I was able to pick up a Game Changer for $93 delivered. Since it's OP I'm not expecting it to arrive in the mail anytime soon, but it will be a great buy when it does show!
  10. Stick, keep us filled in on how it goes. I've got their ULW in my current setup and love it. Looking at the number,s I think this barrel should weigh about the same (maybe you could provide a weight when it arrives?) but have the benefit of some extra velocity out of the round, which I think could be beneficial for USPSA (vs. SC) when the plates need to be knocked over. Keep us posted, and maybe there will be a ramped version at some point in the future.
  11. Very Cool! That may be the new hot ticket... If there's no ramped version now, I wouldn't be surprised if one shows up before long. Don't see this completed version on their website as of this moment.
  12. I just made my own using Excel. Is there an SC specific commercial version out there?
  13. I use an iOS app on my iPhone called Day One. It’s basically just a simple workout diary but it works for me when I use it in conjunction with my dryfire app. Additionally, I track my Steel Challenge match times on a spreadsheet, but I only see that being appropriate if you’re an SC shooter.
  14. This is a side view. Top and bottom is just solid cylinder. If you wanted the slats on top and bottom I don’t see any reason why it couldn’t be timed that way.
  15. I had an Allchin comp. It worked, and it was an absolute PITA to clean because the lead just stuck right to the rounded aluminum port. I’m using a Pace Setting Design comp now and it’s super easy to keep clean because it is coated with something the lead doesn’t like to stick to as well, and the lead also tends to fall off it when it shrinks after it cools down. Yes, I still have to clean it, but it’s way easier than the Allchin. And it’s good looking. If interested let me know, and I can get you the PSD contact info.
  16. Not sure if I said It earlier but if I were starting fresh I’d get a police trade in 870 with an extended tube and call it a day. Oh yeah, and a dog. ?
  17. Do any of these places sell the bags unfilled? I almost bought a Game Changer and was turned off when I saw another $25 added on for shipping. Same with all of these I’m sure... EDIT TO ADD: LMAO!!!! This seven pound bag of fill with free shipping on Amazon Prime literally says it's for use in Game Changer bags in the description AND the URL!!!! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EKCOATA?aaxitk=lCQiNpZsAYqSk98O0TncXA&pd_rd_i=B01EKCOATA&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=54dc821a-0937-4e6f-9da9-f8dd5443145d&pf_rd_s=desktop-sx-top-slot&pf_rd_t=301&pf_rd_i=Polypropylene+Pellets&hsa_cr_id=2007452720801&sb-ci-n=productDescription&sb-ci-v=Victory Pellets (7 Pounds) Plastic Pellets for Weighted Blankets%2C Rock Tumbling%2C Reborn Dolls%2C Stuffed Bears%2C Crafts%2C Draft Stoppers and Game Changer Bags. 18. I’m only on episode 2 but loving it so far. I won’t check back here till I’ve finished the season. ? The gun stuff is a big step up from the usual Hollywood BS too, at least so far.
  19. Admitted disclaimer: my issues were not carpal tunnel but herniated disks in my back, putting pressure on my sciatic nerve. So, acknowledging it's a different issue, it is still nerve related. What my surgeon did not tell me before my first back surgery but I learned all too clearly afterwards is that when a nerve is constantly pressed upon, it "bruises" (quotes because these are the layman's terms my doctor explained it in) and the bruise remains after the injury is corrected by the surgery. This means that while the pain/numbness/whatever is dramatically reduced immediately after the surgery, some form of it still remains for as long as the bruise remains. The good news is that the bruise will heal with time. The bad news is that the bruised nerve heals backwards from its farthest extremity back to the point of injury at a rate of one inch per month. In my case, my nerve was bruised from my spine all the way to my left foot. I'm 5' 10" tall, so I'll let you do the math and confirm that it was over two years after the surgery before the pain abated enough that I felt well enough to call myself healed. My point? I totally 100% understand doing everything you can to make the surgery a last resort, and even to conveniently schedule it around major life events like holidays and ceremonies and championships, which I attempted to do the first time around until I literally had to be carried out of my office and driven home by a colleague because the pain got so bad I could no longer walk. My boss told me to leave and not come back until I was fixed, which is a helluva conversation that I made her have with me, and I still feel bad about doing that to her. Long story short, all the time I spent screwing around with chiropractors and electrical therapy and epidural blocks and this 'n that probably added a solid year to my recovery time due to the bruise extending down my leg while I unsuccessfully exhausted all the maybe alternatives while a proven cure was staring me in the face. If somebody wants to try something else before going under the knife, I won't argue against it, but be fully aware that there's a clock ticking at the point of injury, and it needs to get fixed as soon as possible or you could lose more time than you anticipate during the recovery process after getting it fixed for real.
  20. FWIW, I’ve had way too many surgeries in my life. I just had back surgery last week, and 8 new screws put in my right arm a handful of weeks before that due to a compound fracture. This was my second back surgery, I broke the other arm exactly the sane way a dozen years earlier, and I’ve had surgery for “shooter’s elbow” a few years ago as well. At this moment I have a total of two plates and 17 screws in my body. I plan to earn my 4th SC GM card In early 2019, if not sooner. Make up your mind to do it, accept pain as part of the process, and do it. The folks who don’t recover from these types of surgeries are generally the ones who avoid discomfort during the recovery and physical therapy process. When I broke my left arm, they told me that I may only get 80% range of motion back, but I refused to accept that and after about 2 years had 100% range of motion. Only a few months out, and my right arm already has 100% range of motion though I’m still working on strength. I was doing light dryfire 12 days after this last back surgery. Yes, it hurts, but take comfort that in my experience it hurts more before the surgery than it does after getting fixed. If you’re already practicing that much with the pain, imagine how much better you’ll be without the pain.
  21. To the OP, curious if you got the Venom and if you like it?
  22. If I were to go with a less expensive dot, the FF3 in 8moa would definitely be my go-to optic. Keep an eye out and you can pick them up for $200-ish dollars, which is a real steal. Be warned that the difference in dot clarity between the 3moa and 8moa is night and day. I've got a backup RM06 that I "store" on my bolt action rifle. If I ever pull that RM06 off to use as a primary optic on something else, I'll put an FF3 in its place since my bolt action mount will also accept the FF3.
