  1. Dudes, I have the Dawson Ice Magwell on all my 2011's and I'd like to use it or something similar in IDPA ESP. The problem is, I'm not liking the idea of milling a nice Dawson magwell. Also, I think the plastic insert snaps into place on the side, about where I would need to mill the flat spots. So, what magwell do you guys suggest in place of the Dawson Ice? Thanks, Darren
  2. Thanks guys! I guess I was more worried that if I tri-topped/flat-topped a slide that already had the bo-mar cut, the rear sight might look goofy sitting up higher. Normally I cut off about 30 thou when flat topping...I'm wondering if the bo-mar sight cut should also be pushed down 30 thou to keep the rear sight height consistent? This will be my first Limited/ESP gun build....I didn't have to worry about sights with my past open gun builds! Thx, Darren
  3. I'm going to get an STI slide that has the rear Bo-Mar sight cut already done (I just dont' want to mess with having to cut it myself). My question is, if I flat top the slide (or tri-top it), will the factory Bo-Mar slide cut be too high? I guess another way of asking the question is, if I flattopped or tritopped my slide, would it be necessary to cut the bo-mar sight cut myself in order to get it the correct height? I really don't want to mill the bo-mar cut if I don't have to. thanks, Darren
  4. Rent them from SmartFlix: http://smartflix.com/store/category/71/1911
  5. I remember Warren talking (he's a close friend) about a shroud that he made a few years ago. Don't know if he's making them anymore...but if you know Warren, it's probably better than almost anything else out there. I'll point him in the direction of this thread so he can respond. Darren
  6. Talk to Warren Moore (Toolguy). He is the guy that makes the Stick Shift. His vendor forum here on Benos is "Protocall Design". Darren
  7. I just talked with Chris Thomas (MO Section Coordinator and member of COPS range)...he said Walk Ons are welcome. Darren
  8. Well I guess I'm registered for the match and I guess it's still going on? ....No email confirming anything. No online squading again. Nada.
  9. So in a dry fire situation, the dot is on, you see the dot, you pull the trigger and the dot turns off? Or you just don't see the dot? D
  10. FYI...usually the depth to do this is about 30 thou-ish.
  11. Sorry about resurrecting this thread. I just now got around to trying this mod. What I discovered was that when I tightened the center bolt down enough to prevent the shell plate from snapping (with the bearing and washers installed), there was noticeable friction and a grinding feeling between the shellplate and the ball bearing. I know it was the ball bearing and not something else because I removed the ball bearing and the friction/grinding feeling went away. And if I backed off on the center bolt tightness until the friction/grinding feeling went away, then the shell plate started to snap (even with the bearing and washers installed). So, to solve both problems I decided to also cut one coil off the spring under the ball bearing. This in conjunction with the bearing and washers is giving me a nice, low riding, shell plate that doesn't snap. Not only is this going to eliminate the snap, but I think my OAL variances (from case to case) will go away as well. Thanks for the info. Darren [edited to fix typo]
  12. I have just a little bit of experience reloading .223 so I'm not an expert....but....wouldn't you want your X-Die to be first (in Station 1) since it's designed to prevent the case from growing (this assumes you are reloading brass that has already been initially trimmed before being shot)? If you do your initial resizing with a regular die (like you describe above), it would allow the case length to grow. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the purpose of the X-die is to prevent a previously trimmed case from lengthening during the resizing process. Darren
  13. I'm getting ready to build an IDPA legal double cap STI that will also serve as a backup USPSA Limited gun. Since IDPA doesn't allow any rib cage cuts, etc, I was thinking about doing some "aesthetic" cuts similar to yours. Can you tell me how deep are the cuts on the side of the slide? It appears maybe 30 thou or so?? Darren
  14. I also noticed that the app. didn't include the price to shoot the Sunday man-on-man match. I assume it's not free this year?? What was it before, $10? Darren
  15. Any new info on this Todd? I have an 18" bull barrel for my AR that I would also like fluted. The barrel is from JP Rifles...called them and they won't flute it for me. Darren
  16. As a wise man once said "Remember gentlemen, there are no points for second place." Viper - Top Gun. I was really looking forward to my 1st Loser trophy. Hey would you guys mind sending me a hand written note or something? You could even use the back of an old score sheet or something. I could frame it or have it laminated.
  17. One other negative on the smaller red dot scopes...the lenses are smaller and the dot is usually about a 7moa or smaller. I had one of the new C-More STS dots. It was a nice scope but when the sun was behind and over my shoulder, I would lose the dot real easy. The sun would wash it out. The bigger C-Mores are the way to go in my opinion. Also, the aluminum scope mounts don't add that much weight. The bigger scope would be a little heavier but i wouldn't think it would be that noticeable. Darren
  18. Nice match guys! You all really made us work for every shot....I think every dang target in the match was partially blocked with hard cover or no-shoots. Here's most of Squad 10. Some of the guys ran off before we could get everyone together for a picture. Sorry to those that were left out. Darren
  19. Bruce...you must have really stunk..look how everyone in the picture is all scrunched up together and you are off by yourself. LOL!
  20. The St. Louis Area Competition Shooters group recently moved to yahoo groups. If you shoot competitively (USPSA, IDPA, Steel Challenge, etc.) in the St. Louis area, you can find the group and match calendar at www.StLouisShooters.com Let me know if the calendar and group is helpful. Darren
  21. I also couldn't find the E1 - Official Magazine Measuring Device change. It appears Alan is listing stuff that SHOULD have been included but may not have been?? D
