  1. Here you go, just trimmed off most of the center that sits inside the spring:
  2. I have built 3 linear comps for 10.5 barrels. Two started out as solid aluminum rods and one was an aluminum tube with solid ends welded on. Very easy to drill a hole, drop in a pin and weld over it. I am happy how they all came out. I have a CMMG Guard 8 inch barrel coming that I am going to make 16 inches with a linear comp. I believe you can find 6 inch linear comps (sometimes listed as fake suppressors) that you can do this to.
  3. I want to add that testing double taps has made me a better shooter. You need to hold a PCC far better for good double taps than getting one good hit on steel.
  4. Yes. At 10 yards, my double taps were within 1 inch with both buffers, pressing the trigger as fast as I could, like a double click on a mouse. This is with a strong hold and a strong pull into my shoulder and a 5 pound pull on a 4.5 pound trigger. YMMV
  5. OK, modified and tested. This turned out to be a very easy modification and keeps full function of the original design. After looking at the whole setup, I felt that the dynamics might be changed (for better or worse, I don't know) if I milled some clearances on the cushion, piston or even the buffer itself. Then it occured to me that the setup was bottoming out against the delrin pad. And the delrin pad was plenty thick enough to take off the additional amount that was added by the cushion. So, when I trimmed the delrin pad, everything fit, LRBHO works fine and I can lock back the bolt, although it is harder to release due the the additional pressure of the compressed buffer internal spring - inherent to the design and not changeable. So, you don't have to remove the delrin pad, just trim it. When you do, you will have the exact lengths of the original design. So, yesterday I compared it to my current (20.1 oz, 4", dead blow buffer and flat wound carbine spring). The Taccom feels softer shooting. I could find no difference in my double taps due to a difference in movement. This could be the way I hold my PCC or other factors. Since I feel my double taps are about as good as I can get, no matter what I shoot, I am staying with my original setup because all my AR9's are built that way and I'm not going to spend extra $ to change all of them.
  6. Well, "you will screw things up" is not enough information for me not to do it. I will report back when finished and tested. You should take the "Allows for the BHO to function" off your description.
  7. 1. The "hook" is the brass ejector. 2. You can leave the gas tube hole alone or plug it, your choice. It has no function in a blowback AR. I like the lightening cuts!
  8. Agreed, the spring bind is not a problem -- I stated that I tested that and found there wasn't any spring bind. The problem is that the buffer is now too long to function as before. I took out the cushion and replaced it with the original hex screw and it functions fine without the additional length of the cushion. I would like to continue this discussion in order to get a better resolution. 1st, from your website: For carbine buffer tubes only For use in blow back actions only Comes with TACCOM Rifle spring 6.2 ounces 2 stage action Allows for the BHO to functioin Also available with the “3rd” cushion stage So, with no other information to the contrary that I have found (I read everything I could find) the BHO was initially designed to work. Your "Bottom line" statement has no bearing on anything about your buffer. I don't even know why you wrote it. I am sure I am not the only person that would like LRBHO or to be able to easily lock the slide back and not have to release it by slamming the heal of their hand against the bolt release. As I said, your addition of the cushion lengthened the buffer and I feel this is the cause of the problem. I suggested trimming the piston the amount the cushion lengthened the buffer could be a solution. You suggest taking out the delrin pad to allow for more space for the longer buffer setup. I can see this could be a solution, but I would rather keep the delrin pad. I am going to trim the end of the piston (the end that hits the delrin pad) the thickness that was added by the cushion. All I want to know is if you feel there would be any detriment to doing this as far as mechanics or safety. Thanks PS, if this works as I feel it should, I think that you should offer a shorter piston to your customers with the cushion. Not everyone has a mill, like I do. This would only enhance your well earned (from what I have read) reputation.
  9. Here's a thought - that new Taccom cushion; It looks like it puts just enough length to the buffer to cause the problem. If so, looks like trimming that piston the same amount should solve the problem.
  10. OK, not the spring binding. When I can lock the bolt back (requires me putting the stock on the bench and pulling back hard on the charging handle), I cannot even release the bolt without doing a palm slam against the release. Will call Taccom tomorrow. I don't see why others are not having this problem. BCM AR upper, CMMG lower and bolt. Everything has worked fine through 4 different 9mm length buffers and a variety of springs. It's not as though you can assemble the Taccom buffer wrong. Can you?
  11. Well, got to try out my Taccom buffer today. I compared it to my current setup: 20.2 oz. BCG plus buffer weight, flat wound carbine spring, buffer has moving weights for dead blow effect. The good: Softest shooting buffer I have tried. Very noticeable over my current (and best) setup. I have not tried hydraulic or JP. Dot movement seemed about the same as my current setup. With more comparison time and and measurement, I may revise that. The bad: Extremely hard to lock back the bolt. I could feel the setup bottom out and still had a hard time. I ended up loading to a closed bolt and racking the slide to chamber most of the time. LRBHO did not work. It could be the spring binding or the setup is a little too long. I used the Taccom spring provided and their cushion. I am going to shoot again with my normal flat wound carbine spring, which I know doesn't bind. If that doesn't work, a call to Taccom. Seems it would be easy to shorten the rod, but I will talk to them before making any modifications myself. I do like the softer shooting, even though my normal setup is not what I would call harsh.
  12. Maybe I am misunderstanding. You have the CMMG Guard upper and lower and you put on a JB welded Taccom ramp? How does that figure in your build? The CMMG Guard upper/lower combination does not use a ramp.
  13. What's with the post office? My buffer was delivered on Christmas day, the 24th. Now everything is drying with my favorite dry lube, Eezox. This stuff is amazing and now the only thing I use. The carbon basically just wipes off when I clean. I should be out tomorrow to shoot and report.
  14. Got an email this morning with a USPS tracking number, 2 day delivery. Which means probably Tuesday or Wednesday with the Holiday. Will be interesting to compare with my AR9 setup and Guard. I'll be sure to report. I would still like to shoot an MPX. I'll have to check out my fellow PCC shooters at the next match I enter. Someone in Las Vegas should be shooting one.
  15. So, that would bring up Guard specific questions. What would doubling the weight of a guard buffer do? What would lightening a Taccom buffer do? Inquiring minds want to know.
  16. OK, guess I have to try this in my AR9, will order today. The Guard uses a carbine buffer (3.0 oz.) and carbine spring. I wonder what the difference would be if there was a TACCOM buffer specifically for the Guard?
  17. Tim, does your buffer use a carbine spring? I am not partial to the heavier springs.
  18. Hi Tim, I bought a Guard 9mm, basic 16" barrel rifle last month. Slapped on a Vortex Venom that night and sighted it in to be abou 3/4" high at 15 yards (Range limited distance). This usually gives me a 25 yard zero. I was really impressed by the accuracy. The next day I entered a dynamic steel shoot. Zero malfunctions, Glock mags were great. The only thing is compared to my AR9 (10.5" barrel, AL pinned linear comp and extremely light hand guard), I wasn't moving as fast from target to target. I love the way their lowers are milled for the Glock mags. So I ordered a pistol barrel, BCG and lower from them. Still waiting for delivery. So, do you have any results from your testing? The Guard uses a carbine buffer (3.0 oz.) and carbine spring. Are you planning something specific for the Guard with your buffer system?
  19. Anyone that has a comparison of the Taccom two-stage with buffer versus a hydraulic, I would like to know your thoughts. I want to try a hydraulic, but can't seem to pull the trigger. Looking for less dot movement for double taps. (Response from Tim also welcome.) Currently I am using a 20 oz total BCG plus buffer. Buffer has moveable weights. This is the best setup I have used so far. I have an Colt AR9.
  20. And then pics of the ledge stopping the mags from over insertion.
  21. I have no illusions of becoming a PCC master. I'm just going to get better at reloads.
  22. Agree. It's easy to align the top rail with a level if you need to. Once you tighten the handguard it shouldn't move.
