  1. So, looking at this, it really seems slick. It replaces a dedicated Colt type lower or insert. The ejector and feed ramp is in the magazine insert. I guess making it work with a CMMG Guard would depend where the ammo sits when loaded.
  2. I agree. You should know hold overs anyway. They certainly aren't difficult.
  3. Call your bolt manufacturer and ask what triggers will work with their bolt. I'm sure they will tell you of a cheaper mil-spec type of trigger. I was pleasantly surprised by the mil-spec trigger that came with my CMMG Guard. Nice break, reset and not a heavy pull. On the other hand, I have a POF trigger with a chosen pull of 4.5 lbs. I like this pull for many reasons, one of which is that it is very similar to my stock PPQ pistols. I love the POF trigger. But when trading PCCs with a fellow competitor with a 2.5 lb trigger pull, he complained how bad my trigger was. In firing his PCC, I could tell no difference that would cause me to go to a 2.5 lb trigger. Shooting a PCC is much different to me than shooting precision rifle. And, like my pistols, I try to pull straight back with just enough pull to break the trigger. I have no problem with any weight trigger, but like a great break and reset. There are good mil-spec triggers that have a good break and reset. But in the end, to each his own.
  4. What is your total setup? If you go over about 4" in total buffer stack, your LRBHO will not work. The Blitz is 4" and the normal buffer is 3.25", usually used with a spacer or other things.
  5. FWIW I only shoot brass and use Eezox, a dry lube, for my CLP. I have a KynSHOT light hydraulic buffer and a flat wound carbine spring. I am getting their regular hydraulic buffer for comparison on the Guard and my last Colt type AR9 (which will need a spacer). I built with the CMMG barrel, bolt and lower and a BCM clearanced upper. I shoot off-the-shelf Fiocchi 115g. I tried an MPX at a carbine class and to me, there was not a noticeable difference in shooting, except for our choice in triggers. I have had none of the experiences you have had with your Guard. I took the 3 day carbine class at TPC, about 500 rounds a day for 3 days without a malfunction. I cleaned and lubed each night after class. I say this just for added information to those that are thinking of getting a Guard. If I build any more PCCs, so far 7, they will be Guard based. The information in this thread is good to know if I start to have any of the problems you experienced. BTW, thank you cking for the information on the hydraulic buffer on the Guard! It really worked well for my combination. ?
  6. FWIW, there are sales on the POF triggers that are under $120.
  7. I can see your problem is that your bolt is too clean. No wonder you are having problems! ?
  8. I put the POF in about 6 Colt type builds plus one Guard. Not one problem. I choose the 4.5# trigger because it is close to my pistols. Very nice break and short reset.
  9. Did this only happen with Aluminum casings? I have never run anything but brass.
  10. FWIW, I have not had any of these problems with my CMMG Guard. Does this also happen if your Guard is cleaned and lubed? I would suggest sending your PCC to CMMG. I am currently using a carbine flat spring and a light hydraulic buffer.
  11. You will want about a 1/2" riser with a Venom to get to what is considered a co-witness height. If your height with irons is good for you, the 1/2" riser will be good too.
  12. I hope that some day in the future you can escape. ?
  13. FWIW, I use Magpul 21 round mags in my Guard and have not had any issues.
  14. Do you want to be a better shooter with the Tavor? That would be one of my considerations. That is one of the reasons why I choose an AR platform. Also the reasons I shoot off-the-shelf ammo and "low capacity" mags.
  15. FWIW, I have a friend that can't use red dots if he wears his glasses. But when he changed to a prismatic sight it was perfect.
  16. Personally, I use co-witness heights. My cheek weld is the same for any AR I set up, whether iron, dot or scope. Makes it easy to train for the sights to be on target with everything I build. If I have BUIS, they are of the flip-up type and don't get in the way. Once you figure your offsets, you are good to go. As far as offset between the two, I don't think you will notice that much difference. Far more with what difference you zero at. I zero at 25 yards with 9mm. That said, you probably have a natural cheek weld at some height. Do some cheek welds with your eyes closed and see if you can figure out where it is. You may want to go with that height.
  17. Seems to me that if you by one company's components, you are probably good to go. If you mix and max, you can be good or you may have problems with different tolerances or actual design. After all, there is no mil-spec for 9mm Glock carbines, is there? What is the price difference, a couple hundred dollars?
  18. The Vortex AR riser MT-5108 has a "lock" that prevents this from happening.
  19. I find if you are consistent in your mounting procedure, chances for maintaining zero are very good. I always push forward and down while tightening. Works for me.
  20. I have 4 Vortex AR QR risers and have never had a problem. I don't see if they are mounted properly how they could be loose, let alone fall off. Is the riser mounted/adjusted properly?
  21. Yes, I hear you. I don't like to give up the time to the big mag carriers, but just accept it. I have changed my outlook since I stopped road racing. (I still enjoy winning and I am competitive, but mostly it is how well I feel that I personally do.) I really like the Guard, I hope you get it where you want it. ?
  22. Seems to me that the gun runs right with factory mags and the 41 round mag does not feed properly. If this is the case, I would look at what needs to be changed in the 41 round mag to make it feed like the factory mags. Since I shoot for the love of shooting, I use factory mags and reload if needed. I actually love the reloading part and even starting unloaded. Makes me a better all-around student-of-the-gun.
