  1. My plan for reloading is keeping with dillon products. If I do this, and go with the quik change kit for each caliber, I will end up with a lot of powder charge bars. Question: can we trade them in for other products?
  2. I ordered my 550 with the aluminum roller right off, and after seeing the ball handle I am very glad I did.
  3. I went for the dillon cover for my 550. It would be nice if it covered the trays, but it looks great the way it is.
  4. I like the look of the old one kind of art deco, but the new one works fine.
  5. I have removed live primer using my trusty punch and hammer. I made a jig for my vise, in the garage, to hold the case securly. Case mouth up to the sky, use the punch and hammer, if it did go off the punch might make a hole in the roof. So far no boom, I try to save the brass not the primer.
  6. I just started up reloading again, last time was in the 80's. Now with my trusty p85 I can shoot anything and put it on target. The new plastic guns get a little trickier. M&P full size not a problem, but with the sheild it feeds everything but different factory rounds change the groups big time. So now the dillon 550 is up and running I want to look into the science of shooting a short barrel. At 40 feet (longest shot in my house) I'm at a 12 or less group. With the p85 I can make a 3 inch hole, m&p full size it's around 6" group. 1911 colt 5" well we all know their magic, so no problems there.
  7. To add to your dry fire training, put a coin or bent beer cap on your front sight or barrel and keep it on there thru your full trigger motion.
  8. I am used to loading for a 5". I was looking for info on loads for my S&W sheild, with a 3.1 inch barrel. What would be a good starting point, heavy round low powder or high powder lite round. Corbon +p work nice but I don't want to run +p too much.
  9. I will be shooting tonight, if you don't hear back you will know there is a problem.
  10. I have a nice punch pin and hammer. I made a die to hold the brass in the vise out in the garage. The biggest thing is control of the blast. So far I havent had one pop but you never know.
  11. Well tonight I did my first 100 on the new dillon 550. The biggest problem compared to the old rock chucker was that it was way too easy to kick out a hundred rounds. Had one spent primer fall infront of the primer bar, and one double charge, my fault, but I was using unique in 9mm so it was very easy to notice, due to the powder spill. Other than that it was great!
  12. The wife, not sure about the press yet, still at the restaurant.
  13. My first dillon, a 550 with bells, was supposed to show up today. I called the wife while I was at work to check on it. She said it was a no show, maybe tomarrow. So I get home, kinda bummed out, and there it is! Now she made me take her out to dinner to celebrate, while my poor press is sitting home all alone and unopened. I guess I will have to keep her.
  14. It's not the size of your press, It's how you pull the handle.
  15. I'm sorry, I'm old, but in the days I carried am m16 daily, we use 90 mile an hour tape. OD green duct tape. It also works on bullet holes in helocopters.
  16. I'm old enough to know all about the A1 version. Original ar15/m16 had the 3 prong flash hider. The A1 had the addition of the forward assist and the bird cage flash hider. Now I see people calling, what looks like an A1 bird cage, an A2 flash hider. What is the differance?
  17. I don't shoot a whole bunch of shot gun maybe 1k in a good year. I've had my 12 ga MEC 600jr forever and it has never failed me. I just picked up a lee for 16 ga. Do to the low cost, for low volume standard loads it works. But I have found the MEC is what is needed for custom loads. On the lee load all you have to take it half apart to work on your custom loads. The MEC I just flip the powder shot bottles to the back and drop you powder and shot down the funnel, no tools needed. Since the lee was 1/3 the price of the MEC die set I thought I would give it a shot. You get what you pay for.
  18. This to me seems like a silly question? Brian Enos is the way to go!!!
  19. This is actually the start of zen, loose the stress. Clear your head of all things not about reloading. As others suggested no cell, no radio or music with words or talking. Tell others not to interupt you unless the zombies are attacking. Become one with the press. You are now in zen.
  20. I have dealt with a lot of explosives in my military career. The prefered container no-spark no-static interior (wood with brass hardware). Outside strong to control blast, the top should be loose or weak enough to blow off from blast. This way you will not stop the problem but control it to the point of keeping damage to a minimum. And always store detonator and charge far from each other.
