  1. Wow!! This is great ... just put on my Samsung Tablet ... punched up some recent classifiers I was waiting to appear ... verified some old ones ... The shooter stats on the website is outstanding as well. Thanks!!

    Cape magwell

There are some over here ... (but it looks like the stainless are out of stock again ...) ... https://www.speedshooter.com/category_list.cfm?ID=MW&Magwells
  3. Yes ... what magwell is that?? It looks like a Dawson Ice but the STI version not the Para version.
  4. Never mind ... (glad to see they are making an 8 shot version now).
  5. That's what I did ... I use the regular Lee short/long 3 die set and added a 38/357 FCD ... just adding a spacer on top of the crimping sleeve so it would reach. If you buy a 38/357 FCD you can also pickup just the 9mm crimping sleeve for $3 and use that as the spacer on top of the 38/357 sleeve ... or vice/versa ... to experiment and see what you prefer (saves buying another whole FCD just to get the sleeve out of it). http://leeprecision.com/crimp-sleeve-9mm.html (available other places too ... just an example).
  6. Congratulations to all that participated!! I was looking at the results on the Rio website and it shows 7 of the 60 revolver shooters got DQed??!? (11.5% .. ) Wow ... Were these 180s on a particular stage or something else common for the majority of DQs?? edit: as opposed to what appears to be only 10 of 260+ shooters for the SS folks ...

    para springs

    +1 Also ... I have had no problem using a 15lb hammer/main spring. (Pro Custom 16.40) ...
  8. It may be that the additional hammer tension (which also "just happens" to increase trigger pull weight) is providing enough extra resistance against reward case movement during ignition (increasing confinement during burn time) that is the culprit. There is all kind of stuff going on ... case expansion in the cylinder ... bullet movement ... and reward case movement and we can turn a screw to impact the last one. This seems more likely than blaming the primer as being impact sensitive (or being solely responsible anyhow). Hey!! It could happen!! (IMHO)
  9. Wow!! That seems like a lot ... but ... last year a friend showed up at the range with a new XDM ... and a bunch of his "new" loads for the gun. First shot fired just fine but then the gun would not quite go into battery ... encouraging the slide (to move forward) didn't accomplish anything ... it seemed locked ... I got a good hold of it and pulled back firmly and the case came out "without" a bullet in it. The bullet had gotten bit by the rifling in the barrel and it pulled right out of the case (of course ... my friends reloading prowess may have also extended to the firmness of the crimp on that batch). Anyhow ... over the course of trying to shoot about 50 of these the gun pulled the bullets out of about 10 of them. The balance went back home to be seated deeper. I would say you found our brass except his was a 9mm and we picked them all up.
  10. Same here!! Did the same as you and ended up with the same washer (a little wave washer). Can't find anywhere to put it.
  11. I have a 5" 627 ... but earlier this month (at our monthly ICORE match) I was on a squad with a fellow shooting a 929. I noticed it and asked him about his loads and he told me he was shooting 38 short colts just like I was. This is all he shoots in his 929 (160s at 1.16). He said they reloaded just fine ... and he preferred using short colts because the rim made it easier to grab and hold on to than the 9mm. I am pretty sure I have seen some others here mention the same thing (that the short colts reload just fine w/o any special attention). This kinda lit my fuse because "now" I was sorry I didn't jump on that 6.5 inch barrel and ti cylinder ... (or course ... a backup gun is never a bad idea ...)
  12. As far as classification goes ... a Limited classification "must" be a classification for all Limited shooters ... Limited 6 or otherwise. If we do anything else ... (like give Limited 6 it's own classification) ... then we would have to accept that "all" current Limited classifications are dirty (as they are contaminated with Limited 6 scores) and must be thrown out. This would mean that we would have to re-establish a fresh classification database based on input from scores associated by division. Limited 6 is a competitive equalizer for match results ... not classification. All Limited guns are on even ground when shooting a classifier. edit: IMHO ...
  13. I had been watching these for a long time ... and when the prices started dropping earlier in the year I jumped on one ... (a 16.40 in May) ... now ... I see them for almost $100 less than I paid ... but ... I don't care ... I love this gun. It has taken me this long to get a rig setup and the gun ready to shoot Limited. I did the usual ... put a 15lb mainspring in ... 14lb recoil spring ... big fat mag release button etc etc ... and recently slid in the EGW tungsten that I had been running in my Rock Island ... that alone left the trigger pull at 4.5 untouched and I touched the sear spring a tad for an easy 3lb. I picked up two SPS 3011 mags ... one MBX and put Dawson extenders on the two factory mags. I even adjusted the lips on a 45 mag ... put one of the original factory basepads on it and it holds 16 rds and makes a great mag when you have to do one of those "shoot a few and a mandatory reload" routines. All the others hold 20 reloadable easy ... (but the factory /w Dawsons are a tad long to be legal for a USPSA match ... so they are "steel" mags .. and they hold 17 easy with the original basepads on them anyhow ... if you did want to use them). I only have a little over 500 rounds on the gun at this time ... while making sure everything is 100% and finalizing loads. As you can see .... there isn't a mark on the gun ... (love the finish too). For me ... this is the nicest "out of the box" (new) firearm "I" have ever bought ... I was impressed (honestly!! ... however ... YMMV). There are a bunch of parts at Sarco ... and plenty of aftermarket out there (may put Dawson ICE on later or one of those Cape monsters from Speed Shooter for cosmetics/fun). http://www.e-sarcoinc.com/para-ordnance.aspx You know ... for the money ... I would have to say ... get one!!
  14. Like Peter … I changed out my strain screws for a hex screws … I got a pack from McMaster Carr … with the little nylon lock thingie … and use loctite on them too. (McMaster part 90251A194 Thread-Locking Cup Point Set Screw, 18-8 Stainless Steel, 8-32 Thread, 1/2" Length, packs of 25). To tell the truth … if I were ordering those again I would get them slightly longer as the nylon lock insert moves out of it's usefulness on the 627 (have to screw in farther to get the desired mainspring tension). I have done my 627 and model 10 … and for friends … an older 627 (vcomp) as well as a model 66 and 19 (both with hammer mounted firing pins). Every one has been done the same way and all have gotten under 6lbs. All the hammer mounted firing pin guys got factory bobbed hammers off Ebay … and we just polished them up and clearanced them a bit so we could run washers on both sides (these guys will bust primers at a much lower tension than the frame mounted versions … 627s) (for me anyhow). My 627 got an Apex and my friend bobbed his own factory hammer (hey!! It wasn't my gun!!) … The biggest tips for me came from this site and especially from http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=182744 See pskys2's entry about the hammer pull weight and rebound spring. He is right on the hammer pull weight for the 627s anyhow (36-40oz) .. (the hammer mounted firing pin guns will bust primers at several oz lighter) … but setting that tension on your mainspring (I just used the Wolf ribbed spring … although my 627 came with one in it … and I probably wasted the money) plus doing the rebound spring will get it done for you. Warning … don't test for primer failures with loose rounds in the 627 … "use a moonclip!!!!". Both of our 627s would get an occasional failure under 7lb loading them loose (just saying … cause it was making us crazy). You can use a 11lb rebound spring but you will get an extra 3/4-1lb trigger pull lighter by trimming the two coils off like pskys2 says … (run a cone up the inside of the trimmed side to make sure you don't leave a sharp edge that will dig into the rebound spring rod). I got a pack of 11lb rebound springs at Brownells … 969-000-033WB (that's right!! … a pack of 10 … don't fool around!!). I swear … if you do this you will get under 6lbs easy … my 627 is running at 5 1/2 lbs and my friends at 5 3/4 … the model 19 is at 6lbs even (because the owner "was scared" and wanted "a safe margin") (you should have seen his face the first time he pulled the trigger) … My model 10 is running at 4 3/4 lbs (and it never ever fails to bust a federal). There are lots of things you can do but the cut rebound spring info from that thread really did it for me. It works and leaves a very dependable reset IMHO (if the rest of your work is clean). The lightweight rebound spring that comes with the Apex kit is even lighter and I couldn't get my gun (at the time) to where it felt good to me (may revisit that). The medium spring that comes with the Apex gave the same readings as an uncut 11lb spring. (you "can" measure the trigger pull without the hammer and mainspring installed if you want to evaluate "individual" rebound springs). Use a good measurement tool to measure your hammer tension (free pull) (I use one of those RCBS trigger pull gauges … looks like a mini fish sc ale .. Measures 0-72oz) and use a decent trigger pull gauge … like a Lyman electronic or such). There are those on this forum with greater skill, talent and experience that can do this in their sleep … give you more dependability along with a super trigger pull … BUT … hey!! … it is the "journey" that is the most fun … and all the answers are in here somewhere.
  15. I think we (I) got it ... But we (I) are/am saying ... a classification in "Limited" is a classification that is good for "Limited 6" or "Limited 8" ... or heck ... even if you are shooting a 986 (a 7 rounder that would unfortunately have to shoot "regular" Limited in a match) ... If you have a classification in Limited you are classified w/ a non-optic (or anything else that would throw you into Open) moon clip gun ... w/o regard to how many rounds were attached. I think!! edit: I have a "C" (sniff) classification in Limited ... today... (using my 627) ... I think if I stepped out to my next match (after Jan 1, 2016) with a 625 ... I could shoot in Limited 6 and already be classified!!
  16. It will be interesting to see how they handle that ... but ... I don't think there are any classifiers where it makes any difference if you are shooting 6 or 8 ... unless you make a case that there might be an advantage (handling/reloading) one over the other ... it seems that "Limited" (moonclip) classifications could stand as they are. Why would "Limited" classifications have to be split into sub-divisions?? ...Wow ... now you have me wondering what "they" are thinking about that too ... hmmmm). edit: just correcting some of my poor(est) grammar/spellling
  17. ... exactly!! ... also ... I wonder if this will division will just collect (existing) 625s ... or if some might actually try L/K guns cut for moons?? (though it seems unlikely they would reload as fast as a 45). At any rate ... this should boost 625 resale value.
  18. Warren ... those are blue bullets ... 147gr .358 ... They are seated at 1.17 in the cases in those photos. http://www.thebluebullets.com/Default.asp Actually ... I have ordered them twice now and (random checked) they all weighed in at 149.5 - 150 grains ...
  19. I have been using the revolver supply clips ... the .025 nickle plated ... for federal 38 special cases. They have been pretty good for that and are cheap enough to have enough to shoot a whole steel challenge match without having to pull out the mooner. Recently ... I have (finally) started loading short colts and there is definitely more movement with the starline brass in these clips than with federal ... but ... they work OK. I am however looking forward to starting a primary supply of the Hearthco for regular matches. I get 14 loaded clips in a CD cake box and that is enough to shoot most local matches. In the photos (starline on RS .025 nickle) I slid the clips over a plastic tube so as "not" to touch any of the case rims ... (of course ... you can only see so much with the photo). edit: sorry ... straying way off topic here ... sigh ...
  20. I have a 16.40 that is fairly new ... I bought it earlier this year. I use 2 SPS, 1 MBX and the two factory mags that came with it. I did change out the mag release to get one with a threaded extension. However ... I lucked out and also had an opportunity to order some STI mags for a friend and a chance to compare how they seated and released in the Para. I removed the magazine release so I could see how the windows lined up with the release hole and they lined up as perfectly with the STI as with the other mags. Seating and release of the STI mags was just as crisp as with the other magazines and they did not hang down lower that the others (which the "higher" mag release is supposed to fix ... as I had heard). What I did notice was ... if you had the slide open and firmly pushed on the STI mags to overseat ... you could get them to duck/wedge inside the ejector and hang slightly ... because they are thinner at the top than the regular Para mags. I also noticed ... if you always seated the mags with the slide closed (as some STI sites recommend) and bullets in the magazines ... then there was no chance of over insertion. My (3011) SPS mags take any guts (spring/follower/base pad) offered for STI magazines (I have Grams 4mm bases and the 11 coil spring/follower in both and both at 20 reloadable). The MBX is easy 20 and the two factory mags have even a little extra room 20+ but are a hair long for the gauge with the Dawson extensions on them (but great for steel matches). I didn't actually shoot with the STIs ... they weren't mine but they look like they would work OK if you wanted to use them. If your 16.40 is recent who knows ...
