  1. Yep ... is true!! Mine .. the one in the photo above (purchased last year) was listed as a "Para Ord Pro Custom 18.9 - Black - N/A - Right Hand (HOLX000815165908)" ... Didn't actually see a listing for a 16.40 at the time ... but same thing. It (the Para) also fit great in an old Blackhawk 1911 holster I had but spread out the Comp-Tac 1911.
  2. Here's something ... http://www.pennbullets.com/38/38-caliber.html edit: slide down the page to the "thunderhead" bullets ...
  3. You didn't say major/minor (unless I missed it) ... I have a minor load too ... my favorite ... kinda soft but reliable ... clean ... legal pf ... 3.3gr Bullseye - 180 plated (Bullet Works or Xtreme) - 1.15 oal - averages 117 (129pf) with an 11 sd out of my 5" M&P core (13lb recoil spring) ... Goes a little faster out of the 5" Para and I used to use it for steel but one of my friends complained that he could see it flying towards the steel and shamed me into boosting the pf.
  4. I'm running a Blade-Tech with the Boss hanger for my Para 16-40 pro custom. I originally picked up a Comp-Tac but it didn't really fit properly at the top of the grip.
  5. I had a similar problem with my Para 16-40 and two SPS magazines ... your's sounds similar. Changing the mag springs resolved my problem. The extractor behind the case was the tip off to look for inertia feed ... When the slide would fly back (near the end of capacity on either of these two mags) ... the next round would dislodge from the magazine and lay there until the slide came forward and tried to push it into the chamber ... all was well except the gun would not go into battery with the extractor parked behind the case rim. I fooled with this for a long time ... originally practically eliminating the problem by adding a recoil spring buffer and a stiffer recoil spring ... It all made sense after fixing the problem (the extreme "whack" of the slide was encouraging the top round to pop out of the weak springed mags ... the buffer and stronger spring simply masked the real problem). I have seen some also state that they put a more "nose-up" bend at the top of the mag spring to keep the front of the follower pushing back on the top round.
  6. I have two loads right now that I have been using with bullseye powder ... (in a Para 16-40 pro custom / 5 inch barrel etc) ... First one (actually makes major) - 4.0gr with 180 blue bullets at 1.15oal - avg 949 / 170pf with 16.51sd Second one (use for steel and such ... not worked up to major yet) - 4.2gr with 180 extreme or bullet works plated at 1.15oal - avg 881 / 158pf with 21sd I am planning on working the plated load up to major but looks like it is going to need 5gr of powder to get it there and just haven't gotten back to it yet.
  7. I use a regular bladetech but love this photo from speedbees ... one of these days ...
  8. He could (might already) have a solid barrel for CO use ... but ... that trigger wouldn't work for Carry Optics.
  9. Oh .. OK ... I was confused by the "every cylinder" comment. Not extreme spread (ES) ... standard deviation (SD) is the value the guy was doubling (in the article ... anyone can see the article in the "FrontSight" archives on the USPSA website). But ... if your average was 122 ... then at least one round had to be over 120 and that is all you need (easier than a 3 round average was all I was saying). You are right ... better safe than sorry. Check it out ... page 70 ... http://www.uspsa.org/frontsight_archive/a/2015-01.pdf
  10. What?? Remember ... In ICORE ... (per the rulebook) ... they take 6 rounds and only "one" round has to make the 120 power factor. Only one!! In USPSA they take 3 ... and if those don't make it they take 3 more ... and then if necessary take the 3 highest pf bullets of the entire 6 to see if they can make it. There was a nice article in the Jan/Feb 2015 USPSA mag ... about making PF and for a 10% failure rate you would add 2 times the SD ... so if your SD was 15 ... you would add 30(fps) to the required velocity to make the pf. In your case that would be 120000/200 = 600 (required fps) ... add 30 (600+30) now 630 x 200 / 1000 = 126 ... ... but ... you only have to have "one" bullet make 120 so you really wouldn't need that ... but if they are really all over the place ... (high sd) ... that would be a consideration.
  11. Yes ... you're right. I thought it would make a nice alternative to the full lug 686 6" or 4" ... plus get the spring loaded classic front sight ... ... and ... It seemed (to me at first) it would be easy like swapping the 6 and 7 round cylinders in the 686/686+ (with an opportunity to sell your light weight cylinder to a plus guy) but after taking a good look at the photos I can see the 9mm 986 cylinder is much shorter and there is a lot more barrel extending back into the frame (a lot of trouble for little gain I suppose).
  12. Buy an Apex for $150 or so ... (checking again) ... have seen them for $138-142 ish. When you are tired of it I will buy it from you for $100 ... and/or should be no problem moving it. That is likely less than it would cost to buy a new factory hammer to cut and leave the original un-molested (for single action or whatever). edit: but ... really like your bobbed arrangement photos ... (post #14) ... (did not realize you wanted to keep SA at the same time ... my bad ...).
  13. That would be a cool L6/Classic gun with a 6 round cylinder. "I" assume you can put a 686 cylinder in it ??!? Someone "must" have done this ...
  14. I had the Dawson extended base pads on my two magazines (that came in the box with my 16.40). Even tried them with the Arredondo spring/follower in there (which I could jam every once and a while ... going salt shaker) so I put the stock guts back in. Other than not getting the Arredondo sorted out so I wouldn't jam it when trying to force too many rounds in it ... either spring follower combo worked fine. The problem ... (at least for both of mine) was that they were just a tad to long to fit into the 140 length gauge (EGW gauge). I put the Arredondo spring/follower back in with the factory basepads and use them as utility mags (so they don't lock back ... and primarily for stages where you have mandatory reloads after a short round count etc). I can't imagine ever being checked at a match ... but ... mine aren't legal 140s with those extensions on there so I don't use them. I have other 140 match mags that fit the gauge. Found an old photo with the Dawsons installed on the factory mags ... I'll put one back on and take a picture with the mag in the gauge if I get a chance here in a min ... OK ... here it is ... with the Arredondo spring/follower combo and the Dawson ... sitting in the mag gauge ...
  15. Open makes some sense. But on the reload ones, maybe Limited or even Production until there are enough. Unless I missed something very big somewhere (and that is entirely possible) ... you (I) would think there would have to be a review of most of the classifiers to determine where special instructions need to be added in order to accommodate PCC. As an example ... how about El Pres ?? (facing up range) ... Where exactly are they going to be pointing the carbine?? Will one hand be above shoulders and the other pointing the carbine to the rear of the shooter?? Will some matches allow them to start facing downrange?? As a worse example ... how about something like 03-11 El Strong and Weak Pres (turn 2 each ... reload and 2 each strong/weak hand ... ) If this "isn't" done ... then how can a match be planned to have a classifier that is suitable for all participants?? and/or assure that all PCC competitors are playing on the same field?? Nothing impossible and I am not complaining ... just actually thinking about this now that the PCC division has appeared in the classifier results on the USPSA page ... edit: Yep!! ... there you go ... I - did miss - something because I skimmed over all the responses to this thread ... (as already mentioned ...they "are" editing the classifiers) ... but it is still going to be very interesting to see the end result!!
  16. It was taking up too much space ... they just changed it to "PCC" ... take another look now ...
  17. How about an "airsoft" replica ... don't put pellets in it if you don't want ... the slide will still blow back etc ... http://www.evike.com/products/47404/
  18. Stop it!! Stop it!! Here ... take my money!!
  19. I don't remember running into a stage yet where prone wasn't the "last" position (or only position) ... but ... I went to a match with a friend one time and when he noticed the "prone" stage he started complaining as loudly ... declaring he was going to go home ... stomping around ... etc ... etc .... This was a stage where you "made ready" in the prone position and finished the stage in the prone position. I asked him to hold on until we could speak to the MD. When we spoke to the MD he continued to act enraged and declared it was impossible for him to go prone ... no way ... The MD calmly asked him ... "what?? don't you ever go to bed or lie down to sleep??" ... My friend said "of course" he could lie down ... just couldn't get up very fast. The MD said ... "you just get down there ... and we will worry about getting you up" ... After shooting the stage ... clearing his gun and placing it "safe" on the provided pad he was promptly whipped into an upright position when about 4 squad members got a hold of his arms and belt. I have never heard another peep out of him about prone stages.
  20. I carry a brush ... but try really hard to keep the "big" mags from getting dirty ... When a reload allows it I will slap a discard mag on my belt magnet to keep it from hitting the ground. You are right ... you can only have so many (expensive ... big ..) mags in your bag. On my two bad actor mags ... I could load them up ... and then tap them lightly and watch the bullet at the top start creeping forward. Not a shock that one would pop out if the slide retraction got really violent. The nose up attitude on the follower works at pushing them back against the wall where they belong.
  21. It sounds like this is what I had happen with two SPS mags when my Para 16.40 was new. Everything would be going along fine and all of the sudden (usually mid-mag) the slide would not go into battery ... I would pull the slide back and there would be a round underneath the extractor (normal) but another "unfired" round in front of it ... in the chamber. The tip off for me was that both rounds were unfired. After checking around ... I found a thread on this forum talking about inertia feed. The first thing I did when the gun was new was put a lighter mainspring and recoil spring in the gun. What was happening was when the slide would come back a round would pop out of the magazine and sit there ... when the slide came forward it would pick up a fresh round from the mag and try to chamber it ... but the extra unfired round was in front of it and blocked it. This would only happen on my two SPS mags and only once per full mag sometimes (my two factory mags and one MBX never displayed the problem). Following advise I found here (I think someone already said "tune your mags") I bent the top of the spring so that the follower was pointing "up" at the front and have not had the problem since. While I was fooling around initially trying to fix this I put the factory recoil spring back in along with a shock buffer and longer OAL ... and that suppressed the problem ... after finding the real solution and changing the attitude of the followers (make them nose up) on the two errant mags ... that was no longer necessary. (but I kept the longer ammo OAL).
  22. I started using this one (attached pdf) because the circle borders are much thicker (and wow ... this drill has shown me how important it is to "really" clamp down with the grip). http://pistol-training.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/6x2in-circles.pdf
