  1. Normally MG ammo has crimped primers to reduce the likely hood of the primer moving under the forces. I believe they may have harder primer cups to prevent slam fires. I am referring to NATO spec 5.56 ammo. Now how much difference this will make for limited use is unknown.
  2. I prefer grease because oil tends to migrate sometimes away from where you want it. Grease is thicker and tends to stay put. But it has a tendency to collect more dirt.
  3. For competition I like CR Speed. Not sure if that fits with what you are calling Target shooting. http://www.shootersconnectionstore.com/CR-Speed-Versa-Mag-Pouch-P197.aspx For daily carry Desaintis make some good stuff that is reasonably priced. I'm partial to leather for daily carry. Guess I'm old fashioned. http://www.desantisholster.com/F-T-U-MAGAZINE-POUCH http://www.desantisholster.com/KYDEX-SINGLE-MAG-POUCH
  4. Might help to know if this is for daily carry or competition?
  5. I'd be very happy with a .5 MOA. My last barrel was a turd so I am swapping it out for a Rainier 16 inch middy in 223 Wylde, one of the Rock Creek blanks with the 5R rifling. I am hoping the 1 MOA guarantee means that it will shoot much better than that.
  6. Dang nice prices, much cheaper than local. To bad hazmat shipping costs so much on it.
  7. That's exactly what I did to get by till I decide on a trigger. JP reduced springs and with the Anderson hammer which is bobbed, added a set screw and it is a crisp 5 pounds. Not as light as I would like but I'll take it for the cost. I was surprised it did not come in lighter but the factory Anderson weight to start with was 8.5 pounds. I've been looking hard at the flat CMC but I do like the set screw setup on the Timney's. To bad CMC does not have that feature.
  8. No I have not done anything with the pre travel yet. I'd go with one of the aftermarket triggers to accomplish that.
  9. True I was thinking reduced but they are extra power springs. I tried one but dumped it quickly.
  10. Definitely stay with the stock return spring, the reduced ones are barely capable of resetting in some cases.
  11. I've got both the Rocket and Evo and I prefer the Rocket but each is a personal preference. Rest on both is similar. With both I was able to get the trigger to about 3.5 pounds. Check the pressure the connector is placing against the trigger bar. Both of mine needed a tweak to get the pull down as they were pressing to much to the side. Check the outward bend angle of the connector. This is done by sliding a piece of (.003 or standard 20 lb paper) paper between the connector and the top portion of the trigger mechanism housing. The paper should slide through with a little resistance. If the paper does not slide through then the connector needs to removed and bent out ever so slightly. If it slides through with no resistance the connector needs to be removed and bent in ever so slightly.
  12. I picked up a Para Pro 14.45 after I had a problem with a Expert and had issues. They eventually bought back the expert since they could not get it fixed. Parts are a problem for them and if any issues it will take at least 6 months to repair and don't expect it to be repaired correctly. From my experience it's a bad situation right now. But knowing that when I picked up my 14.45 I did not intend to let them fix it and it has a sear problem. I planned on redoing it myself so I got it anyway. No matter what the press release says parts are a issue and for now at least the double stacks are dead. New mags are not available from them either. Now wether the situation will change in the future there is no telling. But for now Remington has essentially killed Para.
  13. I switched to this Hornaday case lube. It was cheap and goes much further than one shot. Also check how much you are setting the shoulder back. You may need to adjust your die up some. You want it to size the neck and just bump the shoulder in most cases. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/758495/hornady-unique-case-lube-4-oz-tub
  14. Well I pulled the trigger on the Ranier today. I guess the guarantee won me over.
  15. I'm running a Nikon P-223 3x9x40 and it's not exactly calibrated at 200,300 etc. Mine is at strange distances like 220, 320 etc... If you look at their Spot on website you can see what it would be for your load. http://spoton.nikonsportoptics.com/spoton/spoton.html#:4
  16. I'm running a Stoner comp similar to the Miculek with a adjustable gas block with a AR15 carrier group on a midlength barrel with a carbine buffer. It has little to no movement. A direct comparison to my son in laws gun which is a typical defense gun that runs a heavier M16 carrier and no adjustable gas block and a heavy buffer is this is half the recoil of his and at least half the movement. At 100 yards off a bag without holding down the front end I may have to reset the cross hairs about 1/4 of a inch. To answer your question more directly I do get less movement and it is very smooth and flat. I could probably reduce that if I went with a light weight carrier though. I hardly notice it now though so I didn't feel the added cost of the lighter carrier was worth it.
  17. It looks like the general rule is based on magnified optics are open class. I didn't see any limitations on magazine size if I read it correctly.
  18. Man it's hard to choose which barrel to get. Long story short I got a 16 inch stainless middy that turned out to be bad and returned it. Now I just can't seem to decide on a brand to trust. I was looking at a 16 inch Stainless Ranier Brownell's has that has a 1 MOA guarantee but then I see they are actually made by Black Hole? Looks like the same barrel is available direct but no stated guarantee on accuracy. Another choice in the same price range is a White Oak 16 inch Stainless and google fu seems to say they are good. I keep thinking 16 inch to be handy as I plan on building a long range upper sometime later. But then I think what am I giving up going 16 over the 18 inch. I guess what I am looking for is a short very accurate barrel. Anything I should look at in the $250 range that I am overlooking? For the 55 to 70 grain would the 1:8 be better or would the 1:7 twist? I am thinking the 223 Wylde chamber.
  19. I realize they may be different but I believe they try to stay close.
  20. I am not sure if this is the right place to ask but I was thinking of shooting a carbine only match to get started. Where can I read up on the classes and equipment allowed? I realized my 3x9x40 scope may put me in a class I am not sure I want to be in.
  21. Mega and Sundevil make a billet with a screw for taking out slack below the rear lug. I am looking hard at them for the next build.
  22. You want to stay away from the cheap Chinese "crud" (would have preferred to use a different ending on that word). Without getting real serious a 4 inch might suit your fancy a 3 inch might be on the small side. Check out ebay occasionally you can find some nice ones there. research some decent American made brands like Wilton or Palmgren. When I was looking for a drill press vice I found a nice used Palmgren mill vice for a reasonable price there.
  23. What's everyone favorites for 10 and 20 rounders for shooting from the bench. Been looking to pick up a handful for the range.
