  1. I wanted something shorter for a all around carbine. I just ordered a AR Stoner medium profile 16 inch fluted stainless barrel in 223 Wylde with a intermediate gas system to try with the AR Stoner comp. It seemed like a good middle of the road barrel and there have been some good reviews on it. I'm pairing it with a rifle length hand guard and a low profile gas block. It was available in 18 inch as well but I wanted something a little handier. My last AR years ago was a 20 inch and I always wanted a shorter barrel. I just shot my Son in Laws AR's in 14.5 inch and 16 inch before I made my decision.
  2. It does sound like a magazine spring. Back in the day when I had a 1066 it would do the same thing. I had to replace the mag springs every 9 months.
  3. Some people live in a white or black world, there is no shades of grey for them.
  4. Maybe you ought to try sending out some of the 3d printed ones for evaluation? that would give you some feedback on weather to proceeded or not.
  5. Kinda depends on if you think the G20 fits and shoots better for you than the G22. Might be easier to get magwells for the 22. I have both and went with the 22 for limited.
  6. Just because you got away with it once does not mean it is safe. Me I have 35 years of reloading experience working with wildcat cartridges and pushing things to a safe limit. I still choose to not use aluminum. Mainly because of the material properties it's just not worth the risk. I know how brass reacts, aluminum does not react that way and in a lot of ways is weaker. Who cares of it erodes a chamber or not that is a secondary symptom of a larger problem. One poster showed video of failures upon firing, that lone is a good enough reason to avoid the practice even if it does not make marks in the barrel. I have seen folks who thought something worked once blow up a gun and wondered why. Luckily the friends who did it walked away with small injuries. It just proves some folks just have to learn from the school of hard knocks. I am afraid you my friend are on that path. It doesn't matter if you get your knickers in a knot or not the process is designed for the more forgiving material properties of brass not aluminum and in the long run it's not a good idea.
  7. It's funny, reloading is about how to do things in a safe manner. You have been told for various reasons that reloading aluminum is not safe. Yet all you worry about is weather it erodes a chamber or not. That kind of thinking will lead to an accident.
  8. I went with a 17, seems the benefits of recoil reduction and capacity are better with the 9mm.
  9. I suspect they meant ream the throat which would give a slightly larger leade to chamber slightly longer ammo. Some bullet profiles need a bit more in this area to chamber without interference. Match grade barrels are known to be smaller or tight in tolerances to give better accuracy. But that does make them a bit more finicky. Either way that would only effect before the shot. After the shot you have a empty case that needs extracting. With no bullet it could have 0 leade and have nothing to do with extracting the case. If they open up the chamber that could remove the benefits of the match grade if not done carefully.
  10. Ream the chamber or the throat? They each are different.
  11. Already emailed him, he was unaware. Giving him time to research.
  12. The few times I have seen things like this in other guns it was speculated that there was a overpressure load and/or rough chamber walls resulting in to much friction to extract. While not exactly the same in a couple of shotguns I have confirmed the rough chamber by smoothing it out and having the problem disappear. It was a known issue with that brand of gun.
  13. A truer statement has never been said on this subject. A lot of decision are made on wide safety margins. Just because you "can" cross a safety margin does not mean you should. Sometimes you can get away with a little bit, but push the line a little more and things can get hairy quick. Things like that were why the decision was made to keep a distance from that threshold. Aluminum does not have the same spring back nor workability characteristics as brass. Sure it may work a time or two and then fail in a spectacular fashion instead of giving the signs of fatigue we are used to with brass. I would not want to take the chance when brass is easy enough to get.
  14. It's for a Drop Free and it's on a new Gen 4 mag.
  15. I emailed TF and they were unaware of any fit issues. No one has any pictures of how they modified these to fit?
  16. IDPA rules just completely turned me off. They seem to bring on this type of silly behavior.
  17. It may be a older gen 3 magwell since i bought it used, it's got the brass weight and not the black ones they sell now. But no the G22 frame makes no difference since I used to run a 9mm conversion with the 17 mags without issues.
  18. I ordered a Taylor Freelance +10 extension to try out for the Open Glock 17 I am building. I haven't gotten the magwell for it yet though I planned to get a Dawson Ice to match my Limited G22. Luckily I tried the fit in my 22 and the extension won't fit. For the life of me I can see if it's to tall or the sides need more bevel. I've read several have had to dremel to get this combo to work. I've got a buddy with a Mill so if we can figure out where and how much to take off It would be a easy job on the mill. If you've gotten this combo to work with some dremeling can you post a picture of your work so maybe it will help me figure out where to modify mine?
  19. Taking a barrel out of another gun is not a good idea. You have to fit the barrel to each gun for best results. They will need to fit a new barrel if the old one can be reamed. When you say long chamber do you mean the throat or the head spacing? Folks like long throats for 9 major but they should still head space the same.
  20. Depends on what is wrong. Take the barrel out and drop one of your loaded rounds in to the chamber to see if they fit fully without interference. It could be the throat is shorter and may require a shorter OAL.
  21. If I remember right the foul out was sort of a reverse electroplating. Depending on if you wanted to remove lead or copper you might have to use a different solution. Might be worth investigating the electroplating process and reversing it. all you need is some solution, possibly a cathode of a sort depending on what you are removing and a low voltage power source. The chemistry would have to be right.
  22. Because me and 1911's don't get along. I spend more time with them at the smith's than anything else. Got a new one that now needs either a new safety fitted or sear because something changed after 400 rounds. There is not a Smith around here that can get to it in the next 6 months. Besides for some reason when I pull a Glock trigger the sights actually settle, with a 1911 it seems the opposite.
