  1. NROI ruling ref magazine releases: Note that an internal modification to a magazine-release mechanism which results in shifting the magazine-release laterally (i.e., making the part stick out further on one side of the gun) would be considered an “internal modification”, and is allowed.
  2. The smooth part of the fracture surface (lower right on the right side piece) is a fatigue crack, the granular surface is a fast fracture from when the pin failed. In theory we should be able to inspect the pin and find the fatigue crack before it fails in use.
  3. Springer Precision makes mounts
  4. Curious, what makes you say it'll never compare to the ACCU setup?
  5. The picture I posted is from a gun I got two months ago. The guide rod does not have a bevel. Don't know if that helps or not.
  6. Yep, there's a reason NVGs are green and most car dash backlighting is a greenish color.
  7. Fairly normal to bevel a 1911 guide rod. Don't know why that didn't occur to me. Back to the old "always file on the cheaper part" truism.
  8. That's the spare barrel that came with, it hasn't been in the gun but it's supposedly pre-fit. You can see some machine marks in the radius portion of the barrel however, they run from just next to the notch all the way to the actual barrel. It looks like they used a relatively large diameter cutter to fit the radius. From other pictures I've seen there doesn't actually appear to be substantially more material, rather the redesign is the large radius to reduce stress risers.
  9. The ones without the slide stop part? Figured they'd be cut out of bar stock or something. EDIT: I meant the slide release paddle. The slide stop part being required and all....
  10. CZ makes pins for the TS frame. They're listed under the Czechmate on their website.
  11. It's not really that hard to point the muzzle at the ground/up, walk back to the start point and drop it into a bag. If a club wanted to put a rack at each bay, it would be just as easy to keep it pointed straight up and re-rack it. Neither scenario needs to have people getting flagged by muzzles. Squad all the carbine shooters together and make them carry each others bags if that'll keep things moving.
  12. It started after 30k rounds, so something is worn.
  13. Not really surprising considering there were people shooting already that didn't know it was a thing. Then there's the non-existent promotion of the sport at local gun stores. The only thing most folks know about USPSA (IPSC really) is what they see on youtube, national level shooters going really fast. It's intimidating, and not representative of a local match at all. I had been shooting casually for years before I went to my first match, afterwards I thought I should have have done this years ago. Just cranking out new division isn't going to bring in new shooters, but being able to shoot a gun you like (for whatever reason) is a step. For me the final push was buying the nice 1911 I had always wanted and a reloading press. But I had everything I really needed long before. The organization needs to reach out to get that new shooter to their first match. If they're not hooked after that it, was never going to happen.
  14. If USPSA wants to grow as some say then the focus needs to be attracting younger shooters. Those younger shooters grew up playing video games with dots on guns. Manufacturers are making dot ready guns, so unless all of their marketing and research departments are inept it's going to be a thing. Not having a place for "the new hotness" to play is a guarantee those buyers won't shoot their new guns in USPSA. There's obviously also a pretty severe public outreach problem when it comes to the sport. The average Joe at the local gun store thinks you need to be some sort of shooting god or hobby gunsmith before you can go to "a competition," instead of just going and having fun.
  15. I know I've perpetuated and been a part of that discussion else where here, so I apologize for any confusion. But at the end of the day I think it's ultimately a design problem with high round counts and major PF. I think a lighter comp would probably help, all else being equal. But again it's probably just lipstick rather than an actual "fix." Keep in mind at least one person here has broken a TS barrel, so the comp isn't the root cause. The corner on the front side of the "peanut" causes a stress rise, which is where it's breaks according to pictures and posts here. The newer TS/CM barrels have a larger radius to address the issue. I haven't broken a barrel yet on the new design, but I'm only up to around 1k rounds. I'll certainly share if I do break the new designed barrel. I'm sure KneelingAtlas will be along with better wrench turning options once the left coast wakes up but options seem to be: -run minor -attempt to mitigate the problem (light weight comp, firing pin stop angle, etc) -get a TS barrel with the newer design and have it threaded
  16. I found the polymer frame dragging on the hammer causing light strikes with "normal" mainspring weights. I'm currently running an 11.5 and P-09 plug after fixing that and turning the plug around.
  17. To keep things in one location for others, I'll add this here. The issues I was having with the 13# spring were due to the polymer frame dragging on the hammer. Sanding that back a bit got me back to an 11.5# spring with the P-09 plug. I turned the plug around so the ring is a bit further away from the magwell.

    Cz checkmate?

1 extra barrel on the newest iteration. The Parrot version (purple, green, etc anodizing) doesn't come with an extra barrel, but is a bit less money.
  19. Mine needed a little bit of tweaking, but nothing hard. It's my first open gun too, so far I'm digging it.
  20. Sorry for any confusion, Open1215 has my thought correct. If a physical limitation means he can't get a really solid grip (fused wrist and all) the reduced recoil might be easier to manage. I'm certainly not suggesting I've found some new go faster strategy for open, or that he can't figure out how to make it work his own way. Obviously the scoring disadvantage is significant and leaves very little margin for error.
  21. The muzzle blast from power pistol is obnoxious, but it does create a lot of muzzle pressure. Might be worth a try in the 140-150ish power factor range.
  22. My local range doesn't particularly like rapid fire either, so I know that frustration. Obviously the thumb rest helps for your situation, just thinking out loud with the minor thing I guess.
