  1. Thanks. Any other opinions before I order them?
  2. They do look really cool. How thick are they vs. the stock rubber grips?
  3. If you wear them bullets facing forward and provided they hold the mag within 3/4" of the body per rule 8.6.1.5. This rule is about the cutout: 8.6.2.4 Cover the entire outer face of the portion of the magazine inside the carrier. The outer face is the side away from the shooters body. And this rule lets you modify them: 8.6.1.4 - Ammunition carriers may be modified to meet IDPA rules. Couldn't you tape over the outside face cut out and make them legal when worn bullets facing forward? I'm just trying to standardize and not have to buy more pouches if I don't have to.
  4. I was going to pick up a few 17rd Mec-Gar mags for my CZ. I'd like to add base pads to them. I like that the springers are considerably less expensive and that you end up with the same length magazine as the factory 18rd mags. The shockbottles seem to be popular too. Is there any downside to the springers? Any reason to choose shockbottles over them?
  5. I just got a chance to fire 100 rounds through it tonight. 100% reliable so far.
  6. Thanks Atlas. I really appreciate your help and tutorial. After replacing the stuff that I did, I'm building confidence to tear it apart further and do some polishing.
  7. I forgot to mention it's a SP-01 Tactical, not a Shadow, so it does have a firing pin block. Does that make a difference?
  8. Yeah, I didn't polish anything yet. I went to Walmart today and all they had was 1000 and 2000 grit sandpaper. I wanted to start light with like 1500 grit. Is 2000 too fine? I'd rather polish on the light side rather than go too far. I'm guessing the main areas to polish that help with ignition would be the firing pin and the fp channel?
  9. Does anyone use this combination? It's a SP-01 Tactical. I got my stuff from CGW yesterday and got it installed - ext firing pin & spring, reduced plunger spring, 13lb mainspring, and 11.5lb mainspring. I read the paper and it said that the least reliable primer with the 11.5lb mainspring was CCI. I have only CCI primers and have several, so I'd like to use them at least for now. I really like the DA with the 11.5lb mainspring though. I know I can just try and see, but thought I might save some time by asking. Has anyone had luck with CCI small pistol primers and 11.5 mainspring?
  10. Thanks guys. I ordered some CGW parts to tune this up and see if I like the switch. I'll run it for a while and see what happens.
  11. Leupold Yosemites are really nice, especially for the price. The are pretty compact as well.
  12. Biglou - thank you for taking the time to post that. That helps me a lot.
  13. That's pretty much the answer Ben gave in one of his pod casts. If you haven't listened to those, check them out...lots of great info: http://feeds.feedburner.com/PracticalPistolShow You can also go to his website (not the pro shop) and email him with questions. Yours might get answered on a podcast.
  14. Thank you. I'm gonna order the parts in the next couple days. It seems like a lot of things affect the DA pull. What parts contribute to the SA pull? Is it basically the trigger return spring, safety plunger spring and drag on the sear? The disconnector, sear, and hammer control the length of take-up and reset, correct? Sorry for all the questions.. I appreciate the responses.
  15. Does it just require punching the trigger pin out and wiggling the trigger and trigger bar out?
  16. Thanks. I watched a couple YouTube videos that really cleared things up. I've had the gun since 09 and have shot it quite a bit. The trigger smoothed out considerably.
  17. Thanks. That's the way I was leaning. I'm just trying to tune it up a little so I can train with it for a month or so and see if the switch to it from Glock is something I want to pursue. Can the hammer spring be replaced by just punching out the bottom pin? Or does the sear cage and all that have to come out? It looks like basically all the internals have to come out to get to the trigger return spring. Is that right? I'm not really wanting to tear this thing apart any further than I have to. Does it make much difference?
  18. I think they've changed it to not intimidate shooters new to competition shooting. I know the first time I thought about shooting USPSA I went to watch a match. I thought "I can't hang with these guys". Little did I know, there are a lot of people who look really fast, but are just hosing. I started IDPA because I have a CCP, it was a little slower paced, and slightly more accuracy oriented...which is a strength of mine. I think it will bring more beginners in, but they will eventually leave if they get serious about getting good, like posted above.
  19. The mainspring (hammer spring?) only affects the DA, correct? And you have to replace the striker spring with a reduced power spring when you change the hammer spring, right? What about extended firing pin? Or is it only when you go below 13#? And... The recoil spring is only dependent on your load, right? It doesn't work with/against any other springs like a Glock?
  20. I'm looking for some cheaper parts/things to do to get a decent trigger on this gun. I just want a DA that won't cause carpal tunnel and the SA could be a little less creepy. Options?
  21. What have your experiences been when changing from striker fired to DA/SA? Was it difficult?
  22. Thanks for the help guys. I'll look into what it will take to get my tactical competition ready. I looked at the CGW website...I guess I'm going to have to learn what all the parts are, what they do, and which ones need replaced with better options. I really just want a pretty good trigger and sights. I guess this way even if I end up not liking the switch to DA/SA, I'll still have a better gun than I have now and can go back to Glock. If I do like it, I can get a Shadow later and use this one as a backup.
  23. Glock 34 or CZ Shadow. I keep going back and forth on these two guns. Here’s the deal…I started shooting IDPA this year to get my feet wet in competition and see if it was something I wanted to pursue. I quickly got addicted and started dry fire training regularly. I placed in the top 2 overall the last 3 months locally. I’ve been shooting a slightly modified Glock 19 in SSP and doing pretty well with it. I am going to start shooting USPSA next year too. I’m looking to get a “real” competition gun for next season. I’m not a bandwagon CZ guy. My first “real” centerfire handgun was a SP-01 Tactical. I still have it, I think it’s an ’09. I really like the gun. The ergonomics are superb, it has been very reliable, and is extremely accurate. The trigger sucks though. It’s DA is looooong and very heavy, and the SA is creepy. It used to be gritty, but after a lot of rounds it worked itself out. I hear that the Shadow has a much improved trigger compared to the SP-01’s, especially the decocker models like I have. The tritium sights of my Tactical leave something to be desired, but the Shadow has much better sights, too. I like the weight of the gun. I think reloads are very easy with it. The reason I'm not just using my SP-01 to compete with is because of (1) the trigger and sights are bad and (2)I've changed my grip shooting Glocks and I sometimes hit the decocker lever and decock it inadvertently. I like my Glock 19. The grip took some getting used to, but after training a while, it’s not an issue anymore. It is utterly reliable and accuracy is pretty good. After installing new sights, (-) connector, striker spring, plunger spring, guide rod, recoil spring, and some polishing, it transformed the gun. I like the simplicity of the platform and the fact that you can do pretty much anything to it yourself. Although I’m a little reluctant to switch platforms, I’m not too worried about making the switch to DA/SA. I’ve had some experience with it and the Shadows lighter pull weights would make it even easier to learn. From what I’ve read, most people don’t have much trouble switching with some dry fire training. I’m mainly worried about having to shoot one handed with the DA first pull. The cost is basically going to be a wash. I'd have to get a holster and sights for the G34. I've already got a holster that (I think) will fit the Shadow and it comes with good sights. Either way I'm good on magazines and either way I have to buy more pouches for USPSA. The Glock 34 has a longer barrel and sight radius. The CZ has more weight and less reciprocating mass. The Glock is the ”safe” choice for me since it is what I’ve trained the most with and can be tuned into a very capable/reliable gun easily by myself. It's kinda the no brainer choice. The CZ has the sex appeal and has become very successful in the last few years. It also has lots of tune-ability, it’s just harder to work on yourself. The CZ kinda has my heart because it was my first handgun. I feel like either way I go, I’ll probably end up with both eventually…I just can’t afford both right now…wish I could. Anyway, sorry about the rambling…I guess I’m just looking for some advice from other people who have made the switch and either liked it or decided it wasn’t for them. I know it's a very personal choice, but I've been kinda driving myself crazy about this and just had to ask on here. Any advice on how to choose would be appreciated.
  24. Is this a very common problem? Is it just SP-01's or Shadows too?
