First Brass Tumble.. Question about brass
Glock021 replied to straightravage's topic in 9mm/38 Caliber
I keep a case gauge on hand for each caliber that I load. -
Hurricane Mathew

Good not to be hearing of major damage. Hopefully everyone's powder and primers are staying high and dry. -
+1 on the Rock Chucker kit. That's a great place to start, and like Ray said, you will never get rid of it even if you do upgrade to a progressive.
-
I picked up a cheap food dehydrator from Harbor Freight. It works great for drying brass even though it is another step in the process. HF regularly has 20% off coupons. There aren't many things at HF that are actually useful for any length of time, this has been one.
-
No case lube on pistol cases. Never tried it without the pins. Seems like it would kind of defeat the purpose of getting really clean, new looking brass. Do the primer pockets and insides of the cases still get clean with no pins?
-
Separating and handling the pins is the biggest pain for me. So is drying. The pistol brass that I wet tumble ends up too clean (if that makes sense). It sticks to the powder funnel and makes for a rough upstroke when loading on a 550. I end up tumbling in walnut (with polish added) anyway.
-
I have the Frankford Arsenal tumbler. I was able to grab it as an Amazon "Lighning Deal" for around 110 bucks. It works really well. Wet tumbling is a pain. Sometimes I question why I do it. How clean does the brass really need to be?
-
My bench sits in a carpeted room as well. I have never spilled more than a few grains from a case. Most of what ends up on the carpet are the spent primers that the Dillon 550 spits everywhere. I keep a small Shop Vac beside the bench for clean up.

Broke my first Dillon part
Glock021 replied to Raydee38's topic in Dillon Precision Reloading Equipment
Pretty sure those are in the spare parts kits. My worst break was the crank on the 550. I was also starting to get some slop in the press. Dillon sent a new crank, arms, pins, everything. I tore it down and rebuilt it in an evening. They offered to refurb it if I wanted to send it in. -
Just have to decide in your case which is the best bang for your buck. My eyes aren't young anymore. Scope first for me.
-
The Vortex Strike Eagle is on sale this weekend at Primary Arms for $280.45. Use code "laborday". I've been watching for a deal on that scope, finally found it.
-
My bench stays a mess. I have managed to get the tools organized by adding pegboard to the wall behind the bench.
-
I keep getting a script error. Windows 10, Firefox browser.

2nd press... another 550B or upgrade to xl650
Glock021 replied to 78Staff's topic in Dillon Precision Reloading Equipment
I'm about to the point where I'm ready to upgrade my 550. I will eventually replace the 550 with a 650 or just add a 650 to the bench. -

550B roller handle... necessary, or nicety?
Glock021 replied to Fatso's topic in Miscellaneous BEginners
I could take it or leave it. It isn't a bad upgrade, but for me it wasn't a "why didn't I do this sooner" deal either. -
Thanks all. Several Glocks DIllon 550 and an RCBS Rock Chucker for the occasional single stage needs. CBR, you and your Rugers........ Shoot mainly in OKC, Edmond, Tulsa, and Ponca.

Been lurking and reading for a long time. Figured I might as well start posting once in a while. Regular USPSA and occasional 3-Gun shooter. I also enjoy the Oklahoma Run 'n Gun events.
