  1. I don't think it would be as competitive as a shorter barrel and lighter pistol, Matt if you want to try it out sign up for steel challenge on March 13th when you and Hannibal sign up and shoot the Revolver Classic on the 14th of March. Your welcome to give it a try.
  2. If you are not going to compete with the revolver and want one just to play with, or if you want to use it for a carry gun or on the night stand, you may want to look at the S&W 986, which is as said by others here a 7 shot moonclipped gun, BUT that model is available in a 2 inch barrel also.
  3. This is what we have been using. We don't usually get too cold, but we have shot down to 28 F and it sticks. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009AFEN0O/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  4. Doesn't the Burris have a lifetime warranty? I personally like the C-More railway and the slideride.
  5. Well a few years ago we had two whole pigs cooked for lunch at the Icarus II match. BUT we have always had great hot lunches at our bigger matches. This year Bruce is thinking Philly Steak sandwiches on Friday and Brats and smoked Brisket for Saturday. We can't do anything about checkout times as that is corporate. If we do the pin shoot it will be on the same day as the main match with more than likely the same guns you are using in the match and would take place after the match when I am syncing the tablets and seeing who won the main match. Nothing is scheduled for Sunday to allow for travel back home as some have always said why they couldn't stay. Now on the Friday the 13th Steel Challenge match will have all 13 divisions available, with shooters allowed to shoot two different divisions if they want.
  6. I don't use any bullets with a groove for crimping. It works with 147 Blue bullets, 145 Bang and Clangs, 147 and 158 rn Berrys plated, Bayou 147s and the 160s that I cast and powder coat. I haven't needed a groove when using any of these in my 929s or 627s.
  7. As a disclaimer to my original post, what I am trying to do is see what I can offer to get more people to sign up and come and shoot the Revolver Classic in Mesquite, NV in March. And I am wondering if it will be worth the extra effort to set up and try and run a side match like pin shooting to garner more attendance to the match. We are already shooting two days, with an 8 stage official Steel Challenge match on Friday the 13th and then an 8 stage Revolver match the next day which is the main match. We tried last year with the steel challenge on Sunday and did not have a lot of participation with the reason being stated that they need to drive/fly back on Sunday. We have also had the main match on Saturday and a man on man shoot-off on Sunday, again with limited success in prior years. So I'm just trying to solicit some other possible things to try and get more wheelguns here for the Main Match.
  8. If one was thinking about having a Bowling Pin side match, just how and when would you have it? In the middle of or at the end of the end of the main match? Also how would you run divisions or just heads up, fastest time or use points to see who wins. Allow just iron sights or optics also? Would having a side match like this make you more inclined to sign up and shoot a larger, normal 8-9 stage revolver match? Or would anything like that even matter to make you want to shoot a match?
  9. Here you go http://bmtequipped.com/index.php
  10. Yes this is the one I use and just like you mentioned remove the seating portion and use as stand alone crimp die
  11. Use the roll crimp die from the LEE short colt die set, I have used that for several years with no issues.
  12. I am thinking that one would have to get a ruling from SC, Ported or compensated, both help minimize recoil and muzzle flip. That would lead me to believe that it would only be allowed in Open, but I may be wrong.
  13. I don't think that he is worried about needing a ported barrel, I think he is looking at the Taurus and they don't have many, if any non-ported revolvers, they are much less expensive to buy, but won't fit many of the gun games we play in. I'm thinking he should look for some pre-owned S&Ws or Rugers to shoot ISR and OSR in SC.
  14. If your club or who ever is running the match that you are shooting is following the SC rules, ALL rimfire and ALL rifles start at low ready pointing at a flag or cone 10ft in front of the shooting box.
  15. That is not always going to work as most 38 spcl. brass is tapered on the inside and gets thicker the deeper in you go. When I tried several different head stamps r-p, ww, Fed. when they were cut down to short colt length I swelled the case when searing the bullet. No yes you can cut them down to a long colt or mid colt length and those will work, but it's a lot of effort. I would just buy 1-2000 starline short colt and be done with it. You get your bras back and you will get many cycles out of the brass.
  16. Here is mine with the Cmore railway.
  17. I'm not that used to using a dot, and I struggle sometimes finding it. I have tried several brands and types and the one that seems to work for the best is the Cmore Slideride or Railway. I am using the railway on several pistols and it works for me, if I use the slide ride or one of the smaller dots, they sit to low and it feels like I am pointing at the dirt with it. Just to used to irons. The railway on the picatinny is up just high enough that I don't have the feeling that I'm pointing the gun to low.
  18. I also use a mix of dies, I use a Lee U die to decap and size, a Lyman M die to expand and flare with, a Hornaday to seat with and here is where I diverge from most others, I use a Lee short colt roll crimp to crimp my s colts and my 9mm's the 9's run in all of my bottom feeders also.
  19. Yes that would be correct. The cart or buggy is considered a physical structure if you will, to leave a rifle that is in a safe condition, unattended. But the buggy or structure should be within the 6 feet of berm to case or uncase the rifle to go to the start position or if done shooting a stage to put up the gun
  20. The 6 feet from a berm is also because a lot of people use gun carts, Park your buggy pointing to the berm with your long guns on it. All long guns MUST be flagged. Yes you can leave your cased and flagged long gun unattended on the staging table. If uncased and flagged, laying on a staging area table muzzle MUST point to berm.
  21. Having no shirts will lower the cost. Making it optional generally won't because in order to get decent pricing on the shirts you usually have a minimum amount you have to order to get the pricing down.
  22. Hey everyone you have till the end of the month to sign up before the price increase. Sign up and come play. You can get here Thursday afternoon, shoot 8 stages of Steel Challenge on Friday the 13th, and then come back on Saturday the 14th for 8 fun stages, with your wheelguns. I know that I am biased but that sounds like a fun shooting weekend to me, that is IF you're not superstitious or afraid to shoot on the 13th. What say you all, come out and play.
  23. Why would you think that the match fees would not go up if a lunch is provided? ANY thing that is added to a match has a cost to It in time, or materials or actual money, and usually it's all three. Some may not find value in it, but many others do. That is where it is up to the MD to determine if the added cost is worth it or not.
