  1. Thanks for the vote of confidence. Hang in there and reply to others as well...those posts count!!! Take care buddy and welcome to the forum. Everyone here is very helpful and knowledgeable.
  2. Hi Guys, I have a small milling machine (Sieg X2) and wondered if anyone has any good information on milling a slide. I have a homemade Yavapai jig and other jigs. I'm not a Machinist and am really just starting this type of work on personal builds. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!!!
  3. This works great for sticky barrels. Might sound brutal but it's not harmful.
  4. Does this work regarding the 4.15" Recoilmaster as well?
  5. I've heard that people doing custom builds who end up with extraction issues have many times fixed them by using the Aftec.
  6. This is absolutely correct...it's the same premise as people building AR15 rifles. The stripped serialized low IS the gun. Everything else is peripheral.
  7. I agree...use CK parts wherever you can and it will definitely make for less work in the long run.
  8. How much do you want for the dovetail cutter?

How about 1/2 price?  $65.00 mailed to your door?

If you can hang on to it for just a bit I'll take it.  Can you give me the specs, manufacturer, etc?

  9. Nice gun...pretty unique. I had considered doing a carry comp gun similar to this. I was going to do either a 4.25" barrel and end up Government length or a 3-3.5" barrel to end up at 4.25" Commander length.
  10. How much do you want for the cutter? I can't afford $135 but I saw you said you let it go cheap...

  12. I like to use Dykem to see where I'm making contact. The key thing is to take your time. The first slide/frame for I did turned out better than any custom builder I've seen.
  13. Getting ready to do my first 2011 build too. I'm going really crazy and doing a shorty open gun.
  14. There is literally tons of information on YouTube. If you watch a few you'll quickly figure out who has the right stuff. Good luck, I'm a beginning 1911 builder too and if you take your time the results can be incredible. My slide to frame fit on my first build was better than any custom maker I have ever seen.
  15. I've heard from several shooters that the flat springs last darn near forever. They also tell me the recoil impulse seemed softer.
  16. Hello everyone, I'm building a 1911 and a 2011 right now with more to come. These are all personal use guns. I need some advice or links to explain how best to fit the safety. I have a 10-8 Performance Bench Block and there is a spot to insert the safety and file it down but it seems like an awful lot of material removal but I could be wrong. Any advice and/or links would be greatly appreciated. Thankd guys!!!
  17. Thanks so much for the links...this will be a great help!!!
  18. That's awesome...I have a recoilmaster for the gun too.
  19. I'm building a shorty because I lucked into a Trubor 4.15 barrel brand new for next to nothing.
  20. How do you tune it to eject low? Do I shape the ejector so that it contact the round high and left?
  21. Sorry for the late reply but could you tell me how to get the feed lips timed properly. Also I'd like to see the extractor work you're talking about. You can send pics to gunsngeeks@gmail.com Thanks for your help!!!
  22. Hello everyone, I'm building my first open gun and I'm planning on using one of the STI 4.15" barrels with compensator blank and a Caspian slide. The frame is from Limited 10 and I'll be using EGW internals. Is there anything I need to know about to make the gun run properly? I'm still trying to decide whether to chamber the barrel in 38 Supercomp or 9mm (Major). I've heard horror stories about getting these guns to run properly so any help I can get would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help... Dan
  23. You can always run an STI 2011 clone frame from Limited 10, Phoenix Trinity, CK Arms, or SVI/Infinity. It could be built into a gun to suit your needs for around a thousand bucks and you'll still have top quality parts.
