  1. This is the proper method. You should basically look straight through the sight with both eyes open and focus on the target, superimposing the dot onto the target.
  2. Front sight lifts, front sight dips right, front sight shifts, front sight does the triple-lindy from the high dive, lol....you guys are making my head hurt ?????
  3. I agree with the Glock recommendation. Cheap prices, great reliability, and a myriad of upgrade possibilities.
  4. I would use as many vertical velcro "keepers" as it takes to stabilize your belt...Just my two pennies worth.
  5. I would have to agree. Plus, you should always consider the funfactor as compared to price. Where else can you get this much enjoyment for such a small price???
  6. Ultimo-Hombre has the right idea. I think you should always err on the side of caution.
  7. Most in state sales can be transferred face to face. However, if buying from another state the gun almost certainly always has to be shipped to an FFL dealer where you will have to fill out paperwork and possibly wait for approval of a background check.
  8. I agree with johnbu, sort of. We always placed our thumb between the hammer and frame while squeezing the trigger and riding/slowing the hammer with the firing hand.
  9. I think if you're shooting USPSA or or other sports where there isn't any or very little long distance shooting you could use a dot size 10 moa or bigger. This would speed up target acquisition. I know some guys who shoot so fast that they don't pay much attention to the dot, they just put the target in the optic window and squeeze the trigger.
  10. What is the purpose of keeping track? It would be pretty difficult to shoot out a pistol barrel.
  11. I too have large hands and I always use a memory bump grip safety. I think that may be enough to prevent your safety issues. Also, there is another type of mainspring housing you may like as well, it is a wedge-shaped housing. I think it may give you the grip you want. I hope this helps.
  12. What about starting on a cheaper progressive press like the Lee Pro 1000?
  13. I've never owned a Dillon. I always used an RCBS Rock Chucker. Is the Dillon all everyone says it it???
  14. I like Lee for factory crimp dies, the rest of the time it's between RCBS and Lee. They'll both do the job. Lee is cheaper too...
  15. Congrats, I feel like it will take me 50 years to get my 50 posts, lol...
  16. Lee dies are just fine...I used to be a stickler for RCBS Carbide Dies for pistol and the Lees offer just as precise tolerances.
  17. Would you guys recommend the MBX mags even for casual shooting or are the factory STI mags fine?
  18. Anyone have any experience with the CK bare frames?
  19. Hmmm...I may build my shorty in 38 Supercomp instead. Good post guys, food for thought.
  20. +1 JoeyMac I agree with you. The body looks nearly twice as tall. It looks like this would negate having a co-witness with your iron sights unless they were freakishly tall. I think I still prefer the old style for that reason alone. To me, the reason for slide mounting is to maintain a lower sight plane. The Pro looks almost as high as a C-More Serendipity...I know not quite. Just my 2 pennies...it's still a nice sight!!!
  21. Hello all, I'm building my first shorty open gun to review the Limited-10 STI 2011 style 80% frames. I have 2 frames, one a tactical in 4140 carbon steel and the other a 7075 aluminum. Both are the long, wide configuration with the exception of the picatinny rail on the tactical model. (Both also have Para/Clark ramp cuts) The gun will be built in 9 major to keep things cheap as far as load development goes. I won't be competing as I am disabled due to Muscular Dystrophy. The gun will be one of at least a trio of pistols to be used as test beds for new product & ammunition reviews. My question is will the 7075 hold up to the battering of the major loads over time??? I have seen plenty of aluminum framed guns hold up to thousands of rounds but running the hot loads and light springs is new to me as i always just shot single stack. I was hoping to use the 7075 for weight savings as my arm strength is limited. Most of my shooting will probably be done off bags with my friends helping with the running and gunning tests. I will list all of the components I have soon as well. Also, if anyone has any tips or suggestions please don't be shy. I am a longtime gunsmith but I want to learn everything I can... I'm also in need of a dirt cheap or donated thumb rest. I'm using an STI Steelmaster C-More mount if that helps. It has a tiny little thumb rest but my hands are huge!!! Thanks in advance everyone!!! Dan
  22. Hello all, I'm currently hand building my first Open gun in 9mm. I am a gunsmith and just wondering how the upright saddle mount is causing issues. Are they mounting them far enough to the rear to catch cases or is there another issue?
