  1. i sort and sell a bunch of brass and i wanted to get the 22's and dirt out of my mix so i took a router to my Dillon Large Media separator so now they fall out through the larger holes i made........D I C K
  2. you may want to drop Jay Della bella a line at jayjdb@yahoo.com he had a few guns he built at the cup that all ran flawlessly as well as his own........ i even heard a rumor that one of the champions was shooting Jays backup gun......he also keeps all my IPSC, IDPA, and Bianchi guns and AR's running like a top.......i witnessed him shooting a ransom rest 38 super group at 50 yards that a quarter would cover with one of his rebarreling jobs on a Bianchi gun....i think one of the Aussies was shooting that gun......Building guns is not his day job however, but me and a lot of others know he's worth waiting for...........Ray
  3. Back when i was in college and had no money so i put some M1 Carbine brass in a 5 gallon bucket with a lid on it and let it roll around in the trunk of my 65 Chevy for a weekend.......The media was some sort of sandblasting stuff that i got from my dads foundry....it was pretty harsh on the brass and chewed it up pretty good......i'm not sure if it was the media i was using or it could have been that saturday night at the drive it with my girlfriend that did it......D I C K
  4. i just got a Dillon trimmer and plan to use it on my 650....but i'm not sure which case lube to use.....should i use the Dillon pump on stuff or something else??????? As a side note, i've got a bunch of bottles of the Dillon pump on stuff that appears to have gone bad so the shelf life of this stuff must not be very long.......the lanolin or whatever is in it looks like snot flying around in the bottle and will not go back into suspension....any thoughts on this???
  5. Here's where i always go for loads...... http://www.k8nd.com/ipscload.htm D I C K
  6. We shoot it in Wilmington NC and nobody showed up for the last two matches......there is talk of bulldozing the mover range and giving it to the cowboys......Shucks
  7. A buddy just got a used Brazos STI IPSC 38 super gun that had been set up to run IPSC major loads......he wanted to convert it to minor so he can shoot NRA action pistol/Steel matches.....With the gun set up as it was we tried my steel load which is 5.0 of titegroup and a 115 and it will not even begin to cycle the action......not knowing what spring was in it we replaced it with a 9 pound spring which felt lighter than the spring that came in it......the 9 pound spring would bearly eject loads and many stovepipes.......we then found a 6 pound spring and it would eject cases but feeding was a problem with a full magazine and the weak 6 pound spring...........Is there any magic way to get this gun to shoot minor loads??????? i'm guessing we'll just have to go back to an 8 or 9 pound spring and beef up the load until it works the gun reliably.......what do you guys think????? thanks.....D I C K
  8. Same here....i use the Lee U die and a Lee Factory Crimp Die and i shoot the same 40 range brass that i sell on ebay and it runs fine no matter what it was shot in.....D I C K
  9. no minimum power factor but i give shooters at our CAS match a bunch of grief if they won't knock the paint off the targets.......D I C K
  10. i think i've read several places over the years that titegroup and WSL are the same powder.....get someone else to verify it but i'm pretty sure i've heard that.....D I C K
  11. i can't comment on the 550 but i use a lee collet neck sizer for 223 in my RCBS piggyback progressive loader and my 223's work fine and are very accurate......please note that this is only for "play" ammo.......i use nickel cases so i won't get them confused with any other ammo....D I C K
  12. i use one with all my pistol calibers, including 38 super....D I C K
  13. i picked up some factory 454 Casull brass the other day and it was loaded with small primers.....so maybe we don't need the large primers afterall....D I C K
  14. Hey Cos.........just to keep you honest i'll take my chrono to the next match....D I C K

    Cracked Slide

i busted the slide on an old 17L i still shoot......The cause was machine gun ammo i loaded for a buddy's uzi which was too hot for any pistol....but it still took a couple of 50 cal ammo cans of it to cause the damage.......Glock replaced the slide....D I C K
  16. A buddy just got a choate and it would not work with the enclosed orange follower or the factory remington metal one.......i chamfered the backside of the orange follower and it now works but i think the basic problem is a flange created by the extension fitted into the forend nut and the follower catches on it....sometime when we have more time i need to grind the offending flange out and i suspect it would work with either follower.....D I C K
  17. i sort brass for resale all the time and i can tell you that i think i have seen every major manufacturers once fired brass split on the first firing so i wouldn't worry about a manufacturer having a split case unless i saw a bunch of them....i do sort a bunch of "Independence" *I* cases and have not seen a an unusually high amount of split cases......i actually don't remember seeing one at all in all the thousands of the *I* that i've sorted......D I C K
  18. i use RCBS piggybacks and have several of the case activated powder drop gizmos....if you can get past the expanding issue, they would work fine on your Dillon........D I C K
  19. They are winding up an order for my gun club now for around 250K....we do an order with them every year or so....they are a fine mom and pop operation and are great to deal with......you should get together with some of your shooting buddies and put together a bulk order like we do....five years or so ago the first time we ever did it Reece told me if we'd order 150K that he'd deliver them for free....i remember thinking about how in the world i'd ever get an order for that many.....after talking it up for a couple of weeks we ordered around 275K so it will be easier than you think.....when they come each buyer gets his bullets in a box or boxes with his name on it so you don't have to sort anything or anything like that.....D I C K
  20. i've done it before....i resized them first so the shell wouldn't hold water...sort of made a mess in my sizer because mine were really dirty (But FREE)used a little brake cleaner and washed the sizer on my mec out....i put them in a mess bag that the dry cleaners uses to keep your junk separate from everybody elses...and washed them....i then spread them out and let them dry....looked like new....D I C K PS.... Wife was out of town
  21. i've heard that roll sizing will tighten the prime pocket....any comments on that....when i seat the primers on my 38 supers, i don't even feel it......D I C k
  22. Sorry guys....gun was k FRAME 66....i guess i was so busy looking at fired cases ect that i didn't take a good look at the model #........thanks for the replys....thanks...D I C K
  23. i saw a 686 with a split in the barrel at the forcing cone at the indoor range yesterday....when they finally got it apart i looked at the brass and it looked OK...no eviidence of cratering or heavy loads....the owner of the gun was not there to talk to but he was shooting reloads in 38 brass.....any ideas?????? D I C K
  24. i'm pretty sure that i've seen some 3gun match descriptions that limit shot size to #6....but i'm sure you'd be ok at most of them.......D I C K
