  1. well i guess it's time to air this out since i've given S&J over a month to iron out the problem i had with my forend with "Zero" results... On January 9th i started emailing S&J telling them that of the 4 phillips head screws that hold the center section of the forend in place that 2 of them had sheared off and the other two would have sheared off if i hadn't noticed the other two were gone.......they seemed pretty apologetic to start with and told me that if i'd send it to one of their US representatives that they'd get me another in short order....they had me send it to Mark Mueller at EliteTacticaladvantage.com at an address in Wisconsin who i'm guessing is the original manufacuturer of the forend...i've been emailing Simon Beeson (also known as Badboybeeson) on a few of the shotgun forums one of the partners in S&J Hardware pleading for help and at first he said he'd get in touch with Mark Mueller and have him send out another by express mail...but now i'm not getting any response to my emails or a call or two that i've made to S&J's answering machine..... i've also written using snailmail and left a message on Elite Tactical Advantages Website asking for help from them since i think they ended up with my forearm.......plus asked them to return it to me so maybe i can find someone to fix it for me.....D I C K PS...when was last time you saw phillips head screws on a piece of tactical gear....i've owned gear from just about everybody over the years and can't recall ever seeing any on rails from Knight, Surefire, ect...i guess that should have been a sign.....D I C K
  2. i like most of you have bought additional barrels for my 930.....i bought a 28" w/ports for general sporting clays and skeet shooting and the gun runs pretty good with it....... my 24" turkey on the other hand has about driven me up the wall.....the first issue was i was having shells stick in the chamber and the extractor rip though the rim....i hopefully have cured this by taking a bronze brush with some croakus cloth pressed into it and polished the chamber with the brush on a short cleaning rod and drill....i followed that up with a bore swab with Flitz using the same process....100 of my reloaded rounds yesterday at five stand and skeet with only one malfunction...which was the Dreaded click FTF that we all may get from to time...... Another issue was the "Pusher" which is the plastic thing with the two rods which drives the bolt back.....i happen to notice that it was binding while in the back position against the receiver and the barrel....a little work with my knife and file removed the offending plastic which i could see was wearing the finish off on the underside the barrel...it now moves freely back and forth with the barrel installed....so i'm hoping that this fix will help with the FTF issues because the bolt can now deliver more force to get the bolt in battery since it's not having to use that force to dislodge the pusher and the gas system back into the barrel lug...... if you're having issues these two fixes my help....D I C K
  3. take the gas piston thing apart per the instructions in this forum and clean it good with a wire brush or whatever bvecause the gunk or whatever under the rings will prevent it from going into battery.....i've been running mine pretty hard the last couple of months and i had more than just a few FTF today.....i just took mine apart and could not believe how much crap was under the rings....good shoot'n.....D I C K
  4. you didn't say which lube you were using but if you were not using Dillon Spray lube you need to get some when you order the replacement parts..... Don't use Hornady One Shot on rifle brass....D I C K
  5. i was at a sporting clays range once and noticed some Drunks that were passing as maintainance people dumping hulls in the trash....i asked one of the guys about it and he said he used to keep them but never did anything with them...long story short he went home and for $20 i got 10 skeet boxes full of once fired Win AA's....however most had gotten wet and ugly because his shed leaked.....i took them home put them in a laundry bags and washed in the washing machine, then spread out to dry......they came out looking like new....word to the wise, do this when wife is gone....D I C K
  6. i used to see brass around by winchester that some forum members called "Double Dot" because it had a dot on either side of the headstamp...i remember it had really tight primer pockets and if you compared it to the S&B the print on the headstamp was large like the S&B and was the same font...plus the rim was different like S&B....do you suppose winchester was buying it from them and selling it during the obama ammo crunch....D I C K
  7. Matt, The Mossberg choke tube and Winchokes are the same. O Rly? Very cool, thanks for that info. I might get it chopped after all. here's where i got my barrel... http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=262099107 To cut down? That is a ported barrel. Sorry Dick, it didn't click who was making the post. I just envisioned the 40 people who would run out and buy that barrel thinking it was a link to a non-ported barrel. Well to be honest i hope it doesn't have ports but i really don't care if it does or not....i already bought a non-ported 24" turkey barrel for 3gun stuff....at this point i'm so in love with the 930 system that i'm thinking about getting rid of my 1100's....i shoot skeet and 5 stand a 5 or six times a month and the turkey sights on the 24" mess me up when i shoot moving targets with that barrel so i'm buying this barrel for skeet ect...... The 930 is an amazing gun and i'm recommending it to anyone looking for an auto gun rather than the Remy 1100 (Which my the way seem to give a lot of problems these days) that i used to recommend....i bought this gun for 3gun (after already having had a Benelli) but as soft shooting as it is, it has quickly become my favorite auto...... By the way, anyone looking for Winchokes should watch gunbroker....i just got an Imp Cyl and a Full with a wrench last night for $25 including shipping.... D I C K

  9. I'm using the stock metal follower in mine. Sent from my PG06100 using Tapatalk i forgot to say that mine didn't release shells with the new Choate Extension until i cut about 8" +- off the spring....D I C K
  10. Would you happen to know the model # you ordered? My invoice shows (M930 BBLASM 24DR PRTD SS-FULL Matte) $180.00 two extra chokes were $15.75 Each Has front and rear fiber optic sights Mine is a non-ported barrel with a turkey choke.....i acually posted pics on another thread in this forunm....mine is the shotgun with the aluminum ribbed forend....D I C K
  11. These folks do a first rate job of finishing it...no sharp edges like some picatinny stuff...i've ordered rail covers just because......D I C K
  12. we use them as obsructions....sort of like a no-shoot you can shoot....D I C K

  15. Mossy must be catching up on the barrels...i ordered a 24" turkey mat finish on 10/25 and they shipped it on 11/15.......D I C K
  16. Magpul Dynamics used our range a while back to film some training DVDs and used some of the full size plastic targets for bad guys....After the shoot they gave them to us and we use them as obstructions during our IDPA......sort of like a no-shoot that you don't score but when rounds hit them you never know where or if they will hit the IDPA target behind them....we'll probably use them this weekend and if i remember i'll take some pics....D I C K
  17. here's one that i didn't see mentioned....i've put a small rubber piece under the shell pin at the next station after powder dropped....i use small rubber things like you used to put in spigots before all the washerless fixtures came out...you'll have to file on it to get it just right....D I C K
  18. here's my version of Drum Sander Vs Forend D I C K
  19. Thanks Benny. I had cleaned everything before, but I hadn't taken the ring off of the piston. I just took it off, cleaned everything and put it back together. The gas piston moves much more freely now, so there was definitely an issue there. I'll take it to the range in the next few days to try it, but I'm pretty sure you've got it. thanks from D I C K also Benny i also took off the rings cleaned good and piston moves freely....somewhere around here i've got a big old stainless brush that i used on 1100's back in my competition skeet days to clean the barrel ring...it looks like a giant chamber brush but has the profile of the barrel ring cut in it...1100's used to really get a bunch of burned on junk under them....the only thing with it is that it is so agressive that it will cut all the bluing off the inside of the ring....it's one of those things that once you start using it, you can't quit.....thanks....D I C K
  20. Can you describe what's happening? Is it loaded 7+1, fire the first round and bolt's open and second shell is somewhere on lifter? So I was practicing my reloads with dummy shells ( seems to be no different than slugs ) With the bolt close and a shell inside the chamber, I'm loading directly into the tube. I feel like consistently the 2nd shell I put into the tube catches somewhere where the brass part of the shotshell goes in. Any common issues with things stopping/catching the shell? Perhaps that retaining piece of metal that keeps the shells in the tube ? one of the reasons i bought the mossberg is that i was told that you could have seven shells in the mag tube, one in the chamber and one on the lifter like some of the older Benelli's,,,which would give you a total of eight shells in a short gun.....well this has turned ut to be not true in the case of my new SPX.....i have tried to do this like my old Bennelli and i can't get it to work because when you try to put the shell on the lifter through the ejection port, a shell is released from the mag tube before you can pull the bolt back far enough to put the shell on it from the top..... when i do try to fire the SPX with a shell on the lifter and one in the barrel....the crimp area of the shotshell sometimes gets caught under the piece under the barrel which i guess would be equivilent to a barrel ramp on an AR or a 1911....i think the recoil pushes the second shell forward toward the mag tube and when the lifter tries to lift it it gets caught under the ramp i decscribed......what the fix is i don't know....maybe Dr. Benny knows..... Another thing i've noticed is that it seems like you have to push the shell farther up into the mag tube farther than i'm used to to get it to click into the tube.....in a hurry, the shell you just tried to load will pop back onto the lifter and then you;ve got to shoot it like that or rack the bolt in order to get more shells into the tube....i've looked at taking some of the metal off at the front of thebottom of the receiver loading port so you can push it in further and not even realize it when yu're doing it....thanx....D I C K

  22. On another issue, i called mossberg today and ordered a 24" barrel with no ports.....according to rep i talked to i had to order a turkey barrel with extra full tube and had to pay extra to get 2 additional choke tubes of imp cylinder and mod......total cost with shipping is just under $225..... if someone knows who i need talk to to get a 24" with choke tubes for $150 i'm all ears...... .....thanks and good shoot'n.....D I C K
  23. i've had a similar problem with mine that i've had less than a week with my 930 18.5 with rifle sights....took it out today after a good cleaning last night.....lots of Mobil one on everything including the mag tube and also the piston .....i had a failure to fire after less than 10 rounds....slight firing pin mark centered on the primer....rechambered same shell and shot OK......hammer fall sounds weak to me... 24. Ok....Ok....it was my gun and here is the scoop on what happened.......i was using up some old shells that i had accumulated over the years....i looked in the bag that held these old shells and found what looked like a piece of parchment with the load data on it....these shells had 1 3/8 oz of #4 shot with around 37 grains of blue dot at 1300 fps....the recoil was so violent that it pulled the extension tube off of the mag tube even with two brackets......i looked at the threads that were available for use in front of foreend and there were only three....i think i've remedied the problem by removing material on the front of the plastic foreend so i've now got 5 threads availalbe to engage the extension.....this was the last stage of the 3 gun match and was pistol and shotgun and i hadn't had too good of a day and i didn't figure i had much to use if the shells didn't work......i shot the last three clays with my pistol (hope the range master doesn't see this post)...........D I C K
