Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I just put an Arredondo thumb rest on my STI. I have the rest mounted over my C-more serendipity. I shot it the other night and it worked great. I was in my loading room this morning and decided to try some dry firing. I put my Safariland 012 on and went to slip my gun in it. To my surprise it did not fit. I marked it up with a marker and broke out the files and Dremel tool. It fits like a charm now but I was wondering if there are other holsters that would have worked without modifying them. Has anyone else had this problem? Dave
  2. I use N340 and N350 for most of my loads. They both meter very well. Dave
  3. Place the bullet on before you index. Why didn't I think of that? That is one of those ideas that seem obvious once you hear it. I will give that a try tonight. I think I will still order some 3N38 and give it a try. I think it is a bit slower burning than N350 and may work my comp better. This is the first I have heard about flames from 3N38. I will have to see how it works for me. When I first bought this gun and did not have dies for loading I bought some factory stuff from Federal so I could try the gun. It produced about a two foot flame from the comp on every shot. Very distracting but it kept the shooting bays next to me empty Dave
  4. I am currently using VV N350 in my 38 super loads. I use 8.9gr. with Zero 115gr. FMJ to make just under 170PF. This loads nearly fills the 38 super case. I load with a Dillon 550 and no matter how smoothly I index I get powder spilage. This causes me to stop and clean spilled powder every fifty rounds or so. If I load very slowly I can avoid spilage but with golf weather arriving I have better things to do than load 100 rounds per hour I can see by reading posts that VV 3N38 is very popular for 38 super. I was wondering if you can make major with that powder without filling the case so much. I want to stick with a powder that will work well with my comp and ported barrel. Any advice on other powders that may work well for me? Dave
  5. Flyin40, I have wondered about this as well. I have an orange sticker that is 1" dia. stuck on an IPSC target. The target is taped on a wall about eight feet away from me. I practice drawing and firing at the orange dot and if my dot drifts off the sticker when I pull the trigger, I figure I messed up. On a smooth trigger pull the dot stays in the sticker easily but if I get jerky I can tell right away. That works for me but I am curious what other people do. Dave
  6. The only reason I don't roll size is the four to five hundred bucks to buy one. If I could buy something for a couple hundred bucks I would do it. There is a gun shop near me that does a lot of reloading. He roll sizes all his brass. He has it set up with the case feeder from a Dillon 650 dumping into the roll sizer. With that setup it would not take long to size them. Dave
  7. I asked this same question several weeks ago. I was directed to the rig you can buy from the Hoser cam site. It looked rather time consuming. I decided to try marking them myself. I had a plastic insert from a box of ammo. I just suck the round in it, pressed a permanent marker against the brass and gave it a turn. I worked fine but need a better system in you are marking a thousand rounds. The thing I did not like was it left residue in my gun. I only ran about 150 rounds through it. It did not effect the function yet but perhaps after more rounds it would. I only put one stripe about 1/8" wide on each case. Perhaps the sharpie I used was not the correct type of marker. I think if you painted the entire case with ink you would have problems. Dave
  8. Dansy, thanks for that information. I will check out their site. I hear nothing but great reviews for Oakley glasses. If they can produce a wrap around lens with clear vision it may be worth the extra cost. I have looked at the Rudy Project glasses. I think they are to big. I need to look good while I am screwing up a stage . Dave
  9. 40AET, Thanks for the info. I am ordering Grams followers now. I have heard nothing but good reviews on them I was on the Grams web page and they have the followers and springs together. Can you buy just followers or do they work only on their springs? Chriss, Where do you get Bevan stuff? Do they have their own page? I would like to check them out. I love Dawson stuff but those plastic inserts don't look like they will perform well. I was thinking that the spring will get cought on them sooner or later. Thanks, Dave
  10. I jsut got an E-mail back from Dawson. They tell me that they use the Para base pads for STI mags to gain the extra capacity. They said to make sure to use the plastic insert and it will work fine. We shall see. I had a hard time getting their springs on to my followers. I think I will order followers from Grams. They look like they would work well. Has anyone used them? Dave
  11. I just got my Dawson base pads in for my STI. When I first got the STI several weeks ago I noticed that the mags for the STI looked like my Para mags at the base of them. Just for kicks I tried putting my Dawson base pads on them. They fit but the bottom of the base pads sat at an angle compared to the STI base pad. About 8 to 10 degrees off. I figured this would not function well and ordered new ones for my STI. I got them today and they are the same thing as my Para bases. Did they send me the correct thing? Does the spring work well compressing against the angled base pad? I like the Dawson base pads. They go on and off so easily and they look great. But my first concern in function. Dave
  12. I just got the Arredondo thumb rest for my STI. I ordered the one that fits over the C-more serendipity. I did not realize this when I ordered it but it blocks the removal of the slide stop. It does not make sense to me that I would have to remove the thumb rest every time I break my gun down. Am I doing something wrong? Is my C-more mounted to far back? Is there any other thumb rest that would work better? I love the Dawson mount for the C-more. The problem is what do I do with the holes in the other side of my frame? If I did go with the Dawson sight mount with the build in thumb rest, can I get my C-more modified to fit on it or do I buy a new one? Thanks Dave
  13. I have a pocket pro and it does show splits. You have to hold the split button and scroll through the shots. For personal use it works fine and is priced right. Dave
  14. I see that there is tons of information on this topic if you take the time to look for it. Thanks for all the info I ordered some ESS glasses with prescription inserts. They are inexpensive and worth giving them a try. If that does not work well I will spring the money for some Oakley's Thanks Dave
  15. I wear prescription grasses. I try to buy wrap around grasses locally but they tell me that they cannot curve the lenses that much. Is there any place on line that can make glasses suitable for shooting but with my prescription? Thanks Dave
