  1. Plan B.- Ship the thing to Clark's for a "do over".
  2. I had a spring kit installed and the internals polished in my 610 just before I got transferred out of OH. Now after a few months, I have had a chance to put this gun through some serious shooting sessions. So.....the trigger on my 610 is light and smooth as glass. But...you guessed it...ignition is not 100%. I am guessing it is only about 80%. Very disappointing. I am currently using federal magnum primers and the same standard .40 load I shoot in my limited gun. (Para) I really like the idea of one load for both guns. That is why I went 610 instead of 625. Would the extended firing pin offered by Cylinder & Slide fix the ignition problem? Or is going back to a heavier trigger and/or specialized reloads the way to go? Also, any recommendations on a good S&W 'smith in the Houston area would be appreciated. Thanks in advance! Rick
  3. + 1 on 335. Wear your sunglasses or a welding hood.
  4. This all sounds too good to be true. You better plan to just stay in "Condition Yellow" from now on. "I was just cleaning my gun when it accidently went off and ...." Congratulations! After 26 years together, I am not too worried about myself. I think watching the local morning news in Houston probably had a lot more to do with it.
  5. Moving to Houston has its benefits! My wife and I just completed our TX CHL requirements over the weekend. A light went off for my bride when she was practicing for her qualification. She decided she likes to shoot! After 26 years together and really, really trying to get her serious about shooting, she gets it! She is shooting my tricked out G-17 with a passion...really leaning into it and shooting like she means it. Her CHL qualification was in the 85% range after only a couple range trips. Last night she even curled up with Jeff Cooper's " Principles of Self Defense" before bed. Hopefully, that first match is not far away....
  6. I chose Line-X for a Ranger i had. (since sold) It was excellent. I preferred the smoother texture over the competition.
  7. The roller handle is much easier on my wrist.
  8. Confirmed. Every round giving me this problem is from Winchester.
  9. I just went through 2000 .40 S&W from Brassman.com Chuck, This was the best 1X fired brass I have found since you had that stuff that had been fired in SIGs a few years back. Rick
  10. You folks battling the "corn meal"..... what seating depth (OAL) are you running? I backed down to 1.2" in order to get more consistent feeding. I am thinking this OAL along with a fairly stout crimp may allow a more complete burn. This is how I overcame this problem when loading some Western powder a few years ago. Your thoughts?
  11. Did you notice how low on the berm the first shot was? Missed the plate and the guy by several feet. Then they tried AGAIN? Whew!
  12. I am currently using a U die, but these problems predate that. same problems with my Dillon resizer. The brass in question is from brand new virgin brass to 1X fired to shot until it split brass.
  13. This is a frequently occuring problem with my .40 toolhead. No similar problems with my other 9-10 toolheads. This does not occur with every piece of brass, but enough to really get the tendonitis flared up in my elbow after 4-500 rounds. It sticks so bad in some cases that I really have to push on the handle to break it loose. (sometimes I have to actually use two hands) I have resorted to coating the bell area of the funnel with a light coat of case lube. This helps for maybe 50 rounds or so. I have also tried lightly polishing the funnel with a dremel. I am currently loading good quality "once fired" brass from Brassman.com. This problem is even worse with new virgin Starline brass. Regardless, all the brass is very clean and in good shape. I have made numerous funnel adjustments to where the case has no bell to where the bell looks like a bucket. Cases still stick no matter where it is set. Short of buying a replacement funnel or going to factory ammo, I am out of ideas.
  14. I have been using a U die in my 550 for about a month. At first, I crushed a lot of cases too. I monkeyed around with the cartridge spring ( paper clip looking thing), bent it up to where it touches the empty case about 2/3 rds of the way up, and loosened the set screw to adjust the tension to where the case lined up properly with the sizing die. Finally got it right. Last night I loaded 500 rounds of 40, crushed maybe two cases.
  15. Here is my gear list. You are probably not going to be happy with that .17, especially if you are going to fields with a lot of hunting pressure. The PDs get really skittish. IMHO...A 22-250 is the minimum you want as a primary gun. At least one back up rifle is a good idea. Heavy PD shooting is a torture test for sure. A broken firing pin can ruin your week. Also....A revolver with birdshot is handy if the rattlesnakes are thick.
  16. I frequently ask the competitor questions before LAMR. I want to be out of the way of the competitor and keep everybody safe. IE: Which way they intend to turn when a start calls for facing up range. I then move the crowd behind us to the opposite side of the bay, out of the possible line of fire in case of a ND on the turn and draw. If the competitor does not like it...I say tough toenails. It is my job to keep the COF, the competitor, and spectators safe. ROing for ~15 years, I have only has one azzhat in Detroit (DSC) give me any grief. He was not the even shooter, just a spectator who took offense at being asked to step to one side. Otherwise, reasonable people realize you are just there to help out. It sure isn't those big RO paychecks.
  17. Been using the U die on my 550 & 40 S&W for about a month. For me, it is slower because you need to take better care in getting the empty case lined up. I do crush a few cases. However, IMHO, it is still better than having to cull out loaded rounds that got by me with buldged cases. Pulling bullets is a drag.
  18. I have been noticing this situation with my 550. I will pay closer attention to see if its specific to any one brand of brass.
  19. In my Schumann barrelled Para the other day, Berry 180 grain bullet and Federal magnum primers, 75 deg F and sunny...... 5 grains WST = 1021.53 average FPS, 183.8 PF 5.5 grains WST= 1033.90 average FPS, 186.1 PF Plan to drop the charge down and try it again tomorrow.
  20. I have a large tacklebox in my trunk with every spare Para part and gunsmith tool I can cram in it. I also take a spare gun of some sort too in case I can't fix the thing between stages.
  21. These shows are great events. I have been to a couple..Pittsburgh and Charlotte. Missed this year. Anybody know where they are looking to hold it in 2007?
  22. I've heard that the 180 grain version makes it with room to spare. I ran some 180 grain WWB last month through my Schuemann equipted Para. 75 DegF and sunny, my chrono showed an average velocity of 1021.7 FPS/ 183.9 PF. Rick
  23. WST shoots a lot softer than Bullseye. It has been my only powder for .45 ACP for probably 15 years. I am switching to WST in my .40 as well.
  24. Believe it or not I am finally on my last pound of Winchester Super Light....I really stocked up when Winchester discontinued it way back when. Now I am tired of waiting on some N320 to become available. Got to thinking about the Winchester Super Target I have been using as my favorite in .45 ACP for years. So.... IMHO...WST ... (1) Is reasonably priced and relatively easy to find. (2) Burns in a reasonably clean manner. (3) Consistent PF over different temps and weather. (4) Makes 165 PF easily on ~5 grains. So...Why not WST? I see hardly anything on print for WST in print. What gives?
