  1. I ordered 500 of these a while back and after reloading the last of my plated bullets I did some testing to see what my seating depth/COL was going to be with this truncated cone profile. I discovered that I seem to have an issue with the .357 diameter in both barrels I tried it in. The case will not plunk and spin unless the bullet shoulder is completely inside the case mouth. That puts the max COL at 1.075 and means the shoulder of the bullet is not inside the free bore at all. Eggleston has load data on the site and they list the COL at 1.100, although they have a listing of 1.06 for some discontinued 125gr bullets. The barrels are from a 9mm M&P and a Para Pro Custom P18.9. I would expect the Para to be finicky, it's supposed to be a "match grade" barrel. I didn't expect to see the same issue with the M&P barrel. Eggleston recommends the .357 size and they say it chambers reliably in all their test pistols. I slugged the Para barrel and it's .355 but I don't know of a way to check the diameter of the free bore area. I don't know if it's supposed to bigger than the bore grooves or not. I've been using RMR plated round nose 115's loaded at 1.15 COL. They are .355 diameter. They have been insanely accurate in the Para with 4.8 gr's of HP38. The plan with the Egglestons was to use Prima V and it looks like it'll be around 3.9gr to make PF from what I can tell from others posted loads. So a little less powder in the case. I tried sanding off some of the coating on the shoulder to reduce the diameter. It ended up at .354 and the shoulder does go in the free bore area in the Para and the COL is 1.14 and in the M&P it would spin at 1.16 At some point in the future I was planning on trying some 135gr bullets for the Para and I'm concerned I may not be able to do that without having someone tweak the barrel. I'd rather not touch this barrel. Btw, yes I know I should have at least slugged the barrel first. Then I would have started with .356 diameter and at least narrowed down my options if they didn't fit. So should I care about the diameter of the free bore area and that I will have to load these Eggleston bullets so short? I'm thinking these would not be safe and I'd prefer to load longer even if they are. Should I try some .356 coated (possibly a round nose profile) and see if those will load longer? Thanks in advance.
  2. I use these: DAA Alpha Rail System
  3. If anyone is looking for the Caldwell it's $78 at the link I posted above. It's NOT the premium kit though. Basic kit comes with the sunscreens, the cable and a storage bag.
  4. R1, I have the Caldwell. Not the premium kit. I shoot outside in Florida so I highly doubt I'll ever need a light kit. Also didn't need the tripod. It's the first Chrono I've owned and I like it a lot. Very easy to setup and the app is really useful. I've borrowed a Pro Chrono before and I like the Caldwell much more.
  5. It's 8/32, mine don't measure 3/4" though, more like 1/2". I bought mine at a local Ace Hardware in the hardware section where they have knobs for electronics, etc.
  6. Not Flash but I'm pretty sure of the answer if you are talking about the 140's. The mags are these 9 & 40 SPS mags and the TTI base pads are the 7G. I have the SPS mags for both 9 and 40, I have not purchased the base pads yet. Here is a link to a post from Flash about the mags and extensions: http://forums.brianenos.com/index.php?/topic/218948-p1640-pro-custom-magazine-questions/&do=findComment&comment=2536087 Pete also posted further down in the thread with pics.
  7. Hmm, looks like they changed the price. Nevermind. Still like the Chrono though and the app is cool.
  8. I just got the Caldwell and I like it. Haven't used it at the range yet but it does connect to my phone (Droid Maxx) and seems to work ok. I hunted around for pricing a bit and got it for $76.39 shipped at this place: Caldwell Ballistic Precision Chronograph They are listed on Slickguns so I took a chance and ordered. I ordered it Tuesday and got it today. Didn't get any shipment info until Thursday morning so I was a bit worried but then it progressed quickly from there. Other places have it for less but with shipping it ends up being at least $10 more.
  9. See if any of your local places will order it for you the next time they order powder. I'm a bit lucky that there is a local store that basically lets us put in requests along with his stock order and when he gets to 48 lbs he orders it all. Usually doesn't take more than 3-4 weeks. It's great for him because he knows it's sold.
  10. I've used Win Autocomp, because I bought some during the shortage. I didn't do anything with a Chrono but using 5.7 grains and 180 grain RMR plated bullets got me pretty good accuracy. Recoil wasn't bad and it's cleaner than Winchester factory ammo. That was out of a Para Pro Custom 16.40. I'll be going to coated bullets and Prima SV next. I wouldn't hesitate to use Autocomp though. Also tested it for 9mm and found a load more accurate than HP38. In fact it was more accurate in both calibers than HP38, but only at one specific weight.
  11. Depends on what you want to do with them. There's at least 2 or 3 threads here on what works and what doesn't. MBX and SPS work, STI's work in some guns.
  12. Yep, but I can't think of what it's called at the moment. I'll update this when I remember it. My brother in law is a PGA teaching professional and it's something he teaches to his students. I believe Lanny Bassham also teaches this. Some NFL field goal kickers use it as well. The premise is that you pick a phrase to repeat to yourself that has absolutely nothing to do with what you are about to do. Something that's short and easy to remember. Like "The rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain". It can be anything, although it should be something that invokes good or neutral feelings. You go through your setup and think about what you want to do. After you holster starting repeating your phrase. Where I think you want to get to is the state you are in when you stick your keys in your ignition. It's a complex movement but I'd bet most of us can do it with our eyes closed. Most certainly aren't thinking about that particular act when they do it. Having said that, I don't do it. I am thinking about my first shot and only my first shot. Although I'm not thinking about it in any complex way. I don't seem to have any issue with excessive thinking right before or during a stage or during dry fire. Before and after my brain never shuts off. I've decided to embrace it, because I can't make it stop. I remembered what it's called. It's called a clear key. The idea is to get your conscious mind thinking about something else so that your subconscious mind can perform the action. Google "Carey Mumford of Clearkey Golf" and there is a pdf that explains some of it. There is also a video on youtube entitled "clear key lesson".
  13. Flash74, I thought you were using the 7G basepads on the SPS mags.
  14. You can also run SPS mags for the Mac or the Para. Not sure if they work with the RIA or not.
  15. I am running the BladeTech STI Eagle holster for mine. The area around the trigger guard is sized for a 2011, not a 1911. Seems to work fine. I thought I remembered seeing at one point that BladeTech actually makes one for a Para double stack. I could be wrong.
  16. The PIG gloves and golf gloves fit tight around your hand and fingers yet stretch when you move or close your hands. Mechanix Wear gloves don't do that. They are a bit bulky and tend to fold up and make bulges. Golf gloves should be really tight when new because they stretch out. I don't need to cut the trigger finger on either my golf or PIG gloves. Try some synthetic leather golf gloves, they will work better than leather for this application. The hard part will be finding one for your right hand, assuming you want them for both hands. I know of two other people who wear PIG gloves, even for just pistol matches. I tend to only wear mine for rifle and shotgun but I have worn them shooting a pistol and it didn't seem to hinder me in any way. I am going to try my golf gloves on a hot barrel soon and see how it works. They are much thinner than the PIG gloves.
  17. I have some Pig Gloves and they are awesome. They fit around your hand really well, no wrinkles, etc. I like the idea of the baseball glove though, I'll have to take a look at them. If I just need to wear gloves because of weather, yes we shoot in the rain in Florida, I wear golf gloves. I doubt they'd help against a hot barrel though.
  18. Good question. I had my holster (teklok) and my mag pouches on it. I'm using the DAA Rail System attachments which go on just like the racer pouches. They don't take up much space at all.
  19. Thanks for the reply. For some reason I was under the impression the overlap would be about 4 inches. I've never really paid any attention to that when I was watching a match.
  20. I got mine a couple days ago. They fit the racer pouches just fine. The spacer plate snaps into place for bullets out or for left handed people. You pull the spacer out and just mount it directly to the pouch for bullets forward. I guess I'll need a pan head screw for bullets out. If I try to use the counter sunk screw the adjustment wheel hits it and won't allow me to put the screw in for the wheel. Taking them on and off is not bad. They are a little tight right now. At the moment it seems to take a bit more effort than an ELS clip. I imagine they'll wear in over time. I'm pretty pleased with them so far. If anyone is wondering they are 2 1/4" tall, 1 1/2" wide and just under 3/4" thick.
  21. How much overlap is normal on a belt? I just got a Shooters Connection belt that I think is way too big. It has 10 inches of overlap. I emailed Shooters Connection and they said the belts are designed to have 8 inches of overlap. Even that seems like too much. That would be from the middle of my back to almost my hip.
  22. http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=232477 Scroll down to post #18 for links, don't know anyone who has them yet.
  23. I've got some on the way as well, along with a Shooters Connection belt and some DAA Racers. Still not sure what I'm going to do about a holster attachment. Right now I think I'll just use what I have, a Tek Lok and the DOH BladeTech that came with my holster. Eventually I'll get into 3Gun and all the other gear that requires. For now I'm just going to shoot some action steel and USPSA.
  24. Depends on who you talk too. I have both the P18.9 and the P16.40 as well as a stainless Expert. All my Para's have run great. They are very accurate as well. If you are looking for a gun to compete with the Para is imho a good starting point. You can run it the way it is or modify it. There is a small issue with mags. You can't get the stock Para mags so you'll have to either run STI, SVI, SPS or MBX mags. Some guns run the STI mags fine, some don't. Those are the least expensive option. There are a couple threads on what mags and combinations work well. If you can't find them, PM me. As for prices, I think you should be able to get a 16.40 for $899 or less on GunBroker. I bought mine there for $849. I bought my 9mm gun from CDNN for $899.
