Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I too shoot rifles right handed and pistols left handed. I too am right eye dominant. I actually find being a lefty as an advantage. Heres why. As long as you have an ambi safety all else is cake. I manipulate the slide release with my trigger finger(no need to alter my grip im just moving one finger) I manipulate the mag release with the middle finger, middle knuckle of my shooting hand(again no need to overly alter grip) when the gun is turned to do a reload(even slightly) to facilitate reloads no shift in grip is needed just apply pressure with the knuckle to the mag release and out she comes. slap in a new mag turn the gun level and shoot.
  2. I am a lefty and I had a kimber that was ejecting brass to such an angle (after a trip to a second rate smith) it was cutting my thumb. I solved the problem by tuning the ejector for a more upward ejection pattern.
  3. First off I am not super speed shooter but I try like h*ll. I know I was having the same issue with losing the front sight. How I overcame it was to shoot doubles SLOWLY and really pay attention to the front sight, making sure to concentrate on it then speed up a little almost to the point where it hard to follow then back off a bit, do it over and over again and allow your brain to adjust to how fast things are happening and soon enough the front sight will not get away from you no matter how fast you go. Just like a boxers reflexes, First few years in the gym you get pounded a bit but as reaction times adjust and your brain starts moving quicker and reacting faster punches look slow.
  4. i know about IDPA and the ss guiderod. But I got the guiderod and elite 2 hammer from a member of another forum for 30bucks shipped so i got em. I will use the factory rod for idpa
  5. i sher gun set up for uspsa or idpa? how did those things alter the handling (ie, trigger, slide speed, recoil impulse etc)
  6. OK. I have a beretta 92fs I am going to shoot in IDPA and am thinking to start shooting USPSA. what weight springs and what loads are successful. ie low reciol make power factor, fast slide reciprocation etc. is there a particular recoil spring, hammer spring, and trigger spring that makes a difference? I also have done a trigger job on t he factory components and am going to be installing a elite 2 hammer for faster locktime.
  7. it was done with a buddy and a stopwatch. I dont own an actual timer.
  8. Than ks for the recommendation Ive actually been toying with the idea of the standard length dust cover so I can play both games. It is esentially and STI eagle then right? As far as end result.
  9. I am going to be building it. If I were going to do anything with a comp i would send that off. I have built quite a few and do all my own work with the exception of milling and refinishing. I think it looks like itll be a limited .40 im gonna be building up , I already have a 9mm 1911 and .38 super and a slew of .45s just no .40. Im thinking this is gonna be a good one to go with/'
  10. are you serious??? I guess it seems as if i should be going faster. I practice the crap out of my reloads, it fun to do when I dont have my son and I dont watch too much tv at all. I spend a few hours a night practicing trigger control and reloading, I retain the mag using my back pocket. When I put the funnel on my glock and practice speedloads I can get a new mag in the gun before the old one in on the floor. I am at about 2.5seconds on the beretta using retention and havent shot it in idpa because i dont want it to hinder me but my tradeoff is shooting a .40 g35 VS. a 9mm beretta that i shoot a little better just not as fast on reloads.
  11. How fast is fast. dropping mag, retaining it, grabbing new mag, inserting it, and firing the shot. how fast is fast. I timed myself the other day and I am a sharpshooter in ssp i have it down to about 1.75-2 seconds. I know uspsa guys are doing 1 second and less, I can do a uspsa speedload in about 1 second flat. But ........
  12. Ok I have a guy willing to sell me a 2011 frame in california and am looking to basically build an edge. My only conflict is should I go 9mm, .38 super, or .40??? Please help witht he decision. I want as much feedback as I can get on recoil characteristics, advantages, disadvantages etc. The only changes will be a tri top slide cause I like the blocky look and feel. also since I am building it should I do 2 top ends and what parts do you all recommend. Initially I was thinking all sti but I have a triglide in a kimber and I love it so I will probably go that route on the 2011. I dont shoot uspsa but want to get going and i want to at least be in the running you know. I do shoot IDPA. Another idea I have is to build a standard upper in either 9mm or .40 and another comped upper in .38 super, or .38 supercomp. am open to suggestions.
  13. ive already installed the d spring and did a fluff n buff to smooth out the DA pull a bit but looking for a detailed tutorial on a full house trigger job.
  14. Ok I recently got a holster for my 92 and am going to shoot it in IDPA and want to start shooting uspsa. What spring weigiht do you recommend and are there any parts / springs you recommend to slick up the trigger? Is there a trigger job detailed online? What bullet weight recommendations do you all have? I am new to the forum but on other forums for a long time. Ive been shooting for over 10 yrs and just got into IDPA a year ago. Ive shot 3 matches unclassified and placed first in all 3 then shot a classifier and Sharpshooter is where I landed with a G35. Ive shot 3 matches as a sharpshooter and have 2 first place and one second place finishes. I really want to shoot another classifier to get to expert or even master so I can really test myself against the field. Ive never shot my beretta in competition currently these are what i run CDP Kimber series 1 classic custom SSP Glock g35 ESP Springfield 9mm 1911 SSR Smith 686 4in (never shot it in comp but want to start)
