  1. Slide glide is the best grease, Gun butter is my favorite oil. I use gun butter when its colder. it seem to really work good and stays put with out slowing the gun down. dcalvert
  2. No problems what so ever with Scharch brass in my JP. Loaded and shot 4K good stuff. Of the batches I bought the brass was 50% LC and 50% WC I loaded it sorted like that, and it very accurate and 100% in my rifle dcalvert
  3. The Hornady Lock and Load Ultra sonic cleaner made specifically for cleaning brass may be a good alternate. No Dust, Quiet only down side is it does not clean large batch's of brass. About 60 .223 cases. $100 bucks from midway. dcalvert
  4. Brownells has a devise called a screw check'r that is cheap work well for identifing screws. I got one of these shortly after starting to play with open and started breaking scope mount screws. They also have some of the small gun screws and small sized tap and dies witch also come in handy for these repairs. heres a link http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/cid=0/k=SCREW+PITCH/t=P/ksubmit=y/Products/All/search=SCREW_PITCH dcalvert
  5. I have had good luck with scharch brass loading on a 650. Excellent quality. Have loaded and shot several thousand out of my JP. Thats all thats I ever shoot out of it. 1/2 moa and have not had ever had one jam. I use a JP case gauge and Dillon carbide die good bullets and powder. dcalvert
  6. You might want to check the accuracy of the plated bullet beyond 25 yards, The same plated bullet in my Single Stack and Limited guns would not group very well like 8" Montana gold or Remington JHP 180 jhp group 2" @ 45yards. Good lead bullets shoot well also. dcalvert
  7. I have loaded & Shot over 50,000 Master Blaster .40 180TC molys in my limited guns. The 1050 is set up with a EGW modified U die and a Lee FCD. No problems. Very accurate Load. dcalvert
  8. 90% of my 40 long ammo that do not make the gauge will still run reliably in my STI limited gun. I throw them in a box and take them out during a practice session when a malfunction is not a big deal. You will be surprised how few will stop the gun. Besides it is good to practice clearing the gun when one does. dcalvert
  9. Simply Dillon can not be beat!! Traded up from 650's to 1050's They make better than factory ammo in a hurry. Customer service is by far the best there is. dcalvert
  10. I had Matt Mclearn weld up the frame and slide on an open gun that was misfit the original gunsmith when built. Any way that gun is a drill and very reliable and that was about 15,000 rounds ago. We refinished the gun after it was properly fit by Matt in hard chrome. The gun is now a keeper. dcalvert
  11. The Round topped Bianchi targets resemble tombstones. I have seen them marked "RIP" help one's imagination. Scoring the X, 10,8,and 5 ring could be a challage. dcalvert
  12. +1 on Phoenix living here for 30 years lots of shooting related stores & Ipsc shooting. Although Central Texas (Austin) really impressed me. While traveling there for work the gun shops where really well stocked and the gun shows where over the top. You should try to check out both areas if you have time while in the country. dcalvert

  14. +1 on Marty at Accuracy Speaks. Check out TGO's comments on his web page about his work. the one he did for me is awesome and it come with a life time guarantee. dcalvert
  15. Moving with a loaded handgun in any direction is a skill set that is required in our sport. If any of the gun handling skills are done incorrectly the out come could be deadly, which is why we train to perfect these methods. Check out some of the video's of the ladies French champion (Laetitia) executing these skills safely. Here is a link showing some really great gun handling including retreating up range. She has many other video's on u-tube that are worth watching showing off her talent One needs to perfect this skills dry firing before trying them in a match! dcalvert
  16. I use a penetrating theadlocker after I have dies have been adjusted. A few drops and forget about them coming loose. The name of the product I use is called "After Lock" You can just put it on all your already adjusted tool heads and not have to take them apart to install conventional lock tight. dcalvert
  17. I used to shoot Zero's in all my guns to the tune of 100K until they started to get very hard to get! Have been shooting Montana gold 124g Jhp in the shorty and 121 Ifp in the 5" gun. Seem more accurate and much easier to get. Great service as well! Don't plan on going back to Zero's dcalvert
  18. I have been using 17# ISMI main springs with Koening hammers, M2I firing pins with winchester primers with over 100,000 rounds and have never had any failures due to light strikes. I change main springs in my guns once a year as insurance but have not had one go bad. dcalvert
  19. Caspian is as good as it gets. But only as good as the gunsmith that builds it. You might want to consider a call to Matt McLearn who owns M2I. He is building a lot of Caspians these days. His guns are amazing they run run run. He is also a world champian, national champian and Grand Master that will honesly tell you the pros and cons of the different platforms. Great guy to deal with. http://www.mattmclearn.com/ If I were laying down for a new limited gun it absolutely would be gunsmith built no matter what platform it was built on. dcalvert
  20. Although I do not have one I have shot one that my friend owns and there is another one in our club that is a absolute drill. Trip has a stellar reputation and is was one of the original Partners in STI. (the "T") I also herd that his turn around is excellent and he is very approachable in regards to communications with his customers I do not think that you could go wrong by having him build you a gun. dcalvert
  21. Thanks Benny, I will take you up on that some time. It is very nice! dcalvert
  22. They said just before the drawing it was $3,500 Nice work Benny not just the gun but the help for the Juniors!!! dcalvert
  23. I won the gun!!! Thank you everyone for the nice comments. Thanks especially to Benny Hill for the awesome build, Caspian, and Virgil Tripp for very generously donating time parts and something that is hard to find these day QUALITY. It is a very nice SS .45 and I could not believe that my name was called. I had bought 1 ticket Saturday morning from at the stat shack @ 6:15 am (a very lucky one). Great match, great people, great sport DVC Dale
