Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Thanks for your advice I'll start with replacing the spring with a stiffer one. There aren't any visible cracks or much wear. If the spring isn't enough, I'll move on to the mag release itself.
  2. Thanks. Yeah, I inspected the mag release, but it didn't look nearly as bad as yours.. I'm thinking that a combo of a slightly worn mag release and a weak spring finally was too much or something. I have a new mag release somewhere, I will try it and see. I have also tried to apply (a lot) of pressure on the top of the mag while installed in the frame, but it doesn't give way. However, it's difficult to reproduce the movements from a shot, maybe there are other things going on thant I can't see.
  3. Dear all, I could use some advice. Problem: Magazines have started dropping out of my STI 2011. Happens approx. every 30th shot or so. Happens across any of my 10 tubes, of different make (STI, Rescomp and SPS). Happens on the first shot, or the last, or anything in between, without any pattern whatsoever. Problem started during a major match, and I was baffled Gun worked flawlessly for 2 years before this. Before this particular match, I sanded just a little bit of the magazine channel of the gun, because I had a couple of magazines that wouldn't always drop freely. I sanded just a little bit (front & back), and sprayed with silicone spray. That's all I did. I use an elongated magazine release button, and my teammates suspected that I pressed the button unintentionally, so I took it off, leaving just a very small button. Magazines still drop, and I didn't really believe this to be the reason in the first place. I don't grip my hand around the mag release. I'm confused The mechanism seems all OK, and I did not do any real changes to the gun or my shooting style. Has anyone experienced something similar? All advice is much appreciated. I should mention that the mag release spring is of standard strength, which I find to be a little on the weak side. I am going to order a stiffer spring.
  4. OK, so I have the large casefeeder plate (just checked) and the rectangular funnel. I guess I'll just try replacing one at a time to see what helps, even though more people seem to have had luck with the large plate than the small. One other thing is that my casefeeder has always run the same speed, it doesn't make a difference if I choose "high" or "low". Might have something to do with the current here? We have 240 volt in Europe.
  5. Thank you, guys. Rigger: I have fixed the top of the casefeeder to the roof with a 25mm screw, so the casefeeder isn't moving at all. Rolex, Duane, Seth: I thought i had the large shell plate, but I'm not absolutely sure. Will check as soon as I'm home from work How do I recognise the large versus the small? I don't think I have more than this one plate which is installed. Dillon: I do indeed have the rectangular funnel. I will send you an email, thanks Apart from all that, I will also try to clean and polish the inside of the funnel, but I don't really think that is the problem. The problem has been constant since the machine was new, 10 years ago. I forgot to mention that I have had cases being thrown upside down on occation too, so It doesn't seem to be an issue of friction, more a mechanical issue if you understand.
  6. Hi all, I've searched the xl650 thread, but couldn't find a fix for this specifically: I reload only .40. I've reloaded about 60.000 rounds on this machine over the last 10 years. Every 300 round or so, the cases will jam like illustrated. It has done so from the start. Not a big thing, but a bit annoying. My workbench is rock solid, and I've tried the white plastic funnel thingy (I think it's originally intended for 9mm). The white funnel makes the cases stick between the funnel and the casewheel, so that's not a fix. I appologise if this has been covered elsewhere, I could not find it. Regards, Rob
  7. Do you intentionally create malfunctions to be able to do clearing drills, or do you often actually have malfunctions? I do a lot of drills myself, and shoot 52 weeks a year, but I never do clearing drills. I don't see a reason to, I make sure my gun always work. Maybe this isn't the answer you're looking for, but maybe the clearing drill problem is a symptom, rather than the illness. If the same thing happened to me, I would probably stop in confusion :-) Rob
  8. + 1 I can't believe that most shooters aren't using this advantage. It feels like cheating. PS: did you mean to say right eye dominant? I am - 1,5 as well, and remove the contact on my dominant ene.
  9. Removing the contact lens on my dominant eye, enabling me to have a front sight focus and target focus/peripherical vision at the same time. Enabled me to reach a new plateau.
  10. I see what you mean. We did this during training once, with myself as the test subject. We could see difference between the runs, but nothing that could be used as statistical proof. Which is where you employ what in statistics is called "a-priori perception" which is common sence :-) We decided that the time loss from the mag change certainly was less than 2/10th of a second, and probably close to 1/10th. The difference comes from not being able to move the arms/torso as desired when you accellerate out of the box. Slight drift: Footwork makes a big difference. Move one foot away from the direction of box B, to gain angle and momentum when you accellerate.
  11. I'm very interested in this myself, and would love to see it. This that I found on youtube probably isn't what you're looking for, Flex, but it gives some idea about the kinetics at work: Some kind of footage like this, with iron sights, and with a shooter that employs good recoil management woud be most interesting to study.
  12. OK, but I guess I didn't understand how the laser would attach at exactly the same place every time. Does it go in the bore, on the side of the gun, or what.
  13. Does anyone know how this device works? http://www.dawsonprecision.com/ProductDeta...0939-1222979514 I can read the description, and it seems very fine, but I don't understand how it's supposed to be accurate?
  14. Yup, this is my world, too. I can call the shots pretty good, because I see what the sight picture is right at the split second before the shot breaks. As a matter of fact, my self II will choose to do a follow up shot immediately if the last shot was a D or a miss. This is obviously good. But I'm not able to track the sights during recoil. The best way for me to describe it, is that I don't process enough "frames per second" to actually follow the movement. Rather, the sights go blurry, until they start to settle again. Since splits ofte happen at 0.15 or faster, its still pretty good, but not quite there, in terms of tracking the sights trough the recoil. I wish I could play back what I see, and compare to other shooters. Since that's not going to be possible any time soon, I would be happy to hear other shooters describe what they actually see.
