  1. Starting in SC is a perfectly viable idea for the reasons you mentioned. It is often recommended as a starting point for those just getting into action pistol shooting. IDPA may be a gentler introduction to shooting and moving than USPSA but has some irritating tickytacky rules that USPSA does not. I'd shoot SC for a while and then hit up either an IDPA or USPSA match.
  2. One way to eliminate this and similar problems is to sort for similar headstamps. Then when you do a run adjust dies and flaring as necessary for that particular headstamp. For some that is OCD. For me it is just the way I've always done it. At this point all my practice brass is basically Blazer,WIN,RP,FC,GLM,S&B,CBC and maybe a few others. Some people find some of that list problematic. However when dies are set appropriately then even the headstamps people complain about such as CBC and S&B are easily reloaded.
  3. Are the Alpha Foxtrot S15 magazines proprietary or are they using somebody else's mags? Thanks.
  4. I think if I could, standing and unsupported, keep 10 shots inside the 10-ring of a B8 at 20 yards I'd be pretty happy. I might be able to do that from a rest. It's been way too long since I practiced at any significant distance. Thanks for the incentive.
  5. Yeah, you guys are taking my suggestion way too seriously. I was only trying to point out that if you want to change human behavior it helps if you give them an incentive to change. Then I threw out a couple of perhaps outrageous suggestions about how to do that. Neither were well though out. Just throwing sh!t at the wall. (And the only way my suggestion would incentivize Production is with respect to the overall which many seem concerned with.) Move along, nothing to see here. Let's talk about the real world; not my off the wall stream of consciousness thought process.
  6. You think they are fun. I think they are fun. But if no one else but you and I are shooting them then how much fun are we having. Maybe that's fun for you. For me not so much. I hope you continue to have fun. Good luck. Edited to add: I'm just throwing sh!t at the wall to see if anything sticks. I don't actually expect anything to change as far as the rules are concerned. We both know that is not going to happen no matter how sparse the iron sight participation turns out to be.
  7. That is the way I see it. I think I posted something similar in this or some other similar thread.
  8. I believe this will happen and I also don't think there is anything that can be done about it and I doubt if anything should be done about it. Tech marches forward. Nobody is carrying around an English broadsword on their hip. Nobody uses old Wang word processors just for fun. I'm already talking to people who don't understand why anyone in their right mind would choose iron sights over optics. The toothpaste is out of the tube. I think the only way to preserve a healthy level of competition in an iron sight division is to provide some kind of positive reward for shooting it. Whether that is more ammo capacity, automatic major power factor scoring regardless of ammo used, etc. I don't know what would be a realistic reward that would be acceptable by the majority.
  9. If you did that then you might as well rename USPSA as US1911and2011SA as that is what the majority will end up shooting. I don't think it matters whether or not the 1911/2011 "advantage" is real or just perceived. Either way people are going to want to get that real or perceived advantage. There would be a lot of striker fired guns on the market.
  10. Winchester bulk white box has a less than stellar reputation.
  11. Good point. I'm aware of the new rules but haven't locked them into my brain yet.
  12. If the question is which is the highest performance division in IDPA then it would be CO and in that sense it is IDPA's equivalent of Open which is USPSA's highest performance division. If the question is which USPSA division matches up most closely in actual equipment rules with IDPA CO then it would be LO.
  13. My OP was probably misleading as I'm not considering an actual build. More detail: I was talking to a friend yesterday about the 10mm options on the market, Glock 20/40, Sig X10, RIA 1911's, etc. and the 2011 subject came up. We were curious if there was anything inherent in the 2011 platform that would provide additional durability above and beyond a typical 1911 based gun and possibly approaching Glock levels of durability.
  14. I'm curious what your durability expectations would be if you built a 2011 chambered in 10mm and used 10mm loaded up to it's potential.
  15. I'm confused... if your scale has 0.1 grain resolution then how can you tell that: "The difference can be +0.02 gr between full reserve and half reserve."
  16. Wild ass guess 'cuz I wasn't shooting USPSA back then so... The original "Limited" division name may have come from the fact that the division was "limited" with respect to "open". That probably made sense at the time before we had such a thing as "production" because it was certainly much more "unlimited" with respect to Prod. "Limited Optics" may have come about because the division is primarily derived from "Limited". Having said that I'm not sure why the actual name of a division is all that big a deal but I admit some of them are misleading especially to a new competitor.
  17. I'd love to hear about it. I'm thinking about one of those also.
  18. Absolutely. It's not worth the worry if you go to majors.
  19. Another alternative is to take a hair off the rear corner of the feed lips. That is where the interference with the gauge will be. It sounds drastic but I've done it on any number of 320 mags at this point. You only need to kiss them with a file.
  20. Yeah, you might as well get used to the idea that you will be fiddling with the primer system more than once during your reloading career. Whether it is just for routine maintenance/clean/lube or debugging some operational issue. It is not uncommon to have to pull the complete primer assembly for some reason or another. It may look intimidating at first glance but with that video you should be good Adjusting that primer operating lever can be a bit finicky but has to be done on occasion.
  21. In what way does USPSA support a "category" (i.e. division) and why should we care? Hypothetical: Let's say there were 15 divisions. And then let's say that at most matches the same 5 divisions had zero or a very limited number of entries. In what way does that hurt you or me or USPSA? Why do I care that USPSA would have 5 divisions that hardly anybody shoots? Personally I couldn't care less. If someone enters one of those divisions I would just chuckle and think that they were either a new shooter or someone looking for a participation trophy. Sort of like L10 is today. Is that really that big a deal?
  22. I have noticed in the past that they have different part numbers but I don't have them handy. It might work if the collet can tighten enough to hold it in place while decapping. I don't know if that is possible.

    MBX 24 rnd follower

I picked up two of the Rune spring/follower sets. Tried with several different 17 round mags using several TTI and several Henning pads. The 24th round is challenging to insert. Glad I have a Maglula or maybe I couldn't do it. They fail to run as 24+1 more often than not. They work fine as 23+1 but that isn't the point.
  24. No kidding... really? (I'm not complaining.)
